Report: Watch Dogs targeting 1080p on PS4, but what about Xbox One?

Ubisoft reveals resolution for PlayStation 4 version and says, "We are utilizing Xbox One to it its full capabilities…"

In a new video interview, Ubisoft cinematics animation lead Lars Bonde told PC Games that the PlayStation 4 version of Watch Dogs is targeting 1080p, but stopped short of confirming resolution details for the Xbox One iteration.

In the YouTube video--which has since been set to private but was seen by CVG--Bonde says even though there may be visual performance differences between the different versions of the game, the core gameplay will be the same regardless of what console you play on.

"The first thing I want to make clear is that, at its core, it's the same experience on current-gen and next-gen consoles. You get the same gameplay out of it," he said.

"Of course there are nuances to it," he added. "We are utilizing Xbox One to its full capabilities and the same with PS4, of course, so I know that, as far as to my knowledge, on PS4 it will run in full HD."

This tallies with unconfirmed reports from earlier this year, which claimed that Watch Dogs on PS4 would run in 1080p while the Xbox One version would output in something less. Notably, the video in question here is the same video that Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin retweeted a link to yesterday.

Nobody is trying to act like resolution has a major impact on how good a game is. But it does impact how nice a game can look, which factors into the end user experience.

For those of us who own both consoles information like this can be helpful. If you can't read about it without flipping out, I got some advice for you:

1. Don't read these types of threads.
2. Don't take negative information about the Xbox so personally.

I'm getting this on PC regardless....but I wouldn't be surprised if this were true.
Speaking of the PC version....they released a video 2 days ago showing (the actual PC version with specific Nvidia technologies present). Looks tasty!
Don't see a downgrade at all....at least for the PC version.

Don't know about CoD...but dude, seriously.....BF4 is better on PS4 both visually and performance wise.

hat being said, both the PS4 and Xbox One stall significantly in their frame rates when encountering these sequences. The PS4 is a lot better, losing only a few frames every now and then, but still suffers significantly when playing online.

Even with the massively dialled down internal resolution on Microsoft's platform, it's telling that these frame-rate drops remain consistent across both sets of hardware, indicating the bottleneck may be in the utilisation their multi-core Jaguar CPUs. By comparison, the PS4 fares a little better based on our experiences;

Isn't it good to know which version of the game has the better resolution, framerate, online play, etc so that people who own multiple consoles can make an informed purchasing decision? So what if the thread creator has a bias? Nobody has said anything out of line or ridiculous in this thread.

Actually having separate thread for visuals/res/fps is also not a bad idea, at least keep the official thread free from people who do not care about Visual differences, & more on gameplay.
