The Xbox Onesie

maybe one of u gfx tech heads can answer this,

Was thinking about the horizon world map, could you take the car out and replace it with a character to walk freely around? This map would be huge to walk around.

only asking is horizon 2 is 1080p and open world and has a lot going on. Could this give Witcher 3 and other games a glimmer of hope of achieving 1080p too?

You will have to walk for a VERY long time - the map in FH2 is LARGE.
but yes, oc you can have sweet 1080pee in open world games, it's up to the lazy devs, many of the cross-platform studios still use old DX 9/10 based engines. In a year or two most of them should have upgraded their engines though.

Witcher 3 runs on an old engine, "REDengine 3", announced in the beginning of 2013, so it's most probably 2011
/2012 tech.

Plex is coming tomorrow!

For now, being a Plex Pass subscriber is the only way you'll be able to use the company's new Xbox One app. It's free to subscribers at launch, and will be made available for a one-time fee to everyone else at a later date. Further, the Xbox 360 version of Plex isn't ready quite yet; it's coming "very soon."

Free if you're a Plex Pass subscriber. If you aren't a subscriber you'll need to wait until a later date and you'll also need to pay for the app.

I just got the WD My Book 4TB external drive this weekend at Best Buy for $149.99. My Xbox One HDD was at 91% full, so the odds of squeezing one more game on it was slim to none. I moved everything from my X1 HDD to my new external HDD. The X1 now has 1.7% used, and my new HDD has 8% used. So 4.5TB of space should keep me busy for awhile, I hope.

Oh hell yeah on all of that. I'll look into Plex Pass again (didn't sound worth it when I installed Plex Server a while back), but I can probably wait until the one time fee deal. Awesome that an app for 360 is coming as well. Ultimately, I'm looking to replace use of 360s as MCEs but until there's some thing that plays WTV files (of course I'd like this to be as legal as possible as these are files I've recorded off of my cable system and view through WMC/MCE) that's going to be tough. I actually really like WMC/MCE setup in general but the arbitrary limitations on file size and format for the 360 is a huge PITA now that we are deeper into the Blu-ray era. Was doable when ripping DVD collection to digital but not feasible for Blu-ray. If I can replace the necessity for MCE, I can get rid of one 360 and get an X1 for the bedroom! (first world problem solved!!) ;)

that will do fine

The problem is, i can't find out what the speed of the thing is and that's a shame. I mean, if the game booting speed and all that doesn't necessarily improve too much, i am good with that, for a price like this, but it shouldn't be worse.

You shouldn't worry, it will do fine. The HD thing has been tested and discussed in other threads, and there isn't that much difference. I got two ext HDD for my X1, one is a VERY FAST SSD disc, but it aint worth the high price.

your Samsung D3 Station 3TB got a 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 (Barracuda 7200.14 series) inside which is fine, and it will be a little faster than the internal X1 HDD. I doesn't got any spin down settings for energy saving though, but that's ok, it's a cheap
HDD which gives great bang-for-the-buck

Have you guys seen this?

Assassin's Creed Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One
http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/assas...y_is_900p_30fps_on_both_ps4_and_xbox_one.html

Now what's strange for 900p is that they are saying it's because the game is CPU bound and that GPUs are plenty powerfull.

To me a solution would be to use 4cu for gpgpu on ps4 and cloud on xbox, but I'll bet you that it's more than that and that bandwidth is the actual issue. If it's CPU bound DX12 could help in that aspect but it won't be there for games release.

Direct X 11.3 will start using some of those features and it's supposed to come out around early november iirc.

in the linked article the developer isnt being limited graphically, it is the AI that is absorbing so much of the computing cycles.

So I've gotten like 10 updates the past 2 weeks and now close to a full day after buying NBA 2k15, the download is at f***ing 5%. What the f*** is going on with my X1? I'm getting really pissed off.

You reboot it any time recently? The full reboot (hold power down for 10 seconds wait for power supply light to go orange.)

Done that a couple of times now. At least the updates have been relatively small, 200-400 MB.

I turned INSTANT ON off and went back to ENERGY SAVER mode. Less hassle. I was having to reboot the dang thing anyway with the Instant On. The only caveat is I now turn on my XB1 an hour or so before I am gonna play to get the updates...

Unfortunately it's not exclusive to just the Xbox console. I think it is just the nature of the beast with all this high tech and multitasking and complexity of all these new gaming machines.
Yeah, I get that but it would be nice if MS added some "self-healing" type stuff so that less savvy users wouldn't get frustrated (or even more savvy users). Another thing MS could do is put a schedule in the X1 settings to say "hard reboot every X days" or a specific day of the week/month, etc.

There will be a new Phil interview posted today around 2 p.m. EST for anyone interested. Possibly some new DX12 info but I won't hold my breath:

"So there's an interview with Phil Spencer being release tomorrow on "The Inner Circle's" YouTube channel in the form of a podcast. Apparently they're Xbox fans also in association with XboxMAD, an Xbox focused news outlet. There has also been a lot of talk over this interview by individuals such as MisterxMedia as well as other "insiders" as seen here: #1 and #2. What's interesting about all this is that some of these guys have been hinting at big news being dropped in this interview.. here and here. This is legitimate, and you can also check that Phil Spencer is following The Inner Circle as well. I look forward to the bombs dropping..

MisterxMedia is apparently not affiliated with The Inner Circle. I jumped to the assumption after seeing the tweets exchanged between the two. Regardless, as said above, these rumors of bombs being dropped are coming from these "insiders"."

My X1 always updates in the background, mostly in the nights when it's off, "Instant On" mode, never having trouple

You're in the Dashboard preview and Microsoft wants to get it ready for launch so they're releasing heaps of updates.

If you don't like beta testing the dashboard, don't beta test the dashboard.

More gaming rumors

http://thecutanddry.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/round-2.html

  1. David Cage initially wasn't going to sign with Sony after completion of Heavy Rain to publish what became Beyond : Two Souls, hence why post release in numerous interviews he would tout Heavy Rains better than expected sales, he was trying to sell himself to other publishers. None of them were interested, Sony bit because they didn't have many exclusives and Quantic Dream had no choice.
  2. Microsoft uses Ryse as a performance benchmark internally. Presently - post SDK improvements -the game is topping at a variable 50-60fps at 900p, the team believes it could crack a"mostly locked" 60fps at 1080p by the middle of next year.
  3. Evolution Studios is going to suffer significant layoffs in 4-5 months time. This is due to lukewarm reception and the extended troubled development of Driveclub (in addition to lack of direction with the last two motorstorm games). If the studio survives, it's likely going to be re-focused to small digital titles.
  4. There is definitely going to be a Gears of War collection released in late 2015 similar to the Master Chief collection, though the visuals will merely be updated and tweaked, this won't be a full on remake (ala Anniversary), but will include a Beta to Gears of War 4 (due November 15th 2016) and a cross-game lobby of ALL Gears of War game maps.
  5. Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End will no longer be shipping with split-screen campaign co-op due to technical issues.
  6. Halo Wars is definitely coming back. Microsofts intention is for the series to act as bridges between mainline Halo games, effectively replacing/accompanying Spartan Ops type expansions. Full voice and Kinect support accompany controller based gameplay.
  7. Sony is planning PS4 games to release on Playstation Now, the initial intention is to give a 12-18 month exclusivity window for the native PS4 versions.
  8. Microsoft have a similar timed exclusivity window with 2 as yet unannounced third party publisher(s?) as they have with The Rise of the Tomb Raider. One new IP, the other existing. The existing one is a much bigger deal than Tomb Raider.
  9. Scalebound has Online co-op along the lines of a multiplayer Shadow of the Collossus
  10. Microsoft is monitoring Forza Horizons impact as an IP, in the event of franchise fatigue they have the option of reverting to a Project Gotham Title.
