Interesting, but that video only mentions "Series X games" not being able to load off of an external. That's not quite the same thing as saying back compat games with Series X optimizations can't be played off of an external.

Damn. I'm not sure it's worth spending a couple of hundred bucks for an external SSD at this point since I have a huge external HDD. I may just deal with the transfer times between external and internal and wait for some other more cost affordable solutions in the future.

The video they posted showed only BC titles, also it was not in the same speed but however the SSD they used (Samsung) ran okay.
However, the USB is the bottleneck for as speed goes. It is far faster than the console we have now, but nothing as the SSD inside or the expansion card.
Plus they said the expansion card is roughly the same price as to get one for 1TB.

OK I have to revisit this discussion because I need some clarification. Some Xbox One games get an automatic boost on the Series X - these are NOT the "Series X/S Optimized" versions of the games. Take for example, Nier: Automata, which gets a nice boost in visuals and FPS. It is not "Series X/S Optimized." Will Nier still run and look better when playing off an external SSD?
Yes, just games that are “S/X optimized” won’t play/be “S/X optimized” when playing off an external storage device, if mechanical it load like that of an Xbox one, but if it’s an SSD/NVME external drive you’ll at least get comprable fast loading times.
It kind of cheeses me off that I am going to have to buy this thing very soon. My drive is down to 50% on the Series X and I haven't even installed Destiny, COD Warzone and a couple of other disk hogs.

Frick, I shoulda waited lol I looked at the small print at the 20% off I had and it would’ve been over at the end of the month.... still only paid 130 for it though and still feel like I paid way too much
I'll probably be buying one really soon too. Only thing that has me hesitant is that I'd hate for a 2TB version to come out a few months after I bought the 1TB version .

The problem with the cost is that if I'm spending that, I'm almost halfway to a PS5 (more for a digital).
The cost of 1TB vs the cost of an entire console just seems too high.
In reality, these next gen consoles cost $750 or more for most practical use. Needing storage expansion down the road is normal, but right away?

I'm not referring to fast load times. I'm talking about more FPS, better resolution, and in some cases, even better textures. All without being "Optimized."
So the games perform as though they're on the internal SSD? With added resolution, FPS, etc?
