Ryse Son of Rome

Sword and a map, I believe.

So I feel like I'm always doing the same executions. I know evironmental ones are contextual, but are the rest random? I random watched one of Sheep Shagger's Ryse vids last night, and saw him do an execution I'd never seen (threw a guy in the air and cut his leg off). Am I not timing things well, or is it just luck of the draw?
Have you been unlocking them with your XP? You have to "buy" them. I believe it then pulls them randomly depending on what boost you have selected. For instance, you have to buy/unlock executions in xp, damage, focus, health categories. There are single and doubles...

Is that just multiplayer? I have all but two of the upgrades in singleplayer, none have been executions. There are health upgrades, focus upgrades, xp and focus gain upgrades, and some limited combat upgrades (amount of spears you can carry and number of perfect hits required to go into a frenzy / power mode). I haven't seen purchaseable executions anywhere.

Big huge panel that says Purchase Executions right next to the other customize tiles. I think they are random but I could be wrong. Not sure I understand how they are categorized or if certain things trigger different executions. I have see more variety the more purchased.

Also...where do I find collectables...vistas, comic books?

It seems my initial judgement about Ryse was wrong. After reading some user impressions I kind of want it now:)

My girlfriend is getting me a surprise Xbox One game for Christmas, which I believe is Ryse. I'm really looking forward to playing it now.

I am curious about this as well, I only have seen this and nothing about purchasing executions

*just saw lnino's post, ill have to look for this next time i play

Executions is the biggest panel on the screen

This. It is separate from the skills upgrade section, which is much smaller and below the customize gladiator tile. Biggest one. Has a pick of a guy getting executed on it ;)

Man, i think you did the same thing i did! I totally missed that huge panel in the middle for execution upgrades, and spent my entire first playthrough doing the same ones over and over! I put all my xp into the power upgrades thinking that was it because it always defaulted to that tab when I paused the game!

The vid you saw from me must have been from my current 2nd playthrough. I have been unlocking executions like crazy (since all the other stuff was unlocked), and it really mixes things up.

I've got to wonder if this is what happened to some of the reviewers who scored the game so low. I felt like such a tool, but less so now that I know you, and likely others, did it too.

LOL apparently i did the same thing. luckily i was only like 2 hrs or so into the game before you guys pointed it out.

I'm definitely having a bit more fun with the game now. I love the story and I definitely didn't see that little twist coming. Even with it's problems, Ryse really is a nice game. That level where you have to defend york from the siege was just epic. I actually felt like I was really there in an intense war. I love the way the game sounds on my 5.1 as well.

oh and that fight at the bridge vs the horde!! epic!! so epic my xb1 recorded it automatically.

I missed the execution upgrade through most of the game too. I was going into thessmaller panel and completely missed the BIG execution upgrade panel until I nearly finished my first play through. I can't blame any one but myself because it's the biggest panel on the upgrade section.

You guys have no idea how annoyed I am by this, haha. Sure, I'm mad at myself for not noticing the panel, but I'm also mad at the game for separating the two things. Even reading through he list of of ones that were already unlocked, I swear I've never seen half of them. Game seems to just do the same 6 or 7 over and over and over.

I think that the number of combo chain hits also count. Try attacking a group and get a high chain of hits, and see if you get the same results.

I haven't been back over to neogaf in a while, but I looked at the latest user impressions over there again, just 4 more pages of positive reviews, just like here, seems to be getting 7 to 8.5 range. This is from a known pro sony forum.

Everyone is lying on there too?

It's just a cool game. I don't know what reviewers were thinking. Really glad I didn't let them scare me away, I've been really happy with all three of the main console exclusives (Ryse, Forza, Dead Rising). Was only going to get Dead Rising initially, glad I splurged.

Just beat the game! loved it. That last bit of gameplay going down the hallway was awesome. =D

Do the executions and time them well, you will rack up on XP for unlocking new executions and other rewards. Also be strategic on how you use the bonus, don't be stuck on health, but use other bonuses as well. When you beat the game you don't loose all of your unlocks so when you play the game again you will have these bonuses.

So if I pick New Game, it won't reset my abilities? I've just been replaying Chapters that I've already beaten on Centurion now. I'd like to get the Centurion cheevo, but I'm worried about starting a new game.

I was wondering that too, dewfonse. Not sure. Finished the game tonight on normal difficulty. Had a lot of fun with it, really glad I didn't let reviews scare me away. Has anyone put much time into multiplayer yet? I'm hoping I like it, as I wouldn't mind supporting the game / dev more by purchasing the season pass.

I finished Centurion the other day and started Legendary by selecting the first chapter and the difficulty. You can go back and forth from chapters and difficulties. Your collectables get saved so you will only have to find them once.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but kinda easy. There are a lot of arenas which I still haven't played in all of them. I would definitely buy a DLC if it adds to the story but if it's for multiplayer I may hold off on it since I wouldn't find any need for it. A new game mode was planned so that would be intriguing.

Beat the game the other night. Very impressed with it after the reviews. Combat never got old at all. Nothing it did was poorly done. It was all excellent imho. That said, I want the IP to lean more towards RPG elements in the future. The setting was so utterly gorgeous that I really wanted to explore it more. The time period was also rife with cool stuff that should've been delved into more. Politics, conflict, philosophy, art, culture, religious themes, etc. Lots of areas to flesh out and let ppl explore and expand the experience. Use that to flesh out the gameplay experience, be it combat based or slower paced gameplay (puzzles, story bits, character building, customization stuff, etc).
