Reports of XBox One hardware issues

I am starting to have a serious issue with my X1. It is emitting some sort of energy waves, in either the optical or audio spectrum, or both at the same time. They are disrupting my sleep patterns. These energy waves seem to have lingering effects. I miss them when they are not there.

I've had some issues. I have to unplug my console every time I turn it on again to get Game Party Chat to be able to be heard. That's frustrating.

Also, a number of times it will say there's an error retrieving the Friends or the like.

Then there's the time I put BF4 in six different times before it recognized there was a disc in, I had to unplug there as well. There's a lot of launching games & going back to the Home screen as well or just getting sent there, even in single player games...crashing to Home screen.

If issues do arise, I heard you can do a "Factory Reset" & sometimes the console resets itself & works again. (my buddy couldn't play Forza or NBA2k at all, after three days of frustration he did a factory reset & he could play them)

I finally called about my console not noticing the disks in the drive and they said it was the disk drive problem. My exchange is on the way. You may want to exchange it before the drive totally goes bad.

I have the same problem for the party chat. I have to sign-out and sign-in and go back in the party and then my friends can hear me.

Sorry to hear that man, MS have really stepped up though with the exchange policy and are pretty quick!

Che?

I seem to be having problems with my NAT. I've never had strict NAT before and it was showing as open the other day. I switched my console off at the mains and when I turned it back on it now says open. Is this normal?

Most of what people seem to be experiencing are software bugs that will be patched at some point. Frustrating all the same. If you're having continued problems, seems like the factory reset is probably your best bet. I've only had 3 issues (bugs):
  • Dash slowdown (looks like jitter). You can do the "unplug reset" or in my case, I force quit all open games and that fixed it. Seems to be a resource issue with too many things open....though the games/apps themselves run fine.
  • Party Chat issues. Could not connect one time, had to reboot console for both parties to be able to connect. Invites seem to disappear if you are in a party (some games throw you in a party automagically without you realizing it....not sure if this is related to how smart match works?)
  • Games crashing to dash (NFS: Rivals twice; BF4 once)
For those that have actual hardware problems, at least you get a free game :p

With the games crashing to dash, it only seems to happen with EA games :shocker:

The party issues drive me up the wall, but I have no problem waiting for an update as I know its a focus for them. I assume factory reset means you need to reinstall your games...which takes forever..

not sure... Ordered it yesterday.. Can post when I receive it...

I have the power brick in my credenza currently... So don't really notice the sound.

but normally have the power brick hiding under the credenza when its not making the sound..

I don't mind waiting on it though...
I tried to do the power brick exchange but they won't do an advance just for the power brick. Argh! I'm going try to see if they sell me one than I will return the old one back

It's pretty picky about things sometimes. One thing to note is there are two more ports you need to open for Xbox Live now in your router. I ended up just opening those ports for all three devices I have plugged in because I could never get it to consistently stay open either.

Here's that list of ports for Xbox One at the top of the page:

Good advice, man. I can't believe I didn't think of simply signing in/out again. I'm pretty sure I tried almost everything before & unplugging was the only thing that worked. I'll try again with the sign in thing though, maybe that's a working temporary solution.

All I know is you want it to be open so you lucked out it seems.

Has anyone had issues with the X1 exiting out of a game and going back to the dash? Whenever my son and I are playing Lego Marvel Superheroes, it will do exactly that. I think it may be game specific since it only happens with Lego Marvel.

Just wondering if anyone's had similar experiences.

None here. I've only played DR3, KI, and Kinect Rivals so far though.

Had that happen to me once a few days ago I shut the console entirely off and everything is working fine now

Is anyone having an issue with the controller unsyncing from the xbox. I never had this issue with the 360 but everyday I play it happens multiple times. Yesterday I had to take the batteries out and put them back into the controller to get it to reset.

Yes. Same here. Been happening to others also. For 15 seconds yesterday it actually disconnected/connected about 20 times. Very unfortunate for my squad who were riding in my heli. All I heard was. WTF Man????? Good news it seems to be a common issue so very good chance will be fixed.

My wife is getting me an XO for Christmas but I may tell her to hold off for a bit. These problems sort of freak me out. The definitely need to fix the drive before I get my own, not to mention some of the Kinect issues. I'm reading too many of these.

Found a little something here. This makes me feel a wee bit better that changes are happening. Have a look: Differences between first batch and second batch XO systems.

Got my exchanged xb1 in like two days. The nice thing is that all my progress transferred to my new xb1. I was really annoyed since I had two rrods last gen, but this time the replacement process was a non-issue.

So first picture only difference is bigger sticker.my day one edition has demos that I can download as well. Probably going to be waiting quite awhile for a different version of X1. Only a small % of people have issues and the other ones can be fixed in patches

Well again, things may change now with Tomb Raider coming in Jan. I was serious about that...

My FIFA 14 won't load now for some reason? Its the day one code download and it just keeps kicking me to the dash.

Crap. I should have waited a few weeks! lol

Have you or anyone heard/read if it's system thing or a controller issue? I haven't contacted MS yet to see what they say and if they want me to send it in.

Anyone had any issues with their HDMI port on the One, a couple of times now my screen is flickering black lines through it and I check the cable and it's plugged in I have to reseat it to fix the issue, it does not seem that the port clutches the cable, it's fairly easy to pull out, anyone else having this?

I'm not using the one that came with the Xbox One but I haven't had any issues.

Yeah that's a really good point I'm not using the one that came with it either, I would ask if that's a factor but looks like it isn't.

Well, it's actually happened to me more this week. Dead Rising 3 it's happened 3 times the last 2 days. So, not an EA issue but likely an OS issue. Not sure on the factory reset but I imagine you do have to reinstall your games. Since you can now do other things while it's installing, not a huge deal IMO. I've just read a few places the factory reset helping folks with issues.

Well, it still could be that cable even if it's not the one that came with it. Try a different cable and see if the situation improves. No issues here BTW and TV is watched through the X1 every day since launch.

Oh, and also, I did have the controller disconnect thing but only one time (happened to be in a heated part of an MP game though). Thought it was batteries but I had just replaced them a few days earlier. This is over around 30 hours of gaming since launch. I imagine it's an OS thing and not a controller thing as my controller has worked flawlessly otherwise.

How are folks battery life doing (those using AA)? I'm on my second pair and the first only lasted about 20 hours or so (this is about the same as the 360). I was under the impression the X1 controllers lasted much longer due to Kinect turning them off in a more timely manner when not actively in use.
