Official Thread Street Fighter 5

Sadly most people who buy the game don't participate in any "pro gaming" tournaments nor do they follow them so the game just looks like a half baked title. The core mechanics are there etc but if you aren't someone who plays online there really isn't a reason to buy this game right now. I have it and I finished the "story mode" very quickly as just about everyone has and I can't stand the survival mode, 30 matches? really? there is no standard player vs cpu match or arcade mode, not having those is just insanely stupid IMO. I'm sure in a few months when there is more content I'll be happier with it but right now it just seems like a shell of a street fighter game to me, especially when the last fighting game I bought had a ton of content and is still being supported nearly a year after release (MKX)

It was along the lines of either having the game release much later with the base content and not getting it into the hands of the competitive scene early enough for the Capcom Pro Tour, or get it out early to the competitive scene and roll out the base content a little later for free.
Ah, the old Rock and a hard place. Makes sense. Hopefully when they do get around to expanding the base content they do it for free....it isn't like Capcom to try and nickle and dime their customers for every little piece of content....or is it ;)

Yep mostly for the Pro Tour I'd say. Either way I'd rather have the game now and get to mess around with it and learn it a bit and then get the rest later. Not much different than early access type games I suppose.

They probably should've just made it more clear on that aspect and just labeled it "early access". I can't help but think that since there is no arcade release, a lot of the game you bought last week will change a lot over the year until it is content complete.

I think that is one part of the problem. Though it is still a good game. Not KI good (metacritic for KI is at 85, where SFV is at 79), but still good none the less.

The game plays great but it feels like a launch title in terms of content and the server issues are bad. Just a very poor launch overall.

And we are talking about a game that released during the 3rd year of the PS4. Really hard to let these issues slide with that fact alongside the game having a pretty long period of beta testing.

exactly as a fan...I am happy to have it now if it's in its best state or not at i get to play it.One of the reasons I got a xbo was to play KI and that game offered even less back then than SF5 is offering now but I was happy to play KI s1.

Evo and other major fighting game tournaments good ie the Main event good unlike a opener to such events good like KI...SF5 is the Main Attraction as it's much more popular, deeper and pro based of a game than KI.

Metacritic (which you always use as the determining factor) says 85 > 79

Insert fact meme here.

I just told you the facts. I will add it was 2 early to rate KI when they did(it had like 4 characters I think) And SF5 shouldn't be reviewed until the June updates.

Take that to the comparison thread ladies

Also its 79>73 in favor in SF5

Killer Instinct S2 is 85. SF5 is 79 and dropping. It started higher in the low/mid 80s when all kinds of no-name sites were included at 85+, but as soon as Metacritic included more mainstream sites with lower scores, it's now at 79.

User reviews are an abomination for SF5.

SF5 > KI - Number of characters
KI > SF5 - Features
KI > SF5 - Online integrity
KI > SF5 - Price

Heck, for $60, you can get the KI Collection which is KI S1, KI S2, and the original arcade games KI and KI2 too. While the individual seasons are only $20 if bought separately.

SF5 is $60 for 16 characters and an unfinished game. A cash in.

So SF5 is the bigger game with the better reviews? Sounds like a clear win to me.

Yep 79>73. Poor KI bringing up the rear.

Plus games don't even count unless they are $60. Union taught me that.

And that comes from lack of transparency.

While the core gameplay seems to be praised, the gripes comes mostly from 2 camps:

- Lack of content
- Online issues

Online issues can happen to any game (remember when CoD4 on 360 killed XBL during 2007?), but content is something a game company can either disclose or play cloak and dagger.

Gamers assumed basic game features and modes (which every fighter has) would be included. But it wasn't.

Now is that Capcom's fault for not telling gamers? Or gamers' fault for assuming basic features would be included even though Capcom basically said nothing leading up to launch? Capcom never said the game would be chock-full of modes and features.

A case can be made for both views.

But gamers IMO are correct. A game missing basic features that have been included since the 16-bit/32-bit days should be reasonably included. I remember playing Tekken 2 or 3 on PS1 and it had various modes, training mode and that Streets of Rage offshoot mode. A full featured fighter..... made 20 years ago.

If you buy a car, you shouldn't get blind-sided with the fact the car doesn't have Reverse, a glove compartment, or working windshield wipers just because the company didn't say so in it's marketing brochure. These are basic features no car buyer should need to question.

Actually Killer Instinct Collection is $60.

On metacritic, it doesn't show a score as it hasn't got critic reviews, but the user reviews show 7.5. SF5 user views are 3.4. So KI Collection is more than double as good.

Folks Intellivision has informed me that its actually 79>0. What a bloodbath.
If you want to determine a N/A score due to no reviews yet = 0. So be it. In that case, Cabela's Game Hunter is better than Uncharted 4.

But hey, defend SF5 all you want.

Every fighting game released for years has come with more features (and usually better online)... MK, DC Universe, even $20 KI has more modes and more stable online. For jam packed fighters, those old VF4 games on PS2 were great.

A good video. And surprisingly, Angry Joe didn't do his usual colourful, loud and costume themed videos. Just a normal video anyone can make.

"When people say Street Fighter 5 is basically SF5 Alpha Access..... it's a joke, but it's a funny and true joke......No arcade mode, no vs. cpu mode, no spectator mode..... The game forces you into a tutorial mode at the beginning."

Online gameplay is much smoother in SFV.
KI was beyond unfinished in comparison with SFV when I purchased it but I still purchased and enjoyed it.

Big difference is that KI devs were up front about what's in the game, what's not and what content is coming later. Basic features are in the game from the start.

There was no big cloak and dagger surprises when people bought KI.

And KI is only $20.

Launch KI was terrible in the amount of characters it offered(4 lolz)
Was full of connection issues etc. But fans still enjoyed it and fans of SFV still enjoy it.
MKX is terrible online,DC Universe isn't a fighting game and the salt is real in this thread.

I knew I wasn't getting certain features till March and June because Capcom was up front.
KI had 4 characters from the start. You need a better comparison cause KI was a more incomplete product than SFV @ launch.
