Skyrim

I always thought it would be a hassle to be a vampire with all the feeding and powers based on sunlight/darkness?
This ain’t just a normal vampire, it’s a vampire lord and boy they are powerful with some very cool abilities. You could do a couple Dawnguard quests, get the power and if you don’t like it, you could always revert back to human form.

Whoa, that's a good update. Crosshairs on the higher spells will be a gamechanger too. I can't really aim them well as it is.

Put in an hour with. Overall, melee combat and magic is even better, far better for ranged magic.

One thing to mention is the smooth turning is super fast. I had to dial it all the way down.

1st night: Set character up with controller and switched to Move. Played for 3-4 hrs.

2nd night: Played with controller. Set turning to smooth and turned blinders off... Started to feel woozy, turned blinders on... It was too late. After a total of like 2.5 hrs total of playing, I felt just like those late nights in my early 20s, when I could not hold my alcohol. I didn't vomit, but everything was spinning, including my stomach. Real life was now making me sick.

3rd night: Took a break from Skyrim VR.

I'll be playing later tonight, though... with the Move controllers. I think I liked them better anyway. It just took a good while to figure out the controls.

Some people are using the updated smooth turning on the Moves and dialing it up high sensitivity and just "tapping" the buttons to turn, then if they need to spin around fast 180, the speed is there.

Really digging magic in VR, its just fvcking awesome.

Dude become a vampire lord. It was a lot of fun in the OG Skyrim but in VR OMFG!
Using vampiric grip on an enemy which is kinda like telekinesis on steroids where you snatch them off their feet towards you then aim upwards and throw them about 60ft into the air and then watch em bounce lol
Or with my right hand vampire ability, aim at them for a mid air blast or just as they hit the ground. It’s soooooooo cool!

Holy hell. I really like doing shouts in VR and tossing people around so that might be a thing.

Is the sky rim vr bundle version 2 with the Hdr passthrough

Are you in the US? If so, the Skyrim bundle they sold there ($350 during BF) had version 2 of PSVR, which has the HDR passthrough. If you're in another country, I can't say, since bundles seem to have been different.

If you want an easy way to tell the difference, check the image on the box. See that triangle-shaped indentation near the rear of the unit? That is on the PSVR 2.0 (it's a place to stick the earbuds). It isn't on the PSVR 1.0 sets.

PSVR 2:

PSVR 1 (notice lack of the triangle-shaped indentation):

I like the flexibility of the new smooth movement with the Moves. If I want to make a little turn, I can; and if I want to make a big turn, I can. I can match the size of my turns to the shape of the environment, rather than ending up offset from a door or whatnot because of the fixed-interval turning.

It helps to have a cross-hair for the magic, too. I would spray fire pretty recklessly, before. Setting the drapes on fire wherever I went...

I took off all the blinders. I don't think I need them.

My last full run through Skyrim was with mods. I miss those. It's hard to go back to the slow levelling and having to visit 3 different vendors in 2 cities just to unload loot, because vendors don't carry more than 750 gold. Cheapskates. I heard a rumor that mods might get included eventually, but I doubt it.

I've noticed I have a different reaction to being in underground or dark indoor environments in VR than I did in the normal game. In the normal game, I'm not a fan of dungeons and caves, but they're okay. In VR, though, I feel uncomfortable. Not claustrophobic, exactly, but just cramped and sort of tense. I love it when I emerge from a cave or castle into the outdoors. I always feel a sigh of relief when I get outside and can see the mountains and the sky.

Yeah the new control scheme is pretty awesome. I'm playing with the sensitivity pretty high now and I just bump it. Sounds like what you're doing too. I know what you're saying about dungeons, have you had any jumpscares? I've had two.

Another thing I've been doing is playing with no music. I kinda dig it.

Wow that sucks. I'm not sure I want to rebuy it for the third time.

Yeah, I hear you. It's my third dip, too. I got it in a bundle, so I thought of it as "free," but of course it wasn't.

Assuming you're up for another run through Skyrim, it's worth $60. You know how much content there is. And Bethesda put a lot of effort into this -- it's not a sloppy port; it's well done. I'm also glad (and happy to reward) a major publisher for throwing their weight behind VR. Also, PSVR install base isn't big, so pricing has to reflect that.

There ought to be a bunch of used copies hitting the stores soon, and maybe a price drop in a couple months. So you can probably get it for $40, if you wait a bit.

I've saw something on reddit a few days ago that I thought was kinda lame, but I gave it a try and its pretty cool.

Speak the text to npcs out loud. If you press the button as soon as you finish the last word, the npc will follow up and it feels more real. I had a session last night and enjoyed it surprisingly.

Have to say I'm getting a little burnt on the game and don't think I'll make it all the way through. I'm level 17 and have put around 20 hrs in. Although I've heard people say Skyrim VR is a completely new experience, that's really kind of hyperbole. Of course, VR makes the experience feel different in a sense, but it really is (no surprise) the same quests.

I had just completed a second run of Skyrim (SE) not too long ago, so all of this feels dreadfully familiar. I had also played about 20 hrs of a third run, while waiting for Skyrim VR. I guess I over did it. I know how all the quests go. Hell, I did them twice within the past six months. I don't think I'm up for spending another 100 hours in this game, completing everything for a third time. I have already spent nearly 500 hours in this world. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and yet, I'm not looking forward to completing all the quests all over again. VR adds a third dimension, but it doesn't remove the sense of "eh boy, here we go again" when it comes to the quests.

Not to complain too much, but I also find questing in dungeons and caves sort of unpleasant. It's not claustrophobic, just grim and dark, not an atmosphere I like. I much prefer being outside. It doesn't matter so much in a "flat" game, but in VR, the effect is much more pronounced for me.

Maybe I'll just futz around with a few quests I feel like doing, or maybe just do some above-ground exploring. I probably need to give Skyrim a rest and try other VR games, too. Skyrim has been pretty much the only thing I've played since I got the unit.

I heard The Inpatient is going to employ voice recognition, so you'll actually speak the lines yourself, rather than click a button to select a line. Skyrim has an unvoiced protagonist, but lots of games have a voice actor who delivers the lines, which breaks immersion if you're trying to inhabit the role yourself. So this new method, of actually saying the words yourself, sounds like it'll increase immersion quite a bit. Although if other people are in the house, they might wonder who you're talking to.

How much better does the Move controllers feel vs. the Dual Shock? Are they essential or is DS fine?

Controversial subject. It differs among players. Both dead and I prefer the Moves. I started with the DS but found that they produced motion-sickness, and Moves did not. That's the main advantage for me. I also find them more immersive. There's something about having "hands" in the game vs. having your hands on a controller in your lap -- it just feels different. The main disadvantage is that the Moves don't give you the smooth locomotion that the DS does (even with the patch, it still isn't quite like the DS -- thumbstick vs. two buttons). I also find them a bit awkward, because my brain is trained with DS control scheme. I am continually asking myself, "What button do I press for ___." Eventually it will get automatic, but it's a learning curve.

Moves are cool if you're an archer -- you can fire arrow a lot more rapidly than you can in the normal game (DS has head-aiming, which is also nice). And they give you advantages when spewing magic, because you can direct the spray, including shooting it in two different directions if you're wielding magic in both hands.

I think the Moves are better once you learn them. It takes practice though, a few days perhaps. The good thing for you is that you have the patched version with more options.

Yeah, you might just need a break, that's alot of Skyrim in close proximity, and the only game you've played in VR.

Definitely is. From day 1-3-5(now way better than that) was like different completely different levels of control. But it definitely clicks after a while. In the beginning there were a couple of times were I was "oh hell, I'm going DS4" but most everything negative was user error or ignorance on my part. But yes, its super empowering once you figure it out.

Now, if I had to 1v1 my day 5 character with the Moves, and we were the same level, I would absolutely destroy that version. I'm so much more capable with magic, melee, and just overall movement. I was decent with archery from the start.

If you went ahead and read our reviews for both Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR then you’d know we scored Skyrim VR a whole point higher, which may have tipped you off. But yes, that’s right: We think Skyrim VR on the PSVR is a better game than Fallout 4 VR on the HTC Vive at this time.

The reasoning is a mixture of things. As of now, Skyrim VR actually looks a bit better visually than its newer PC brethren, which came as a bit of a shock. Plus there are fewer performance issues to contend with, making for a much smoother experience in general. And even though the PS Move controllers and the PSVR’s limited tracking are far from ideal, we still preferred that setup to the HTC Vive’s wands and complete lack of functioning gamepad support.

They like Skyrim on PSVR better than Fallout on PC Vive.

I played standing up last night with a fan on me. Went to a Forsworn camp to do one of the typical "kill the bandit leader" missions. Ended up being incredibly satisfying, fighting on the edge of the mountains as I made my way up. Every once in awhile I would stop to take in the view and once an arrow flew right past my head from above.
There was a sensation as it whizzed by me, causing me react to duck down. haha. I felt like an idiot but the sense of the presence of that arrow felt real. Such a small thing, but really sold me. A dragon flew by and the music kicked in, but he never landed, it gave an awesome background as I picked off the forsworn though. Four hours of my life just evaporated and I loved every minute of it.
