Report: Watch Dogs targeting 1080p on PS4, but what about Xbox One?

X1 doesn't need to be more powerful than the PS4, all it has to do is hit 1080p with 30-60 fps on a regular basis. I've never seen a console gen peak during the half-year after launch so it's completely possible. Maybe the PS4 will be capable to 90-120fps by that time but 1080p will be the resolution peak this gen. Both apu's are far to weak to output anything close to 4k on any game that matters.

You do realize that Activision (a third party company) asked MS if they could use the kinect reserve for COD Ghosts right?

Anyway, the ~8% kinect reserve alongside DirectX 12 will help but we more than likely won't see Xbox One games using both together until 2016.

We should see the first batch of Xbox One games using just the ~8% kinect reserve late this year or early 2015. Should help to get those locked 30 FPS, 900p games to locked 30 FPS, 1080p. We'll see though.

Which also mean, we can kill our dream of seeing 3rd party developers using kinect /(the gesture part) in core games.

In the end, its Kinect 1.0 all over again, useful only in Kinect specific games, which continue to have people questioning why making it mandatory. Why not also release a voice reciever only version for X1. People who Skype or like to play kinect games can buy the full kinect.

That's not how it works.

When you can unlock more performance, you will try to push more details in the game. Assuming the performance difference ratio is similar to today, you will still see 720v/1080, 900/1080 like we have now, but the games will look better.

Or maybe it will be 1080/1080, but the superior version will have more bells & whistles.

Only when performance of 2 consoles are so close (within 20%), that its not meaningful (as in cost/time effective) to make one version better, do we see parity.

Not necessarily. There are a decent amount of unique core gamer oriented kinect games coming from indie/smaller developers soon. On top of that, there are features that can be done outside of gameplay itself in core games that can make use of the camera so that the game itself doesn't have to suffer. For example, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see kinect facial scanning and motion capture for create-a-player modes in games soon. That feature wouldn't have to impact the game itself.

Games built from the ground up using the complete SDK and utilising DirectX12 will be substantially better than what we've seen so far. There is, no doubt, a learning curve for developers to master the architecture and developers will get hang of it because they want to sell their games on the platform. There are already launch games that didn't have full DX12 that show--if you do it right--you can do it well.

Honestly, I would leave DX12 out the convo for now. We do not really know how big an impact it will have. The SDK on the other hand, has multiple devs confirming its superiority over the current one, and specifically stated how it makes high resolutions easier to hit.

I mean AAA games.

Yap, I expect most kinect enabled games to be from Indies, who are more adventurous. :)

Like Brad Pitt?

Anyway, I think while they usually post negative, or comment negative things, they are not aggressive or get personal.

So for me its not a big deal. I think their comments (or anyone) warrant no meaningful discussion, then I let it be.

Life's too short be be upset over small things :)

No. Not like MW. He actually discusses games.

Im talking about others that dont really need to be named but do nothing but post negative articles like it's their full time job to do so.

There's one former poster who lurks here or is using an alias that I converse with outside the forum. Nice guy. But he is still trying to convince me (outside of this forum) that the Xbox One sucks. Even though he knows I own it, like it and don't really care about the fact that my PS4 has faster ram and more shaders.

The whole console was built around it. The graphics card was designed for it. It's like putting a supercharger on a stock car. See you down the road.

PC gamer says: lol, how cute, "targeting" 1080p.

PC gamer says: I'm "targeting" 1440p, solid 60fps. Might have to enable v-sync to keep it @ 60 otherwise PC gamer runs the risk of screen tearing.

Oh wait, g-sync, disregard PC Gamer's second musing.

Not a great analogy. Not only do stock cars vary massively, but so do supercharger sizes.

Also, you say you know how big an impact it will, great, but.....the key to this hardware, or so it seems, isn;t DX12 at all but Tiling and the esram. I saw nothing of tiling in the DX12 presentation, and this is an aspect more likely associated with the SDK than DX12.

An appropriate analogy referencing speed and performance. I think of mechanical devices holistically, and DX12 gives the XB1 a quantum leap from current graphic performance, not with hidden hardware assets, the much maligned "secret sauce" but a logical and natural increase in performance through software inhancement.

Yeah, but can it 1080p?

J/k, I'm also interested to see the final product and enhancements from these much touted improvements people have been talking about. But not sure when that will be.

Depends on the developer learning how to use the assets, and Microsoft requiring them to do what they know the system is capable of doing. I'd rather have a multi-plat late and done right, than on time and half-assed. I don't ever plan paying full price for any sub-par port.

yet the speed and performance can be dramatically different depending on the individual parts.

Yes, logical and natural increase in performance though inevitable software enhancement, but, we do not know how big an increase in performance.

You don't know; speak for yourself. It's the missing piece that makes the console whole, and explains all the architectural decisions, down to that huge fan. Of course, I don't expect you to believe anything. I do expect you will know, soon enough.

We should really change the whole forum's name from 'Union' to: Every Xbox One Game That Comes Out We're Going To Post Some Lame Thread About Gay Ass Resolution Like It Even Really Matters And People Will Never Get Over The Fact That Xbox One Has Inferior Hardware In It Than PS4 Because Microsoft Only Cares About Making The Machine It Wants To Make Instead Of What Gamers Really Want.

You know, we could call it: "X.O.G.T.C.O.W.G.T.P.S.L.T.A.G.A.R.L.I.E.R.M.A.P.W.N.G.O.T.F.T.X.O.H.I.H.I.I.T.P.B.M.O.C.A.M.T.M.I.W.T.M.I.O.W.G.R.W Forums"....for short. I propose the idea.

Or just change the forum headers:

Xbox Discussion (for gamers who care about quality exclusives and solid multiplats)
PS Discussion (for gamers who care about resolution, indie games and 1080p PS3 remakes)
Nintendo Discussion
Other (console/PC war discussion)

I almost don't want to come to the Xbox Forums every time I see a new title on IGN saying something about some new title having lower resolution. It just boggles me that it"s such headline news around here all the time. It's like saying:

Box A:
Has this much processing & this much RAM (and a certain type of it)

Box B:
Has slightly less processing & RAM (and lower quality RAM)

...each game coming out is going to have a slightly different resolution on each box? No way! You're kidding me. Oh, you mean they couldn't get the resolution up on Box B because the processing isn't there? I thought processing was supposed to be MAGICAL! You mean there's a limit to what each machine can do? Earth-shattering! Hey, do you think we can get Watch Dogs running at 1080p on Sega Dreamcast? We can't, why not, I don't understand! Let's make five million topics about it now each & every single time a new game comes out.

Blah, it's so tired. Microsoft is a software company. They built an average box to deliver software, apps, & premium services to the whole family through a monopolistic closed, cloud network to try to control the industry. If they didn't do that, they wouldn't have included the Kinect for easy family purchases & simply made the machine have better specs than PS4. They only care about gaming as the backburner now though in an otherwise family centric digital distribution service.

You're leaving out a lot of Sony remakes or HD collections Jay.

I personally love repackaged games.

Oh me too I don't get the fanboys saying "er er Sony only releases remakes" when everyone does it, Tomb Raider is my favorite game this gen so far and its a remake.

I hope the Halo 2 remake is real. That would be pretty freaking sweet. Fable remake looked nice. But I'm just waiting and hoping that the X1 version redeems the series.

How about just stop the whining and deal with it like adults? Just acknowledge it and move on instead of trying to make this into some Xbox vs. PS4 games thing again. Jeez, it's like every time news comes out about the Xbox version might be inferior, some Xbox fans start pulling out the usual "we got better exclusives, better multiplats, the best games even though we're also remaking popular games from the past (but we don't count it since Xbox games are the best trololol) to make themselves feel better. Talk about insecurity.

I would buy a Halo 2 remake, probably still the best time I've had playing online with friends.

Exactly. It's like PS2 vs. Xbox all over again. But not even that big of a gap imo. Things turned out pretty well for the PS2 if I remember correctly.

Yes, exactly. Both sides will have great exclusives. Just pick the side that has games that cater more to you. Sony's always appealed more to me, the fact that it also has the better multiplats and better hardware this gen is just bonus. Last gen, I've bought the PS3 first even though the 360 had better multiplatforms at the time. Then I got the 360 for the JRPG's and Gears. This gen, I'm going PS4 again first. The fact it's more powerful is just bonus. If the Xbox One has games coming out that I like, I'd probably get it as well but who knows when that'll be.

These threads wouldn't be a big deal if people wouldn't make them such a big deal. If people didn't react so strongly to it -- if there wasn't such uproar and drama around it every time -- these threads would eventually get ignored and fade away. All the protest and frustration around them pretty much guarantees that they will continue.
