PS4 voice commands limited at launch.

Bolding the title seems like an unnecessary dramatization of the severity of the topic in question. I'll say that much. But that's all I can see personally.

Check my post history and see how many Sony TROLL posts or threads I've created. You won't find any. f*** sakes, if this was something that was a constant, I could see some of the back lash on it, but as it stands (and how it remains) the whole judgement crap was completely unwarranted. Some of the mates here are a bit too sensitive.
You say this after repeatedly, constantly calling people "fanboy" this and that in every other post? Look at your post history, every few posts you're insulting other people. Maybe you mellowed out the last few days but seriously.

The site automatically [bolds] every thread. Are you speaking on my using the caps? I just capped the thread title. Not a big deal....But again, whateve.....

Nor can you tell a video to pause.

Well that kinda sucks.

Hopefully it's not indicative of a sloppy / bad API for voice commands.. because I can't imagine why they'd be missing such basic voice commands otherwise..

Not a showstopper as I didn't really even contemplate voice commands on PS4, just another weird "don't get it" from Sony. Your API should simply be a way to associate words to events/actions/methods whatever your programming paradigm uses to represent "doing something in response to something else."

If they can sort it all out PS4 may end up being my main media device alongside potentially being my main 3rd party gaming console next gen.. but I don't really have confidence in the former.. Sony had some good "pluses" for it's media apps last gen (Netflix got 1080p first, 5.1 sound first, etc.) but the overall console experience wasn't as smooth so I still to this day use my Xbox 360 as my main media streamer (when I'm not using my HTPC.)

"Xbox Pause" is said in my house more than most phrases, lol.

People need to stop being whiny about trolling. If this is a troll thread, it's among the more subtle ones. It sounds like Sony will update, but the quantity/quality of those updates probably depend on how much of an effect voice commands have on the business and Sony's business specifically.

I really don't think this will get an update. Well not in an enhancing way anyhow. After launch, Sony will quietly disable and remove this feature, and move the resources onto something more productive for gaming. This feature serves literally no purpose in its current incarnation. I am speculating, but I don't think Sony is capable of overhauling their operating system enough to give this relevance.

If that be the case then that really sucks. I like using voice for Netflix, Movies, Music and gaming. Plus its only 60$. Can't beat the price for sure...

Truth of it, I never thought it would do well with games, but I at least thought it would be useful for the other apps. Again, for that price and those specific functions you can't beat it.

Sigh.. in recent interviews they've expressly said they're going to keep adding more voice/gesture support to the OS.

Read the playstation thread, it's constantly being updated with news. Your "speculation" was wrong before you started typing it.

Unless they are complete idiots adding voice support to any given command should be one line of code.

I expect full support within videos for instance very quickly.

Why is it that Sony's consoles always have some limit at launch and years after that? I don't get it.

Am I the only mofo who just wants to control his system with the damn controller? I don't want to yell at my console.

Nope, you're not the only one. I personally hope Sony doesn't spend one second on development for the sh*tty ass camera or voice commands.

While I can see your POV, I think Sony will still put some money towards development of it. It would be interesting to them be very different machines in capabilities, but what if for some reason Kinect takes off and sees Wii like success? sure it's unlikely but let's just say what if for now... would Sony be willing to be completely behind if that were to happen? I am sure it's something they have thought about.

Sonys behind in the camera department anyhow. But at least give me the ability to control my other entertainment with my voice. "Pause", "Play", "Rewind", "Fast Forward", "Stop" Thats all I want. Oh, and "Faster, Next List, Previous List, Show more", lol. Yeah, that....thats it.

It's just my personal opinion. I have no use for it and personally I don't know anyone who does. IMO....Kinect 1 was a failed experiment. No doubt some money will go towards development, but I think Sony did the right thing by not making the camera and voice command technology a main focal point of their new machine. In fact, their non-inclusion of the camera was what ultimately sent my money in their direction. This coming from someone who has three Xbox 360's in my house.

Nah, just give me a remote control. I'm old school. In fact, my wife walked in on me talking to the Kinect one night and gave me a look of "WTF?". Ha ha...needless to say, I didn't get laid that night. Man-card revoked.

Because voice controls are so non manly.

I've never seen a stranger form of insecurity than gamers reactions to voice/motion control.

Thats easy. Find a show she likes to watch like Desperate housewives or some s***, and watch it with her on Netflix. When you gotta go to the head or take a smoke break, just say "Xbox Pause". THAT'LL GET-AH!! Trust me!

Just felt a little uncomfortable when the wife walks in and sees her 36 year old, 6'4", 215 lbs beast of a husband waving his arms and talking to the tv. Maybe it's a generation thing....just not my cup of tea, but I have no problem with those who get some enjoyment out of it.

Well I'm 35 and also 6'4" and over 200 pounds..

Motion gaming never made me feel insecure.. ton of people my age I knew got Wii's for instance and would throw Wii Sports on at parties and whatnot.

The concept of being insecure about it just seems so backwards.. motion gaming and voice controls are more acceptable to the general public than dual-analog controllers, which would be considered way nerdier.. there's this weird subset of brotarded gamers who seem to make a huge deal out of it, but I don't know any other demographic that would give a crap.

I can respect anyone not wanting to personally use these features, but why wish for the rest of us to be denied access to features that I personally think are cool?

Like I said earlier, I would take these features over AR games that you may mess around with for five minutes then never touch again.

By the way I described PS4 missing a video pause voice feature as "not a show stopper" and none of you miscreants liked my post.

:(

Well on the x360 I generally don't pause, I just "xbox rewind faster faster faster ... play" Does the PS4 voice commands support this?

Yeah. I have no shame talking to my tv. My wife loves using the Kinect and pausing or stopping or fast forwarding or some thing rather. We play Wreckateer, bowling and darts at times as well. I have no doubts she'll love next gen. Motion cameras are very useful once you get over the simplicity of them.

XBoxNeo : I took the mention of no video pause feature as probably meaning no video controls at all.. I can't imagine why pause of all things would be missing, lol. Use pause all the time since we watch a lot of stuff on our 360 and then one of us gets up to grab a drink or something.

Mcmasters : My fiance uses the Kinect voice controls more than me, and she's pretty much the only one whose gotten extensive motion gaming in on it... I've had fun with motion gaming but I'm not usually in the mood for it.
