They should have just done an offshoot of black flag, that's one of my favorite AC games. Just do an pirate game along the same lines without the AC stuff. The ship-to-ship combat was great in black flag, instead they wanted to do an MMO type of thing and they could never get it right.
SoT doesn't appeal to me at all, I've tried it and I don't want to have to have a bunch of different people on a boat to make things work I like the AC approach where I just control the whole ship myself. Other than the pirate theme they really don't have anything else in common so the comparisons aren't really worth the time anyway.

From what I know, the main reason game was even in development for past 1/2 decade was a deal with the Singapore government (tax break or something) to promote game development in Singapore.
But they alraedy close (or closing) the studio in Singapore so maybe they just bury this in bottom of ocean.
I enjoy pirate theme ( I watched every Pirate of caribbean movies & juts finished one piece on Netflix) but I don't think a pirate game base mainly on sea combat is what moszt people want in a pirate game.

It's because of the deal with the government that they have to release it.
They need to just get it out and hope it's forgotten about within a couple months.

Haven't had this on my radar at all, but gave it a try last night and really enjoyed it.
Played a few hours of the open beta and it’s pretty good. Certainly better than any expectations I had. It’s nothing like Sea of Thieves or even Black Flag. It’s like a modern version of Pirates. Your ship is essentially your character while at sea. Combat is fast and fun with different dynamics based on your class and load out. You can raid ports or trade with them. There are bounty hunter missions, faction missions, merc missions, random world events, and other stuff. Plus it’s fun as f***. Yeah I’ll be playing this when it comes out
