Official Thread The Game Awards this December to be shown in IMAX Live. 2022

No spinning. No one really cares about the awards hence why 98% of the conversation is "what games do you think will get shown?"
Yeah it's basically a winter showcase for games, awards are all subjective so I don't really care one way or the other who wins and who doesn't. ER won game of the year, good for them, it wasn't my game of the year lol. Out of what I played God of War was the best but that's just me. If they didn't show new game trailers nobody would watch.

Im pretty sure the winners are greatful, and those there enjoyed it….except for that one troll.

Besides playstation and xbox showing nothing new I feel like something was missing/cut
I saw some stuff I'm looking forward to but I can't think of anything that got me really excited. I don't care about Death Stranding 2 at all. Diablo 4, Suicide Squad and SF6 look cool but we've seen them all before and Tekken 8 looks good too but I'm not really a fan of the series. That being said I may give T8 a try just because of how it looks.

EVERY popular gaming forum has ongoing threads about the award winners with at least one dedicated to the GOTY.

Yes and the discussion about winners was totally down to earth and not people crying this game didn't win this.

And I guarantee any fourm with separate topics for the awards and trailers shows a crap load more activity in the trailer topic before the show had even happened.
But you keep trying to make out like this is a big event.

Down to earth? More like major salt piles that are keeping the discussion going.

Threads were made before and after with the results so nope again.
It's the biggest event of the year for gaming.
If you don't know this than you don't have a clue.

I see some merit from both sides of the argument. The game trailer and world premieres (which are exclusively secured for TGA by Geoff) definitely boost the popularity of the Game Awards and on the other hand, people do care and feel that TGA is a pretty big thing , I mean you have key gaming figures and developers from all over the world travel and come in person to attend this for one night every year. They care enough to come join the fun and to show their hard work to gamers on a global scale so I tend to think this is a pretty significant deal for them.

And TGA has increased their viewer count from last year.

Awe, why no mention of Steam viewer numbers? What beat it?

Dang, so probably those who viewed it, maybe most, watched it for the chance to win a steam deck? I was gonna log on and leave it on but I forgot my username and password and didn’t want to make a new account so I stuck to twitch 😆

Had both going all night still didn't win :(

Ok, I lied and made a mistake. Xbox did have an exclusive game, one that’s been in development for a while through their id@xbox partnership, which I’m very excited for.

Why would MS not show anything from announced games because of the FTC? That makes no sense, it sounds like excuse making if anything. They've announced a bunch of games too early and gone too long without releasing anything and their fans are finally starting to voice their frustrations online so it sounds like Jez trying to cover MS. This lawsuit will likely take some time, are they just going to hold off on releasing any new games until the buyout is approved or denied? That was clearly not the reason.

Probably because they didn't want to show games that would add fuel to the exclusives argument, or so it's been reported.

That's just an excuse, it makes NO sense and it hurts their brand. I know people are saying that online but they shouldn't be taken seriously.

Even Jez can't defend much anymore.

"It's hard to know for sure where the difficulty lies for Microsoft and its first-party games output. Some have blamed Microsoft's internal rules around contract work as causing unnecessary churn that sees projects lose key staff on a higher-than-usual basis. I've been told internal politics over engine use has also led to developmental problems in games like Fable and Halo Infinite, as Microsoft sought to use its own tools rather than fully-featured industry standards like Unreal Engine, which further exacerbates problems around training contractors, only to lose them mid-project. The pandemic was harsh on all sides of game development, but that doesn't seem to have stopped Sony from releasing Horizon Forbidden West or God of War Ragnarok this year, nor has it stopped Nintendo from launching Splatoon 3 or Pokemon Scarlet / Violet."

Funny how Sony managed to deliver games consistently with their studios working with contractors and also using their own custom engines. Here's a list of studios that have delivered games since 2020 using their custom engine:
  • Bluepoint
  • Guerrilla
  • Insomniac
  • Japan Studio / Team Asobi
  • Naughty Dog
  • Polyphony
  • Sony Santa Monica
Insomniac will probably have 4 AAA games released in 3 years using their own game engine. As a matter of fact, the only game from a Playstation Studio that released using an "industry standard" engine was Returnal.

Funny indeed^

RETURNAL's engine had nothing to do with Sony. Returnal was a thing before Sony bought them.

You can see a cadence when the same engine is used over and over and shared. Look at Forza Horizon....using the same engine over and over allows you to pump out multiple releases. Look at Call of Duty.....using the same engine over and over allows you to pump out multiple releases.

Forza Motorsport's engine is getting a major overhaul. Halo Infinite's engine got a major overhaul.

I must not be a "gamer" anymore. I can't imagine following random fanboy goofballs on Twitter like some of the ones you guys link to.

I don't follow them either , I just browse my feed lol. I get both Sony fans and Xbox Fans on my timeline and I just scroll through.

Yeah E3 was great for what was shown, Sony hasn't been there since 2018, state of plays get tons of attention and they released plenty this year.

I love my Xbox too, but I was just kind of hoping for a Forza trailer or at least something on the last big show for the year.
