The Watch Dogs Thread!

It defo makes the game more interesting then guns blazing, the only time I've had to break that play style is when I attack CTos centers they give me some trouble.

lol I only realized last night I had a hand brake and started using it and my driving improved.

I've mainly used my silence pistol so far can you unlock silencers for AR aswell?

I haven't fired a single shot taking a CTos center. You can do it all by hacking. It's a fun puzzle

The Driving seems to be built around drifting, lol. It's a good time once you figure this out!

Did you like Assassin's Creed 1 despite feeling a little half-baked? That's what Watch Dogs is like.

I totally disagree with that. Assassins Creed 1 was awful.

I have only just yesterday gotten to hacking my first CTos last night in the main story. I haven't had very much time to play.

Great thing about pc is you can use whatever Contriller you want, xbox 360, xbox one, ds4, ds3. What ever. I've been using an xbox 360 controller for the batman arkham series.
Same with xbox using CronusMax you use whatever controller you want even Wii Mote and don't need to wait for drivers to come out

Yea, a 60 dollar adapter. More than any controller itself. :really: No adapter needed on PC. You also need a seperate program to set it up for use in which you then have to use a PC to configure it to work w/ console. It also says nothing about Wii Mote support, it just says Wii U pro controller.

Cons:
Extremely limited use with PS4. Using with Xbox 360 or Xbox One requires slightly awkward authorization process. Customization tools can be overwhelming.

The game has grown on me since yesterday. Though the controls still feel clunky at times I am enjoying it more. To me it feels like an Assassins Creed/Splinter Cell hybrid, which is cool.

I love this game. I don't get why some reviews said it looked like GTA5 on last gen. I think people's hindsight is better sometimes than thinks actually were. I went back & played GTA5 last night & Watch Dogs on Xbox One looks way better. Especially when you consider the one thing I love about Watch Dogs, it's finally super smooth in a GTA style game. I'm glad they didn't push it so hard, because the game runs better. I appreciate that so much, it no longer feels sluggish like GTA at times or especially Saint's Row.

The only downside of this game is that outside of the main campaign, the side stuff gets repetitive.

Cool to see the x1 versions are getting closer. I struggled to tell the difference in comparison videos.

Good news then. Sounds like X1 is indeed improving on this. Bummer some effects are missing though. Is that only to keep the framerate steady?

Indeed. It's nice to see the gap get reduced. I will be picking this up for X1 hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Based on what I have seen online, the game seems pretty fun, though not some new mind blowing game.

The only thing I really wish it had was AO. It adds much needed depth to flatter lighting situations. As is, it can look very flat, sometimes

Really? Seems like the same difference as usual; lower resolution, pared back effect here and there, ever so slight lower framerate screen tearing. There are better ports than this IMO, Need For Speed, NBA2K14, Wolfenstein (outside of the fact it drops resolution more). Though in the grand scheme of things, the difference between XBO/PS4 is about the same as 360/PS3 in most cases (resolution difference, missing/pared back effects, framerate differences).

Though honestly I think the game would be better served at 720p with the same ambient occlusion and less screen tearing. Would make for a better presentation and honestly I would say that is closer to in parity than an ever so slight resolution increase at the expense of more screen tearing and losing the same AO algorithm.

Debating on doing a free roam stream on Twitch tonight once I get the formula down. Would you guys be interested?

Anyone else playing on hard and finding the fixer missions where you steal a car a real bitch to get through? I'm sure I'm doing it wrong and the driving doesn't help, but I usually end up with a smoking heap at the end if I get that far.

What does Ambient Occlusion exactly do?
Basically the simulation of shadows on textures from the ambient light. Not to be confused with real time directional lighting, AO is static and independent of any light source. It adds depth and realism to a scene.

The driving isn't good by any means but I'd have far less of a problem with it if the camera wasn't so woeful. The camera forgets to turn as you turn corners so you are prone to crashing, if they fixed that it wouldn't be so bad. But anyway, with all the delays and all the downgrade talk my expectations weren't high going into the game but it's a genuinely good game. There is so much stuff to do, there's side missions, collectables and other things in every street to go and unlock and do if that's your thing. The gunplay is solid and there seems to be quite a good variety of stuff to do overall. The online I think could be potentially interesting once Ubi sort their useless servers out. No one has any idea what they're doing in the invasions right now but once people figure it out it could be what keeps people coming back to the game.
Each time someone started hacking me, I still haven't caught them. Its kinda hard.

Someone earlier mentioned that the driving is bad in this game, they weren't kidding. As soon as you start driving I was just turned off. It feels like Saints Row driving model, but worse.
I've driven cars that handle really well and others that suck. I was thinking that it was part of the game mechanic. The first few cars you have to do in the story truly suck!!

It basically just highlights shadows. Think of it as a pencil drawing, you can show where the light transitions are, but shading them right gives a life like look and results in a better overall finish.

yup!

On Topic

Had a good blast with this yesterday, I've taken a different approach with this game. Playing it like Splinter-Cell and minimizing civilian deaths makes the game much more interesting. I had to abort the "2 birds 1 stone" gang hideout mission last night as I kept getting discovered before I could take them out. The driving I am starting to get the hang off, you just can't go flat out all the time. I haven't car jacked a single person yet going for the "Anti Hero" in this.

The hacking has gotten a little stale, so I've being trying to keep that to a minimum.
Gotta agree, my buddy tried to play this like GTA V and just continued to die. I finally took the controller and told him to go home and play V, because he is wasting a good game. I tell you folks, there were times when me and my nephew wanted to reach over and strangle him. :D

Yep handbrake makes all the difference. I also like the animation when you use the handbrake, though it took a few to get use too.

I just tried the free app for this game here at work...shhhh, and it is pretty cool. I had a server connection issue in the middle of my first game, but I definitely see the potential. My buddy at work is downloading now so he can play while he is waiting for his wife at the clinic!!

Yep, I'm looking at Ubi's AC4, seems xb1 made some decent strides in a short time. 720p would have been welcome on xb1 for most I'm sure, considering I can't tell the difference in 792p and 900p, so whats 92p more? not much.

After figuring out that there is a cockpit view for driving, the driving got easier for me. At least I don't have to deal with the camera that won't stay put. Only down side to it is that you can only hack stuff that is directly in front of you.

I don't think anyone would hit that....nasty.

Well to be fair, there was no gap in effects, lighting and screen tearing with AC4 like there is now with WD.

Tried about an hour in, nothing really special attracting me right now. Hopefully it'll pick up.
