Skyrim

Upgrade is $20 on Xbox with a discount for Game Pass members, came to just under $20 with tax. It's around 24 to 25 gigs to download the free update. All the Creation Club content made available, aside from the 4 provided to everyone in the update, need to be downloaded if you want to use them.

I played several hours last night. It definitely feels much more consistent at 60fps compared to prior FPS Boost mode. Aside from that, I'm not really sure I'm noticing other next gen upgrades at the moment. Better draw distance, textures, water, and snappier loading perhaps? It's tough to say without seeing a direct comparison.

Really thinking about doing the upgrade from the Skyrim Special Edition that's on Game Pass. Playing Skyrim in 60 FPS could be a big difference maker and I've wanted to play a good RPG recently. Never did beat it on 360, and I don't remember like anything lol

Mods?

I'm not sure, but the "Series X Enhancements" are enticing as well. If they can make the game look better than I'm all for it. Maybe karmakid can answer your question, he's the most knowledgeable dog around

To be clear, the Anniversary Edition runs MUCH better and more consistently at 60fps than the FPS boost mode or hacked mods ever did. FPS boost on XS consoles would always have issues if a bunch of environmental effects, snow storms, or magic was happening, I've seen no stutters or issues with Anniversary Edition. I purposefully have run to the top of a couple mountains to verify, as blizzards used to make the game super stuttery in FPS boost. I've been playing in 3rd person a ton in Anniversary, which was always much too ackward before.

One other nice improvement, loading seems to be super quick. Roughly 1.5 to 2 seconds to load into a house and 2 to 3 seconds to fast travel. Hop in and out of menus super quickly without pauses or stutters. Granted it was much improved on XSX (and PS5 too I assume) SSDs inn Special Edition, but I still think it would take about double the time or more (4ish seconds) to load into and out of houses, fast travel was 4 to 10 seconds, and menus always caused a bit of a pause and slow down.

Draw distance details seem improved, that's one of the few things outside of loading and frame rate improvement I feel confident in.

Hopefully we get an official list of the "enhancement differences" at some point. I'd started a new character a few days before the update, but hadn't been playing enough to really be able to weigh in on what graphical effects are definitely improved or not. I keep thinking I'm seeing better effects and textures from time to time, but may be making it up.

Seems to be a ton of creation club stuff you can use if you like. I like that they only "forced" 4 of the things into the base anniversary version, and one is just survival mode which you can opt in and out of whenever you like. You can load in and play the rest however, and when ever you want. Looks to be some cool stuff to try.

I remembered the Special Edition loading times feeling much faster than they actually were. The new next gen system loading speeds are a huge improvement, I'm fast traveling left and right to hop back and forth between new Anniversary Edition locations & houses, it's super fast. Hopping in and out of merchant shops is super quick, almost makes the cool old loading screens impossible to see now as it loads in so fast you don't have time to read or zoom in.

I wonder if we'll see more graphical optimizations / upgrades for next gen systems. They said they'd announce them at a later date about a month ago, and never did. Seems like they either couldn't get something working that they wanted to in time for release, or decided to scrap it all together.

Just bought it. My first time owning Skyrim. Just created my character and took the horse and buggy into a town. Got off the wagon and now the guys are being picked from my line up. One guy started to run away and he was TAKEN DOWN!

Got my wife Skyrim on the Switch a month or two ago she’s been playing that a lot so I gave it a go on Series X (haven’t played it since 360) earlier this week and man this game is so much better now. Looks great and load times are instant. Now I’m back addicted to this and put Witcher 3 back on the back burner again lol. Playing Skyrim again just feels like comfort.

Going to try and focus on the main quest this time. Back in the day I put over 200 hours into the game and never finished it. Just explored plus did guild quests/side quests and leveled up my character.

So far lvl 12 now in Skyrim. This play through I’ve been working on my sneak and doing sneak attacks, using magic, and using one handed weapons, bows, and light armor.
