Key Gameplay Updates:

  • Touch Gloves: Users will now have the ability to manually make their fighter touch gloves (or choose not to touch gloves) before beginning to fight by pressing L2 on PS4 or LT on Xbox One. This can be done at the start of every round, or anytime the ref stands the fighters up.
  • Finish the Fight: During a knockout, the attacking fighter can jump on their downed opponent and “finish the fight” by delivering extra strikes as the knockout occurs.
  • Sprawls: The defending fighter now sprawls when successfully defending against a power takedown.
  • Clinch Break from the Cage: Fighters now have the ability to break out of a clinch when pressed against the fence by pressing the L3 button.
  • Power Takedowns and Sweeps: Power takedowns and side control sweeps have been removed from fighters who would not normally have them.
  • Stamina: Stamina no longer regenerates if the user holds block. The user will also take a larger stamina penalty if hit while weak blocking.
  • Sweep Defense: The dominant fighter in the Full Guard position now has a larger window to reverse the Full Guard sweep to Mount.

Maybe they made the decision early to hold these guys back for free content. I bet at the time they had no idea Dillashaw would be champ!

You're probably right, they may have decided on the roster a year or more ago. No one had a clue either guy would go on such an amazing streak at that point.
 
The second free update for the game, this latest download adds welterweight fighters Matt 'The Immortal' Brown and Mike 'Quicksand' Pyle, as well as heavyweight fighter, Stipe Miocic.
The second content update not only includes three new fighters, but also adds the following key gameplay additions and tweaks:
  • Manual Taunts: Players will now be able to add insult to injury with a well-placed taunt. Pressing Left or Right on the directional pad will cause a fighter to taunt their opponent mid-bout.
  • Kick Catching: Players will now have the ability to catch opponents’ kicks during parries if the attacking fighter has low stamina or high leg-damage when throwing the kick. If the parry button is held, a takedown will be initiated.
  • Single Leg into Half Guard: Successful basic Single Leg Takedowns will now end up in Half Guard.
  • Stamina: Stamina loss on Strikes Landed has been adjusted.
 
I finally dug into this game with my brother this weekend, and I've got to say it's pretty fantastic. There is so much detail, and a collision system that puts every other game in existence to shame. Each fighter feels different even if the core move-set is similar too. Solid, solid game. They really need to fix the VS menus though. Having to drop back to the main menu just to change characters is archaic.

Am I the only one wants some fantasy rings? It doesn't matter at all what venue you go to- they all look the same to me. I want a ring on the top of a mountain or something, lol, just to mix it up. They should also allow the practice rings too. It IS still a video game after-all. They could even have a mode that only gives you real venues if you want the Uber-realism.
 
Sadly EA will never add any OTT looking arenas but it would be cool.
