Buying next-gen systems is destroying my wallet along with my savings. I haven't spent this much on gaming in years, if ever, since I've never bought 2 next gen systems in 1 year.

You have to resist the urge to get everything at once. I know it's hard but there really is no rush.

Yes you can, see

Perhaps

I still have my gamertag, hell it's the only reason I even bother to log into Xbox.com every few months.

I also received another trophy...my ascension continues.

It would be a great option if they let you change you gamertag for free when you upgrade to xbox one

I'd be down for a free name change. I've recently been contemplating changing mine so I'd hold out if I knew I was getting it for free.

Major Nelson posts pic of very first XB1 off the Assembly line on its way to TGS

geek.com just put out an article saying the X1 are not only unfinished, but developers are negative towards console. Day1 updates required. I hope this isn't true.

At this point, I'm entirely convinced some are just jumping on the hate bandwagon.

X1 isn't unfinished, it started final production over a week ago, with retail units being shipped out. Day 1 update was already known, they said there would be one as there is always a disconnect between finalizing hardware and finalizing software.

I suppose Microsoft is much to blame for that hate though. They simply made way too many mistakes. They failed to accurately predict the PlayStation 4's specs, allowing for them to take a huge power advantage. They failed to realize that Kinect was an incredibly unpopular part of the system that drove up the cost of the system by way too much, and they failed to accurately predict the reaction to their DRM policies (there was plenty of evidence it wasn't going to go over well).

Mattrick made himself look like a complete fool before he left, and then he takes 5 million dollars on a new job and leaves the Xbox division of Microsoft in shambles.

Microsoft is truly better off without him.

Yeah MS warranted the blame around E3, but since then they made some big changes to try and turn things around. The hate kind of died off, now it seems that these sites are trying to stew it back up again..guess the hate mongering is good for business? Honestly, all this back and forth needs to stop, especially so called journalists quoting unnamed sources, wait until november and let the consoles and the games do the talking.

It's good for hits on websites apparently. I guess wars stimulate economies, right?
Anyways, did anyone catch this? Maybe a misprint?

I'm not hating, I hope you realize this. If anything in the biggest fanboy around. I am seeing nothing coming out positive for the X1, and I still have it paid off with games, controllers, and charge n play kits. I'm still holding out on two things. 1 there is truth to the NDA rumors. 2 my gut. Its what got me getting an original Xbox on launch day, and I haven't jumped ship yet.

Xbox One is not going to fail. It's just not going to take number 1 spot in sales. At least, not the first (and probably second) year. There will be time for them to catch up though. And when Microsoft sees it is behind, they are competitive enough (and rich enough) to take measures to rectify it.

Thing is, they are not going to win by playing Sony's game. They need to change their strategy if they are going to win. Nintendo won last generation by playing the casual crowd. I'm not saying that is what Xbox should do, but they need to release something (like with the Kinect) that really makes people go "wow, I'd really like to try that!".

Additionally, they need to keep making deals with third party's. I think it is really good for Xbox to have "Xbox, the official console of the NFL" with exclusive content, apps, and games. Stuff like that might win over a few hundred thousand casual football gamers.

I would also suggest at least one Megaton in the hardcore gaming world. For example: Half-Life 3: Exclusively for PC and Xbox One. That alone would cause the internet (and places like Neogaf) to explode. Problem is they would need to improve their relationship with Valve. It's just an example though.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. And while I agree this would be one helluva sit back and eat popcorn megaton, I don't see that happening given Gabe's well known distaste for all things Microsoft.

Like I said, just an example. I only mentioned that because I joked about it in another thread. But it could be anything. Like the next Bioshock, the next GTA or Red Dead, just something like that.

EDIT: Well, probably (definitely) not GTA.

Yeah, exclusive next gen RDR would cause serious meltdowns, same with HL3 if that were to ever happen. I think it could be easily be done by securing Titanfall as an exclusive IP (unlikely I know), or even just some more deep down tech talks about the balancing and optimization of the hardware and how it will compete with raw power.

I can only assume the un-finished stuff is to do with development tools or something and day 1 patch was announced ages ago.

On the sales side I think XB1 will do fine.

They have the NFL to cover for the US, they need to sign a soccer deal for the UK and Europe and just keep adding more value to the console to try and bring down the price difference.

Also would u pay $5-$10 more for Xbox Gold+ where we get 5 or so games a month to keep as long as you have a sub?

I would easily pay $10 more if games with gold became a regular thing but only if they could guarantee quality newish games, similar to PS+

Also, as far as sales go, my personal estimate is over 2 million by the end of the year. If they could secure similar deals with the NHL and Soccer in Europe (not sure the league names) then it would be great for serious sports fans, along with getting ESPN and Yahoo fantasy leagues in X1

This is not a direct comparison, but Digital Foundry attempted to replicate each system's specs using PC. And posted a comparison vid:

This leads me to believe that, while PS4 has an advantage. It won't be so much as to completely blow away the Xbox.

Also Code optimization, engines, hardware specifics ( some unknown at the moment) and other things in the software side, like the drivers and API's can level the field or close the gap more.

I hope that GTA 5 on Xbox One is real-life.

I'm currently on pass-mode until it comes to PC/PS4/One.

I cancelled my GTA pre-order because I may be able to get it early tomorrow. So I'm hoping that comes through. If not I'll just go buy it from a store on official release day. Might even go to a midnight launch.

I was in when it was first announced and i am still in now. Mind you i did not agree with everything they wanted to do. That cover of Edge and all the bad press hasn`t swayed me. I have both the 360 and the ps3 but i mainly play my 360 so the decision was easy for me. With that said no matter which console everyone picks as their day one buy i hope they enjoy it.

Microsoft treats their consoles much the same way they treat Windows. They are never satisfied; it's a work-in-progress that they are always tweaking, and it is NEVER finished. They are always looking for ways to enhance and improve the experience. It's just the way they operate. They don't consider their devices as off line, off the shelf merchandise. During the course of the lifetime of a Microsoft console, the playing experience evolves and changes. It's who they are; it's who WE are. Xbox One: BAD TO THE BONE.

Yeah, that's pretty close, and I expect that difference to shorten over time. It will be a very close generation in terms of games. Exclusives will play a major part this time around

A meaningless comparison using hypothetical hardware configurations and assumptions manufactured from whole cloth. I think when we see real XB1 graphics on a retail console, it will knock our socks off.
