Surprised we didn't really get an update on things today. Then again....if it's all about that review event, it won't be until near launch.
It's a bit more dramatic these days IMO.. everything on the internet is more dramatic.
It's not just fanboys anymore.. it's a huge percentage of gamers just acting unreasonable even if it isn't under the guise of fanboyism.
Some of it is more of the same.. but IMO there's definitely something different about it all. The entire world is a bit different than it was 8 years ago.
Oh, it was worse than stated. At that event, can't remember which one it was, it was so long ago, Sony came unaware, had their kiosk set up their prototype on display, ready to play, then Nintendo yanked the rug out from under them. If you ever thought the Eastern concept of "Face" was a thing of the past, one look at the Sony reps faces that day would have erased that notion right quick. Humiliated doesn't even begin to describe it. If some of them had had tantos they would have slit their bellies. Understand, Sony top managment never intended to build a console on their own, only as a collaborative effort with their strategic partner. The upper tier of managment considered video game consoles "toys" and Sony didn't make toys. That all changed when it became a matter of Honor. After that monumental slight, they were without hesitation or doubt, resolute and determined, like an arrow that springs from the bow. The rest is history.Good read. I knew about the Nintendo/Sony/Phillips debacle in vague terms but didn't know the whole "going back to 1988 ownership" deal and such.
War. War never changes.I think it's mostly the web/social media stuff, which seems to allow BS and hate to spread more quickly. I also think it has something to do with the fact that the Xbox and PS consoles are launching in close proximity. That's never happened before. These two big competitors have always been separated by a year, before this. But this round, they are only a week apart, so the sense of competition is keener, and the fanboy bickering is amplified.

The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower. Fanboys fight over which console will run 1080p/60fps.

Doesn't have the same effect if it's not being spoken by Ron PerlmanWar. War never changes.

It used to be you marketed your product by making it cool and showing off its values. Now our culture just markets everything by fear mongering and trying to disparage the competition. There were untruths either way but in the past they were usually embellishment about your own product - now they are lies about your competition. The nastiness if by far worse this time around. The 360 launch was a happy time.

Should be grand. On occassion I still roam the Mojave, or the Capital Wasteland.Man, I cannot wait to see where Fallout goes to next gen.
Might not be your cup-of-tea, but that fires MY imagination!To....another wasteland? There's really not much else they can do when most of the world has been nuked to oblivion, is there? I mean, besides taking on cities patterned after different time periods before modern society was destroyed.

Here you go, Seven, how it all began. http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/11/23/the-life-and-death-of-the-original-xboxSo if that's how Sony got into the game, how the hell did MS jump in?
The Fallout franchise setting has always been in a post nuclear destruction world, rather reminiscent of the the one in the movie, A Boy And His Dog. Fallout 3 played it a little more straight faced than the rest of the franchise, and a little more uncompromising and brutal. New Vegas reintroduced options to deal with the scattered bands of humanity encountered other than just to "kill the bastards". It was also a little more baroque and tongue-in-cheek. Both games have their own particular charm.Well, no. I've enjoyed Fallout thus far. The original PC games, as well as the console releases. I'm just saying that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot more they can do with the setting at this point without it feeling like a rehash. I hope they find a way around it.
google the topic for other versions, too. It was grand time to be a gamer. Thanks hammer will read it later tonight
Rumor has it, that "stuff" Nintendo wasn't into was a beefy royalty for each disc sold, going into Sony's pocket. The funny thing about that is that the Playstation originated as a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES (srsly, look up SNES-CD on wikipedia). Some stuff happened, Nintendo wasn't really into it, and Sony decided to go ahead with it on their own. So we have Nintendo to thank for arguably one of the greatest brands in gaming history.
And I too thought Playstation was a silly name for a console when I first heard it. But not as silly as "Xbox". Just goes to show, you can get used to near any name. Regardless of how silly it may sound at first.
f*** you, I'm breaking s***.No matter which console we prefer, we have a great Holiday Season of Gaming ahead of us, ladies and fellas. There's no point in making things unpleasant for one-another. Both consoles will do just fine. It's not a race, it's a marathon that will take years. Lets just meet each other halfway, in the bond of our common humanity, and our love of gaming, and let the better angels of our nature wish us all the happiest of times.
