PS5 Pro - 2024?

Will there be games worth buying it for? If they can't even release any must buy exclusives now, why do they think people need to upgrade again?

I guess we will see. If they can do better raytracing with 60 fps in games and at least a 1440p resolution in new games, I think it'll be worth it for me.

Same here, I think it has a chance of being a little more successful than the Pro was for PS4 when it comes to the percentage of overall sales for the PlayStation 5 family of consoles simply because it sounds like this is basically meant to give us slightly better than quality mode settings at 60fps with better ray tracing and I'm sure better performance for PSVR2 owners as well (all 3 of them)

I think in the console space there has been more talk of 60fps this gen than the last two generations so more people may be interested in that. I'll buy one I'm sure but at the end of the day the base PS5 is still going to be the biggest seller by far.

Price will be its biggest factor/challenge (production) with the current state of the world economy. If the gap is a hundred bucks more it will probably sell as well as the og pro did.

My guess is if they advertise 8k it’ll be for movies, but for games it’ll be 8k checkerboard

I still don't think 8K will be a focus in the marketing, that just doesn't make much sense. I think the person that tweeted about an 8K performance mode probably misinterpreted something or just made it up.

True, but if they can do it by any mode, even if it’s only for movies or streaming then, they’ll put a logo on the box with a tiny * that leads you to an even tinier line in the bundle manual that says it’s only for that

The PS5 box already has "8K" on it, Series X box also talks about 8K HDR, neither machine actually outputs anything in 8K right now as far as I know though, I don't even think that feature is available right now for either machine. There is one native 8K PS5 game (6K on series x) but its output is super sampled down to 4K even though the actual internal resolution is native 8K.

They need to master 4K first before saying anything about 8K.

I get how 8K is the new "4K" marketing thing but this is very disingenuous for the layman who does not understand this type of stuff.

I highly doubt that's going to be the focus of a Pro console, I was surprised that DF spent so long talking about that.

PS5 literally has "8K" on the box since launch and they haven't had an 8K output option.

Yeah I said that in another post, the Series X has 8K HDR on it's box as well and it hasn't had an 8K output game yet either. The closest thing was that indie game that's running on PS5 at an internal native resolution of 8K but is super sampled down to 4K output.

The Series X doesn't say 8K on the box to my knowledge, it says "4K" and "120fps". I could be wrong, I'll check my box at some point.

I’m staring at the front of the box atm, only shows the 4k logo with 120 FPS right below it…I can’t take a pic but here’s some screen caps

For those of you who are already lucky enough to own a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll undoubtedly be aware that, officially speaking, the packing does indicate that the existing consoles are 8K ready

Funny enough, this dev gave credit to the PS5's increased clocks and memory setup as to how they got the game to render at 8K.

The devs explained to Digital Foundry that their engine is now able to stretch further thanks to the PS5’s faster GPU and memory.

Shin'en tells us that in the case of its engine, the increase to clock frequencies and the difference in memory set-up makes the difference. Beyond this, rather than just porting the PS4 version to PS5, Shin'en rewrote the engine to take advantage of PS5's low-level graphics APIs.

Wait, where on the Xbox packaging is it? I’m too lazy to go back to my closet and bring it or the ps5 box down, im pretty sure the Ps5 box has both 4k and 8k logos on it

Go to 1:28

Well this one’s right on the thumbnail

*edit to add time below

Or go to 1:30

Someone with a box check. That's what the article person said lol

Yeah the PS5 blasts it right on the front of the box highlighted in gold. Pretty shady.

It says 8K HDR on it, it doesn't have the big 8K logo though. Here's a pic I found online, I checked my dusty old box too just to make sure it's there and it is. It's right under 4K 120fps which again isn't something you see on xbox series x very often (or at all) either lol. Both companies are a bit loose with they say the console will do. They are capable of these things, it doesn't mean we'll get to see them much if at all.

Oh nice, and true, but everything on that list have lil asterisk 😂

Let's go!

"
Although the Pro’s specs were difficult to pin down, admittingly due to my lack of technological prowess, sources have stated that Trinity with have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.

As for the consoles performance targets and as to be expected, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing."

"Whether or not a PlayStation 5 Pro console is desired enough in the current market remains to be seen, but as of writing, the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and is targeting a November 2024 release date."
