PS5 Pro - 2024?

Maybe showcase the game but not the game as a showcase as a reason to why it exist. Again I feel if and when it does release, ps5p, it’ll take years and at least two games designed for it to take advantage of what can be done
I forget where I read but the PS5 games will be easy to boost apparently as the Pro was designed with that in mind

Software or hardware based? If the hardware alone strays too much from what the current soc is then it may be software base, unlike the Ps4p which was hardware based, like apples m2/m3 pro chips

Not sure , we will see from the leaks or details when revealed

Anybody else think the lack of PS5 Pro info from the Insomniac leak is odd. Not even a mention of it anywhere.

Yeah, I'm still not sold on the fact that this even exists. Although Tom Henderson is a pretty good source, he's not perfect. It is hard to tell if he's just repeating other stuff he's heard.

I really just don't see a huge demand for more power. The X1/PS4 consoles were horribly underpowered and a mid-gen refresh was needed. Now, the PS5 and XSX are fine for most. Most of us felt that our X1/PS4s were lacking, while I feel like this gen is a great bang for the buck value.

100% agree with that.

I also think about all the supply issues. The state of software. Only just just seem to be moving away from last gen. Sales.

If you're going to post stuff at least let it be plausible. DLSS on a PS5? Is he aware that DLSS is a Nvidia software solution that up to date has never run on AMD hardware? So now Nvidia is going to magically let it run on an AMD powered PS5? The rest of the specs he listed are pie in the sky garbage that sounds good to the non tech oriented but absolutely foolish to anyone else.

I agree he used the DLSS word wrongly. It is rumoured that it may use their own upscaling technique.

The other rumoured specs are part of the ongoing speculation from tech heads after Tom revealed some insiders info from his sources

here’s why I think there won’t be a ps5 pro.

• Price. It’s gonna be pricy, for what they may want to do internally, I doubt it’ll be more than 700 dollars USD. They aren’t budging on the current ones, they raised it for the digital.

• Timing. They said they’re in the later end of the PS cycle. It’s to late for them to capture any momentum and build upon it.

• Stagnation. All platforms are hurting, they’re reducing sales projections. And it seems like they may not have the hype for this year. Well maybe Nintendo might night a new fire with everyone.

There’s more, but I’m waiting on food. So discuss and call me a troll. #freetibet

The last time we had mid-gen refreshes was the Xbox One and PS4, which at launch were horribly underpowered. That mid-gen upgrade was a big one. I remember I couldn't wait to upgrade back then.

This time, I think the XSX and PS5 are fine performance wise. What's a supposed PS5.5 going to do? Run a little higher res and/or framerate? I think these consoles are still very good bang for the buck. Could we improve? Sure, but how much?

I was thinking about what the actual next gen can do to wow us next time. I think 8k is a long way off. Basically maybe higher framerates and maybe the same drives, only with the actual space we need built in?

I just don't see the demand. Personally, I'm the kind of gamer who runs out to get the latest and greatest, and I don't even really see the point.

I'm skeptical from a production standpoint. Assuming that they're getting their chips manufactured by TSMC, the cost of manufacturing went up by 6%. So if Sony want to keep their profit margins stable, the Pro is going to have to fly off the shelves at near launch fervor at a higher price than the base console. Tall order and while not impossible, still a tall order.

Totally see new catchphrases like "machine learning" and " AI upscaling " in the near future while they promote their own method of upscaling to 4K with better fidelity and performance modes like 60 and 120fps modes.

That feels like more of a ps6 feature. Feels too soon to do, the tech is out there but not many devs are using it or aren’t familiar with it.

Price will be a huge factor, doubt they’ll want to sell at a loss or break even.

If it’s a thing, I doubt they’d want to release it this year. But it could be a positive to sell it this year with the switch 2 being pushed back.

Shoot, if both consoles get officially announced this year there’s gonna be people who’d rather wait for the switch 2 even if it’s just a beefier switch.

But then there’s games, with Sonys recent announcement of no new big games how would they market it without anything to showcase what it can do?

Maybe a new astrobot game, as it’s more of a mini game tech demo, but, I guess, in this case to showcase what, more puddles and more options for what has raytracing?

There is rumour of a new Astrobot game coming this year so I totally see them bundling it with the Pro for late fall 2024.

As to see what game would benefit , perhaps we would see the introduction of Concord their brand new FPS?

Also they could market the Pro with GTA 6 promotional info , I bet that would sell a bunch. They just have to say , play the best console version of GTA 6 coming out in 2025 on the PS5 Pro.
