You’re saying they had to just “turn it off and back on again”? Like pull the cable off the battery?

Glad she’s fixed, when do you get her back?

And 😂 my moms car we call her Fiona too
They plugged something into the computer and sent reset to it.

Mine is Fiona from Shameless TV show ❤️

I was looking at a used Kia Soul, but it a manual. I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on learning manual shift? I don't imagine it's that hard and probaby owning one you can spend a lot of time with would be the best way.

Yes, I do have training on manual shifting big trucks which will help, but semi truck transmissions don't respond the same way;; they don't Clutch quite the same way. It may turn out trying the car will be lot's easier.

Also, for many years, I've been driving modern Autoshifter Semis, so I'm really rusty on it.

You can pick up driving a manual in a day. I’m sure you’ll pick it up in less than a handful of tries. Every car is different though, the catch/grab/bite of the clutch can be anywhere, some cars are communicative and you go by feel whilst others have none and you just remember where. My brothers fiesta st lacks said communication and the catch is hella high

Yeah, I think you shift with the Tach, but at some point you 'know' the car and can tell it's in the RPM range to shift?

I'm curious about the Downshift. In a truck Downshifting is a pain in the ass to learn. You have to double-clutch. Or basically clutch to Neutral, Rev the RPMs, then clutch to the lower gear. My understanding is Cars have a Syncronize feature so you don't have to do that.

All modern day cars have synchros, no double clutching needed. You’d have to look for a really old car to find one without one.

Hell you won’t even need to down shift/engine-brake to slow down, I find it more so to be in the right gear to when you take a turn. But again it’s all on feel, you’ll know your limits in time, as you familiarize yourself with a car. Be it with clutch, rpm’s, and engine note. Oh and the shifters will be different with each car. Some are smooth, some are notchy (mustangs/bmws), some you can just beat on into gear(Hondas), some have weird gates that if you shift to fast it’ll pop out of gear or catch in the gate (Toyotas).
