I mean....call me crazy......It looks amazing. But watching it, I wasn't sitting here thinking "There is no way that is possible!"
It was the full power of the PS4 thrown at a single character model in a limited environment. I find no reason to believe that couldn't be done in realtime.

Yes, I agree. I watched the trailer again and realized that "hey, this can actually be done!" It's probably a cutscene or level transition in the game. In that case, gameplay graphics won't be far off.

I don't think anyone is saying it can't be done on PS4.. what people are saying is, there is little to no chance Nathan is going to look anywhere near that detailed once you actually control him.

The teaser is beautiful to be sure, but let's not forget E3 builds tend to trend way above what we actually see in the end

Thats par for the course though and to be expected. It should be reasonably close.

I mean, Ryse pulled of seamless transition from cinematics to gameplay pretty well.

If it looks majorly different to the game its going to be jarring considering it transitions to actually playing, i dare say theres a good chance it looks pretty damn close.
I agree. Hopefully they can get it seamlessly close like Ryse did. I don't see why they couldn't.

Agreed. It hasn't happened yet, and I would guess it never will. Happens with every game.

f***ing ridiculous anymore.. The trailer said it was done on PS4 and ND themselves said it was real time. The trolling is rampant wth

I don't like Flynn's trolling and hypocrisy, but he's probably right that Uncharted 4's cutscenes will be pre-rendered movie clips.

Uncharted 4 will look fantastic but don't expect anything a 1.84TF GPU can't possibly produce in realtime at 1080p 60 fps. Especially not during actual gameplay.

Love seeing the "Show ignored content" message at the bottom of a Sony thread. Just lets me know there is a butthurt Xbro crying.

<Lingering digression>I'm still not sold on the messaging of the supposed "confirmation" that it's rendered in real-time, and real-time 60fps frame rate, but I guess we'll have to wait until the game ships, and I can see the compression artifacts of a 'movie' for me to be able to prove it's pre-rendered like nearly all other ND cinematics... but enough of the digressions from me. :)

<Off topic>And BTW - My sincere apologies to Sony/UC fans in this thread. I know how I come across to some of you, but I don't have evil intentions, I promise... I may be a stubborn, biased, even fanatical-like forum poster at times, but I'm a gamer at heart... and I don't like stirring the pot. I like engaging conversations... and I think sometimes those can be off-putting... but I don't like dissention, name calling, or personal jabs of any kind. I actually love that Phil Spencer mentioned Nintendo and Sony as "friends" of ours, and trying to set the tone for us gamers to stop bickering and hating on each other, and start realizing that we all have the same goals. We all want great games at the right price, new and innovative experiences, etc... and you can't get to that if there ain't competition... and it's gotta' STIFF competition... and I think that's what we've got this gen. I'm more excited for gaming this gen than I've been in a long time. I think we gamers are going to really win, and win big time.

<Back on topic> I loved UC3 (SP), and UC4 very well could be a reason to pick up another PS4... until then, I'll be keeping an eye on this one...

The more I think about how awesome inFamous looks for an open world game and the more I see of The Order and how incredible it looks during gameplay the more I think ND will likely get UC4 to look at least very close to that scene they showed. Hell look at how good open world 3rd party games are looking, AC Unity and Batman look insanely good and those have much bigger areas that are explorable than any UC game would.

This report from GamingBolt.com suggests that the Uncharted 4 trailer is indeed running in real-time - a simply phenomenal achievement. We've studied the video in a little more depth and have concluded that it's definitely running at native 1080p resolution (as opposed to being rendered at a very high resolution, then scaled down - a process known as super-sampling). Small clipping anomalies, a touch of specular aliasing on Nate's shirt as he sits up, along with some shadow aliasing on his forehead also suggest a real-time render. On the face of it, we're still looking at some pretty incredible anti-aliasing here for a real-time technique on a game running at 60fps, particularly when it comes to the perfect, artefact-free rendering of Nate's hair - but the combination of the low contrast setting, slow camera movement, motion blur and depth of field would work well generally in making aliasing much less of an issue.

Remember the Agni's Philosophy demo, and then look at this game. What ND is doing for the PS4 is not entirely outside of reason. Though I still wish Agni's Philosophy was a real game. :(

I don't think it is that far out of the question for this to be real-time.

Look at Halo 4's real-time cutscenes, absolutely mindblowing and still impressive to this day... the actual game didn't hold that fidelity at all and it wasn't even almost close, but it goes to show that maybe graphics like this aren't that far out of the realm of possibility, especially considering the leap in power/technology from 360 to PS4.

Uncharted 4 may be the last one in the series. I have a good feeling about this. Hopefully it closes with an epic bang.

"Speaking to IGN, Nolan North explained that as far as he's aware this is the last title that Naughty Dog want to do in the series, and admitted he hopes no one else tries to continue the story without the studio.

It’s bittersweet but at a certain point you want to go out on top," North told me. "If this is the last one indeed, and I believe it’s the last one - nothing’s confirmed, but I believe it’s the last one Naughty Dog wants to do, in which case I hope somebody else doesn’t pick up the mantle because they’ve done it so well for so long - but yeah, it’s one of those things where you just have to cross that bridge when you get to it."

It might be possible, then again
Richard Diamant, Naughty Dog's Lead Character Artist, told Gamezine; "Yes, the trailer was all rendered real-time in our engine."

They said the same thing about Uncharted 2 and in the final game, the cutscenes were all pre-rendered.

ND isn't really trustworthy in this.

ND and Sony have very poor track records with regards to over-promising to the point of actually lying... So it's still quite possible that they're leveraging such tactics this time as well.

Of course, ND also has a VERY strong track record for producing top notch visuals, and fantastic games.

"No, it is definitely real-time, (as my post yesterday might hint) I had one of their devs explicitly confirm to me yesterday that it is running in real time, on a single PS4 and not pre-recorded.

Beginning with Uncharted 4, all Naughty Dog games will feature completely in engine, real time, 3D cutscenes (if they even stay cutscenes anymore), a huge performance departure from what they used to ship."

"All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine. That’s Nathan Drake rendered in 1080p full glory using the power of our PS4 engine. All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine. We’re targeting 60fps for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and as you can see the visual fidelity for our character models will reach new heights. In fact, thanks to the power of the PS4, right now Drake’s Uncharted 4 model is over double the polygons of Joel from The Last of Us PS3."

Sorry to bust your bubbles but this can't be spun a different way then what it is.

Well the big question is, if were real time, why not do a very simple demo of it running with all the physics and AI? I mean you already know people are going to question it because it doesn't show gameplay. I have no doubt it will look amazing though.

Yes it is real time, excuse me, i understand that, I just mean not actual game visuals though
