Official Thread Star Wars Battlefront 2

This shouldn't surprise people. The moment that loot boxes starting on console and pc games years ago, as gamers we had a chance to stop it but didn't. This is just the natural progression that companies like EA was going to take to suck every cent they can. Yes, game prices should go up but there is a need for other changes to the video game industry as well.

Gamers could stop it by not buying loot crates. I bet that some of the people who rage so much are the ones who end up buying $400 worth of them. I mean come on. I'm not defending the practices of companies but a little self restraint goes a long way.

A Marvel Heroes player who goes by EITTurtle bought the game on Xbox in July. Since then, he says he’s sunk $400 in microtransactions, unlocking characters like Spider Man, Storm, and Captain America. Earlier this week, Marvel announced that the game’s servers will be shut down in December. And EITTurtle, like many other players, is now begging for a refund.

Videogame scumminess continues.

OK, spending $400 on microtrans is pretty laughable, but at least give gamers lots of lead time servers are being shut down. Most games seem to give gamers lots of time... months worth. Some even announce it half year out.

But Disney gives gamers one month lead time? lol

Not saying Disney is right by only giving little notice, but if gamers like that guy didn't pour $400 into it, game makers wouldn't bother with micro trans to start with.

You hear stories like this all the time on reddit. People spending hundreds on loot boxes. (yes, they should give people a lot of warning and shut down transactions long before shutting down servers but that's no the point).

There are people on the Overwatch reddit who say this all the time too. They spend hundreds and still don't have that particular skin they way. I guess it shows that this somehow does hit certain people to the point where they go nuts. Not really gambling but hooks people in the same anyway. That doesn't seem healthy at all.

Back to Star Wars - I have not played MP yet but I have friends who have and they say that the whole progression system is long but so far they've never felt gimped (now there's no pay to win, just a grind). For anyone still on the fence, it is what it is but the game is still fun and playable.

I'm glad there are people who buy lots of loot boxes when the loot boxes are done right

Lootboxes will be getting investigated by some major countries in Europe I bet. Belgium and Holland are already looking it, so game companies better be careful or they will have to put gambling on their PEGI cases in Europe.

I learned that buying packs of cards where you weren't sure what you are getting is dumb when I was a kid when I tried collecting Marvel cards. It's the same thing.

That is actually a massive advantage for X1X. Higher settings and huge resolution bump. Did not expect that much.
Lots of games on X are blowing past PS4 Pro.

Going strictly on tflop count (like PS4 vs X1), the ballpark result for graphically intensive games lead to PS4 having better resolution roughly equal the tflop difference. Every other graphical aspect was pretty much a wash.

For X vs PS4 Pro, the tflop difference also about 40%. But instead of just a resolution bump of +40% for X, many games have better resolution much beyond that, as well as better textures, frame rate etc..... although for SWBF 2, the Pro has slight frame rate advantage where it seems locked at 60 fps according to the video, while X is 60 fps most of the time, with dips to 58 or 59 here and there.

So it goes to show (for any naysayers), it's not just about tflop count. Other specs influence the performance and visuals.

Just to show how dumb tflop counts are, there used to be an old slide of Sony promoting PS3 at 2 tflops. That's even more than PS4 OG.

I think it’s only a matter of time before something like that happens.

Just let the games speak for themselves. People with a pro are still getting a great experience. It runs well and looks good. Does it matter if the X has a prettier version? Not all that much. Does the X version lack because the PC is higher spec? No.

Game looks amazing. I will grab it after a deep sale just to play the campaign.

This game looks amazing on the X1X. Finished the campaign and it was cool. Short but fun.

Multiplayer is fun.

I don't know how anyone informed about the situation could justify buying this right now. Unless it's second hand, how do you feel comfortable giving money to a company that essentially tried to extort its fanbase?

I also don't get you people actually defending this. Cite inflation and rising costs all you want, nothing makes this blatant consumer disrespect okay. Microtransactions can be tolerable and even beneficial (Halo 5 I think fits this model). A free to play model in a 60 dollar game, meanwhile, is not acceptable. There's no middle ground here, they tried to f*** the last cent out of every one of us.

FWIW some of the information that was presented was just flat out wrong. I've got 20k from just a couple hours play. The 40 hours estimate of grinding that was originally thrown around was wrong. Sorry, but it was. Of course EA should have clarified that. The reddit post ignored challenges which give you most of your money. You get 10k just from playing the short single player.

Yes, the 40 hours number was flat out wrong. Yes, every article written citing it was wrong.

You have Kylo Ren, Rey and a bunch of other heroes at the very start. Vader doesn't seem to be any more powerful in the game (heroes are very much weaker compared to the previous game).

Everything is still locked behind an old fashioned leveling system, so pay to win is there in a way, but it is no big deal the way the game is.

Guns are still earned only with playing. So the balance of the game is fine. Star cards are really the only thing and so far I haven't noticed any massive advantages. Just like the first game, the starting guns you get are some of the most useful ones in the game.

Nobody would have been forced to buy loot boxes the way the game is now or would have been, other than those "gotta unlock it all on day 1" types. Remember, this game is Battlefront. It isn't a high skill game. The guns all have massive inaccuracy built in at any range.

Gamers don't get that with a little self control, this system is CHEAPER than the DLC model. I guess people would rather spend $30-40 on the DLC down the road.

Funny that they made a comment about making it feel rewarding when it has to be the least satisfying and rewarding progression system ever

It's not exactly wrong because it was excluding challenges which I think is a fair point given that once they dry up you may have got a couple heroes (at the expense of not getting loot boxes) but you will be faced with a pretty long grind going forward.

Those challenges and finishing the story payouts are once offs. So getting 20K from a couple of hours of game play isn't how the game will reward you continuously. I'm glad your enjoying but disagree that the information was misrepresented.

The original price was probably a bit too high, but again people put way too much into it. People had incomplete information and jump on the "F* EA" train. Meanwhile the game is tons of fun and that's what gets lost. I would never have bought a loot box. I would have been Kylo Ren or Rey at the start.

Heroes actually die so quick in this game as to be not that important. It is very different from the first one where heroes were dominant.

Of course as always, EA needed transparency and ultimately failed.

You know why people rage at EA but not Activision? Because EA gave people a look into their system while Activision hid it until after launch.

To me, that's worse than EA.

I knew you two would jump on this.

I'm not taking a "side". I just want gamers to have accurate info. What people do with that information and how they spend their money is something else entirely.

There are no sides here as far as I'm concerned. By all means post about your experience as I'm sure it will be beneficial to people on the fence. What really irks me about this game is that its Star Wars - my all time favorite franchise, and it's being raped by EA.

Well, I'm sure George Lucas is happy at least.

Its probably still too high given that most of the progression is tied to the loot boxes which you need those credits for.

FWIW many people already have Luke and Vader unlocked. Less than a week for even those who started playing Wednesday.

That's obviously with zero real money purchases. I doubt anyone has every hero unlocked but you start with many unlocked from the start anyway.

So they are sacrificing their troopers for that

Not really, the old fashioned progression system still factors in. So while it is pay to win it isn't like you could have made yourself great on day 1.

I don't like the idea of it anymore than anyone else, but really it isn't as bad as it was made it to be. I blame EA mostly for not simply clarifying it.

I've got stuff from loot crates that I can't use yet because I'm not high enough level. Plus, the default rebel and empire blasters still work great just like the original game. Honestly I have a higher level gun and I rarely use it. I prefer the default blasters.

The game is so much more fun than the original. Heroes can be taken down much easier and the classes work a lot better.

EA messed up by not being open and up front about everything. They stayed mostly silent or vague when they did talk and that just made things explode.

Yeah but how do you get to that level? You just play right? Well for the overall level sure but the star level? Need star cards but for that so you better open up more crates.

Horrendous progression system.

EA messed up by trying to make the game pay to win and retail at the same time. That’s why it’s go such much negativity. Don’t try to make this out just to be poor communication because that’s just wrong. And like you say, it’s important that gamers get the facts about this game.
