And how many tvs even support 12 bit? We are having trouble getting enough 10 bit s***!

Maybe? It's not that it will show a 1billion colors, but that it has that available. Again, having all those colors has a huge effect on killing color banding. You should check out the difference in Forza Horizon 3 with and without HDR. It's significant. Not to mention peak brightness. That also affects the expression of said color.

We are getting into diminishing return territory, but I still think there is a meaningful difference. Stepping up to HDR is very noticeable when it's not there. Watching movies in the theater is pretty brutal now. The color and clarity can't match what I have at home.
My set is 12 bit with 14 bit color processing 1840 peak nits brightness and does all the HDR formats HDR 10,Dolby Vision,Technicolor and HLG. With the color and brightness making the closest to achieving what the studios intended hence studios using the sets when encoding movies.

what you haven't posted so there hasn't been any exaggerated or fake news.

"on paper" the very best HDR solution
Edit:Here ya go...

The main difference between Dolby Vision and HDR10 though, is the colour depth and brightness the content and equipment is capable of achieving. Dolby Vision content is mastered in up to 12-bit colour depth, compared to 10-bit of HDR10 (which is where HDR10 gets its name from). You may be wondering, what difference could 12-bit over 10-bit possibly make? Well, 12-bit colour depth gives access to over 68 billion colours, compared to just 1 billion with 10-bit. This means the colours you see from Dolby Vision films and on compatible TVs are going to be far more accurate and as the director intended.

I want the uhdbr of the Scorpio to support it as Sony dropped the ball in this area and if it gets dv...it will be very appealing to me.

.

DV was available when HDR was included in all of the previous consoles, HDR 10 is what they've all included so far and that's the smart move because it doesn't cost them extra to do it, you have to pay for DV licensing. I would guess the next round of consoles will include it simply because there will be more time for the dust to settle and a standard HDR format to be decided on as well as more sets out there capable of displaying 12bit color. Right now there are 2 HDR options, one is free while the other costs anyone who uses it to pay a fee. It would be cool if they were to include in scorpio for those who have a set that can take advantage of it, I'm just not sure it's worth the additional cost for MS when they are likely already paying a decent amount extra for the higher bandwidth 12GB of memory among other things and most sets currently in people's homes can't even take advantage of DV anyway.

Guys, you can take that fake news elsewhere this is a Project Scorpio thread.
Dolby Vision is a UHD standard, well an optional standard, anyway. Sure, it's 12 bit, but that's just the start of it. It also carries dynamic meta data, which transparently talks to your set, gets your specs, and then tells your UHD TV how to properly display each scene the way it is intended to look. No more "this is too dark" or "this is too bright". Basically, Dolby has stepped up to the plate and made a standard UHD fool-proof gamma and color standard across all supporting UHD TV models. While some people don't like the proprietary-ness of Dolby stepping in, I think it's good that somebody has.

What does this have to do with Scorpio? Well, it won't need a proprietary chip. That's where all of this started. It shouldn't have been dragged this far, but that is not my fault. I said that it wouldn't need a chip, and now Dolby has spoken up about a software method for consoles. So again, if Microsoft decides to support Dolby Vision HDR, they can... and if they do, they can surely do it across Xbox one S, as well. There is nothing stopping them from adding support to either, provided they are ok with the licensing fees.

Geez, how much that one run you?

So who believes August 17th is the retail release date?

I've been wondering about the release date...does anyone have a guess? I'm hoping it's earlier, like around August. Historically I can't find any consistency for Xbox hardware release dates.

Looks like Reddit is speculating, too:

r/xboxone
Possibly Scorpio Release Before August (Possibly June) This Year - According To Description of Shadow Of War Gameplay

It reads "Available beginning August 22, 2017 on Xbox One, Project Scorpio, Windows 10 PC (Windows Store and Steam), PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®4 Pro. Pre-order now: http://www.shadowofwar.com" Notice project SCORPIO noted there. I really think they will do a big announcement at E3 releasing Scorpio shortly after. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS JUST SPECULATION.

I don't buy August but soon after. They will push that in what they feel like will give them most momentum heading into the holiday season. August seems a bit early to me but September is soon after and that's usually the first window into into it. Who knows really.

I just want a Crimson Skies sequel as a Scorpio launch game. I would be beyond tearful and happy.

Microsoft is sitting on such a plethora of exclusives that they could revive any one of them and reel people in.

Crimson Skies, MechAssault, etc. Let's go back to the forgotten gems and make them great again.

#makeoldxboxgamesgreatagain.

Do eett Microsoft. Do eett!!

I dont think many of their older games would generate much revenue from gamers today. Sure, back then they were fun - today, things have changed a great deal since the original Xbox. Maybe reboots and sole for $20 a pop but I can't remember one game that would work in todays market. I was even thinking PGR but even then FH3 took that crown. I dunno

I get what you're saying.

I just think they need more quality games. Combine the old with the new. Bring in the nostalgia and also forge new frontiers. Forza, Gears, Halo, are great, but when people describe the 'Xbox' those are really the only games that come to mind.
Having more wouldn't hurt.

yeah, but then you remember all the idiots that keep asking for a reboot of Azurik.

It should be a case of mandatory euthanasia for people that liked that game. I prefer to think of it as a sympathy killing.

Do you think I enjoy having to bully people that like that stuff?

Edit: but I'd totally welcome a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning game. Stupid name for it (so forgettable. Why does the first game in a series need a double barrel name? If it's for disambiguation, pick something else. )

I'm all for hdr but for the cost of dolby vs hdr10 I don't see many devs jumping on board...

Crimson Skies and Mech Assault would be awesome! those would be exclusives I'd be interested in for sure and not just remastered versions of the original games but brand new ones.

I'm only posting this vid because this is at least the third 'source' saying there has been a Scorpio spec increase. Total fanboy but this is for discussion purposes only!
