Official Thread The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Wii U/Switch)

DF hands on....

900p tv
720p handheld

Recap from GAF:

Nintendo Switch

-720p and locked 30fps in handheld mode
-900p and 30fps when docked
-Texture filtering is poor
-Frame-rate drops typically seem to happen when there's depth of field on screen
-Lowest recorded frame-rate is 20fps.

Still looks pretty and everyone was praising the U version when that was announced and that's 720p.

No reason to get a Switch for Zelda other than being portable.

  • Both launch on the same day, March 3.
  • Both have a frame rate of 30 FPS.
  • Both versions of the game offer the same content.
  • On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
  • The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game's open-air feel.
  • The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3 GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
  • Some icons, such as on-screen buttons, differ between the two versions.
  • A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available

Plus better visuals and sound. Can't wait.

Nintendo's response to people saying they'll just get Zelda for the Wii U.

I'm basically that guy TD. Buying Switch for Zelda.

But I'm buying into the long term potential as well. Just like any console really.

Part of me can't believe that Nintendo didn't have more at launch though as they talked a big game about their mistakes on Wii U software and how they were going to become a more efficient software provider.

Maybe they will? But not off to a great start.

That's fair.

I think you were the one we discussed a month ago about Switch expectations. Zelda will probably be a good game. So if you're good to go with that, it's your call.

Just don't expect BMW features and performance from a Toyata Corolla. Toyota might put out a TV ad showing the best version of Corolla there is, but at the end of the day it's still a Corolla. When I bought my laptop 6 years ago for $1,100, I knew it wouldn't be as powerful as a desktop for the same price, but I wanted a laptop so the expectations were known.... smaller form factor, but much less powerful. Fine with me.

DLC for Switch seems like a tricky proposition with its memory storage space.

I assume the complaint is about hard mode being in there as DLC.

That is one. Two would be DLC coming before the full game releases (why was the content not just part of the game?). And three, Ninty has given us a console with a woefully small hard drive that isn't going to do well to hold much extra content. I will give a four also, what is the likelihood that you will also have to pay for their online sub in order to have access to the DLC? Could end up costing you $50-60 just to get the extra content (online sub + cost of DLC).

So yeah, nobody I know of is against extra optional content. But to ignore some blatant misgivings isn't rational.

Anyone who ordered the master edition with Amazon might want to check their emails as they are cancelling them

Zelda tested. 2.5 hours battery life as tested (GAF thread). No wonder they said "roughly". A subjective word. "Roughly 3 hours" does sound better than 2.5 hours. Marketing at its finest.

Nintendo's official info from their site:

System battery life

Battery life can last for more than six hours, but will vary depending on the software and usage conditions. For example, The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild can be played for roughly 3 hours on a single charge.

"The result, for all the longevity of its series and the familiarity of the open world genre, is a game that evokes feelings we haven't felt for 20 years. Not since Ocarina of Time have we set foot in a world that feels so mind-bogglingly vast and unerringly magical, that proves so relentlessly intriguing. Plenty of games promise to let us go anywhere and do anything. Few, if any, ever deliver so irresistibly. 19 years on Ocarina is still held up as the high water mark of gamings best loved and greatest series. Now it may have to settle for second place"

Already knew it would be great, the question when any Nintendo made Zelda game is released is just how great will it be? Sorry y'all that were thinking it would suck:laugh:

I don't think a single person said they thought it would suck. Just that the GOTY predictions were premature.
