Rumour - PS4 performance boost (vs. X1, DX12, etc.)

This leak better not be so Sony will show at E3 BS CGI trailers claiming real time gfx - its the momentum thing PS4 has going for it so wouldn't surprise me. Same goes to MS (cloud/DX12)
Sony is going to flop at E3. At least that's the feeling I get. Well let me rephrase that. I think E3 is going to be a letdown in general, especially if you want to see any real substance. We will get a bunch of pre-alpha bs footage and teaser trailers for games we wont see for a year and a half.

Project Morpheus, GG Openworld RPG, maybe a real preview of The Order, TLoU+1, Uncharted 4, maybe new God of War? At least three of those things would be pretty awesome.

I saw something not long ago where GG games said they were not sure they will be at E3. I hope they are as the GG RPG is rally intriguing.

Project Morpheus seems like a certainty. TLOU remake, likely. The Order a certainty. UC4, not sure..but ND will be there with a game besides TLOU.

I think GG RPG will be shown, but probably just a trailer. The Order will have gameplay, but I am fairly confident that is getting pushed to 2015. TLOU for sure, and UC4 also, hopefully gameplay. I just don't care much about Morpheus right now and I hope they don't go all Wonderbook with it.

Hahaha...yeah, no wonderbook, please. If it is there they need to show it within an established core franchise. They also need to try and do something cool with the OS, maybe in co-operation with the camera.

Yea going into E3 I believe MS may have the upper hand with the recent events, unless Sony can actually keep a secret for once and has some huge announcements as well. Project Morpheus could be cool but otherwise for what is announced for this year so far I don't really care either way.

Now if a new Syphon Filter is announced I will shat bricks.

Off topic post is off topic but oh well.

Flynn completely ignores that the tweet from Cort (made on 28 Feb 2014) may have nothing to do with the claims in the OP. He just latches on to it in complete delusional ignorance and assumes the two things are related. If he's actually a "Microsoft employee" he's not doing his bosses any favors.

Another reason why technical discussion is nearly impossible on this forum. Although with astro and cegar MIA and neo banned, it's not quite as bad as it was.

There's a very good ignore feature.....

I feel Flynn can be a good poster if he did not add in those cheap shots comments at Sony, or belittling Sony or boosted about MS in his posts.

MS should give him employee of the year award. I am working in a company that also made consumer products, but I do not spend my free time, boosting how much better my company's products are better than the competitions.

I just read Flynn's posts for entertainment purposes. There's too much hidden punches in his posts to actually take them seriously.

That's 100% real-time. Show me something on PS4 that is better looking than that... and that's a LAUNCH title.

Power (as far as consoles are concerned) isn't an issue with X1. It's easily capable.

Id believe this and it'd make perfect sense if the XB1 didn't have serious issues with keeping this fantastic looking launch game at anything near what one would call 30fps. We all know that the power of the XB1 is not a issue, it is easily capable, no ones denying that its really when people think that half the stuff in the XB1 that was designed around support things out of the box that aren't games (esram, audio hardware, etc) are suddenly going to bridge a 40% power difference.

Speaking of performance.....how much better looking is the single player in Battlefield 4 on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One version? I know the PS4 version is better, but I have never compared them in person on my consoles. The reason I ask is, I just finished Battlefield 4 single player on the Xbox One, and I found that to be the best looking game this generation so far (though I have not played Ryse or Infamous). To me, that would mean, that if the PS4 version is better than the Xbox One version...the PS4 version of Battlefield 4 would be the best looking game this gen so far, before these performance boosts...AND it's a launch title. I think too many people are focusing on the exclusive abilities and missing out on the third party attempts, which are incredible.

From what I remember, miniscule differences... somethings looked better on X1, some on PS4.. but it is all perception. Keep in mind, the attached video has the oversharpening filter ON that they disabled with an update on the X1. There hasn't been a post removal comparison I don't think.

There is no "if" it looks better. It "does" generally look better on the PS4, and from my understanding, performs better as well.

With that said, the differences really are minor, so it's not like most people will notice the difference unless they're specifically looking for it.

I too am baffled at why people keep talking about Ryse and Infamous as graphical powerhouses, when the real graphical powerhouse right now is BF4. Sure, it might not have the best textures, but graphics are more than just textures. BF4 is pushing stuff that Ryse and Infamous are not. BF4 is leagues ahead of those games.

Ryse is pretty damn beautiful at times, other times not so much... however, I agree, BF4 gave me many more "WOW" moments on gfx. I played X1 and PS4 versions literally side by side at a relatives house. It isn't clearly better on PS4... in fact, only if you stop and analyze stuff will most people spot a difference. In motion, these games looked nearly 100% identical. Occasional framerate hiccups on the PS4, fewer so on X1 was my perception, but that is just my anecdotal chip in :)

When you consider the stuff happening while playing the single player of BF4...and then not to mention the ISANELY large maps, number of vehicles and physics going on in multiplayer, it's a marvel to me with what we see on a console. I am sorry, as much as I want to put thousands of hours into ARMA 3 (which is an insanely awesome game from what I have seen...only on PC), I have seen the characters, buildings, and textures and from what I saw...BF4 on console looked much better. Then again. I do not have any concept of how LARGE ARAMA 3 is. But to me, that would make BF4 on PS4 the best looking shooter to date...ever.

PS4 version has better resolution and game performance. 10FPS difference for most of campaign mode tests.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-face-off

the divide in internal resolution - which remains at 900p on PS4 compared to the straight 720p on Xbox One - is the big sticking point, even with the removal of the Xbox version's sharpening filter which amplified the aliasing. Put simply, the assets and effects are identical for each next-gen platform, but the added pixel definition on PS4 spares it from the distracting edge-crawl on thin objects that proves to be an issue on the Microsoft side.

The PS4's strong performance lead is the real clincher though; a wide 10fps margin flaring up for most of our campaign mode tests. The comedown hits, however, once you realise that neither platform can pull off a straight 60fps during the larger Conquest multiplayer maps, where most of the fun is to be had. Regardless, a clear-as-day recommendation still goes to the PS4 version, and while there are glitches on both consoles that need to be addressed, the embracing of seamless, behind-the-scenes updates should at least ease some of Battlefield 4's growing pains.

Yeah, it's not "clearly" better, that's why I said you'd have to be specifically looking for it. But it is better. That's not even a debate. Question is, is it noticeably better to make a difference......not really.

As for performance, analysis has already been done that shows that not only is PS4 version the better performer, but by a noticeable amount:
To settle the performance debate once and for all though, we defer to our matching tests of the campaign mode. While more corridor-heavy by design, the Frostbite 3 engine is pushed to its extremes during the sandbox-style battles across Baku, plus a number of effects-heavy in-engine cut-scenes. The Xbox One scrapes a singular lead during an early set-piece, involving the floor giving way to a sea of alpha and particle effects - but this is an anomaly given what follows.

For every other sequence, we see a consistent delta of 10fps in the PS4's favour; from the docking of a rainy, battle-torn Singaporean beach to the ripping in half of an airship carrier. At its peak, the PS4 takes up to a 16fps lead also, leaving the Xbox One stuttering along in the face of alpha effects during the Baku mission's towering explosions. Let there be no doubt that the PS4 has a huge advantage in frame-rate and overall smoothness of control

My point wasn't to really have a comparison of the two...we already know who won the showdown on eurogamer. I was trying to point out that even before this special sauce, the PS4 was able to produce...at launch...from a third party developer...a game that probably trumps every game on new gen consoles (with the X1 version right there a step behind it with BF4 as well). It comes down to the developers and their talents. Now ICO has shown they found something that will benefit them, and can share with others that will help PS4 development.

Bluntly Kvally... you won't spot nearly enough of a difference in appearance on the title to call it superior.

The benefit is slightly higher FPS (40-50 for XB1 is still no slouch) and better aliasing on the PS4. But as you have seen, it isnt all that distracting on the XB1 version anyway.

Eurogamer even states the graphical assets and effects are identical on both versions.

I think you may have asked a loaded question, and the response will quickly devolve into another spec pissing match with no good end :)

No pissing match. I said myself not a real noticeable difference unless you're really trying to look for it.

Sorry, I wasn't accusing anyone of a pissing match.. i just know from experience, SOMEONE will come in and take the discussion south quickly.

The game is beautiful on both consoles, I guess I just get irritated at the chest thumpers who MUST proclaim a victor.

There's really no victor here. Both versions play well, it's just one is slightly better than the other. No biggie except for multiplatform owners.

You mean flynn, right? He already came through here and derailed the thread beyond hope. Or maybe you meant astrograd, cegar, intellivision, or kvally? Don't worry, they can't disrupt the thread any further than it's already been.

I can't think of any other posters that consistently come into tech threads and disrupt them with chest thumping, lies, and BS at the moment. Maybe you have other suggestions?

Lots of explosions and things moving chaotically around the screen don't mean technical superiority.

Ryse crushes BF in terms of geometric complexity, textures, shader complexity, lighting complexity, etc. It's also higher resolution than BF on X1. Now, it should be dramatically better, being that it runs at half the frame rate, but there's no denying that Ryse is the vastly superior technical showcase. I haven't seen enough of Infamous to make any conclusions, but Ryse clearly beats BF.

It would be fair for someone to say they like the look of BF more, or they prefer near-60fps to near-consistent 30fps, but in terms of raw visual fidelity and image quality per frame - Ryse wins hands down.

Back to that PS4 power boost and how great BF4 looks on the PS4.....

Yea this thread took a turn for the worst; I knew this would happen. I'll leave it to another mod to reopen if they think something of worth can be gleamed from this thread in it's current state.
