Tried out the demo during the weekend. Game is surprisingly good. Fun game. Now I see why they stuck with it instead of canceling.
Some interesting history about that up to the 19th century.
This whole thing seems like it could have been done much better and a lot easier if they had good leadership from the start. The naval combat in AC was already good, the oceanic exploration in Odyssey was great so combine that with a 100% pirate story and there you have your single player mode. Then add a co-op naval mode that can have things added over time and if enough people want it a pvp battleground and there you go. I know those are all complicated things and take time but a well-managed team that had real direction should have been able to do all of those things in a lot less time.
I feel like people are just jumping on a bandwagon. From what I've seen it actually looks alright. Not £$70 alright and that seems to be the issue.
Ubisoft labelled this as a AAAA game but it is more like a mid tier AA game and people are just happy to jump on it and get hate clicks.
I think that's the problem, them trying to oversell it. I think if they marked it at a $50 price point like Mirage it would be getting less hate. Instead of calling it a AAAA game, admit that this had a troubled development.
Gamers/gaming media/talking heads on social media jumping on a hate bandwagon…. never.
From what I played of the demo I thought it was fine and fun.
those 4/10 reviews are a f***ing joke. The game is great fun to play and looks (and handles) brilliantly. That said I totally agree with the AAA comments - its not a close to a AAA style game, so that's a marketing fail right there. It is a really good base from where to build out a shared world co-op game though. There is simply nothing else like this on the market right now.
No matter what they put out media/talking heads we’re going to hate no matter what. Some don’t play games for fun anymore.
