What movies have you seen recently?

I think the pandemic and lack of movies has broken our Plainview.

Reminiscence: MEH

Tries to be Blade Runner, with the Noir and world-building, but lacks the literal and figurative grittiness in the world. Rips off a plot point from The Watchmen TV series. Some fun concepts get played out however, and Jackman's performance is good.

Seemed oddly low budget. Perhaps I would've felt differently if I'd watched it in theaters?

Reminiscence - Was ok.

The Green Knight - Found it boring.

Red Heat - Love it. God I miss those old movie sound effects.

New Guy - I had fun watching this movie even with the cringe every once and awhile. 7/10

Reminiscence - horrible pacing. I liked what the story was trying to do but the way it was put together was boring. I literally got up before it was over to brush my teeth because I would rather get ready for bed than watch the movie.

Do you mean "Free Guy"?

Free Guy - Fun movie! I was laughing out loud several times and there were some good action scenes. I enjoyed the story too, especially as a gamer. Some people I went with thought there was too much love story but I didn’t mind.

Snake Eyes - Oh dear lord, I didn’t hate it as aceattorney but it wasn’t great that’s for sure. Snake Eyes sucks in this movie. I mean it must take almost no ability to become a Hollywood script writer because the flaws in his character were obvious as hell. He was essentially the villain lol!

My other complaint is the silly action scenes. Some of the action worked, but there was a lot of bad guys killed by the heroes just slashing in their general direction. It was just so goofy it took me out of the movie

Candyman (2021) - I enjoyed this quite a bit, though it's not perfect and not all that scary (for me). Ties to the original a considerable amount, even with some stylistic nods, which I loved. Extremely good cinematography with some beautiful shots, I saw this in an XD theater and assume this is going to look fantasti on 4KUHD. I can see why some people didn't like it, but I thought it was well done and enjoyable. Easily the best sequel in the franchise for my tastes.

Side note, this was the first thing I've seen in theaters since before the pandemic. There were only about 10 total people in my theater, yet two of them still thought it was acceptable to talk throughout the entire movie. A sad reminder of why I hadn't really been in any rush to see things in the theater again. The XD theater looked and sounded great, but it still didn't look as good as it likely would have at my house and I never would have had the annoying distractions. Additionally, I forgot how terrible the commercials are that the big theater chains force you sit through. The movie didn't start until LITERALLY 30 minutes after the start time listed on the tickets, we had to sit through an obscene number of idiotic product commercials and trailers for TV shows before we got to the movie trailers. Such an annoying way to waste ticket buyers' time and trap them into unwanted advertising. Can't help but feel like big movie theater chains are going to go the way of the movie rental store due to their refusal to update their format. In the days when we can skip past opening credits by default when watching at home, why are you wasting your customers' time with crap you know they don't want to see?

Is Tony Todd involved in this much? Or it almost on a cameo level?

Primarily some very brief cameos, but they're timed pretty well. I was happy when he finally appeared. The movie is MUCH more of a sequel to the original than I was expecting, which was really cool.

Last Action Hero - Am I the only one that enjoys this film? Haven’t seen it in many years. Feel like even watching it now it was just ahead of its time. Critics and audiences just didn’t get it. So many moments that make you smile lol had a good time rewatching it tonight on HBO Max.

I just watched it for the first time in decades 3 or 4 weeks ago, I enjoyed it as well.

Just watched the Director's Cut of Doctor Sleep. 30 mins longer (3 hours total), has some cool moments that add to the experience, but I probably prefer the quicker pacing of the theatrical version. Regardless, still a great movie and solid sequel to both the film and book versions of The Shining.

I was surprised how good that sequel was (Dr Sleep). A decades later sequel done right.

I love it. I gave it a 9 on IMDb.

Shang-Chi: just okay

Some great fight scenes, but I expected more from this movie.

Edit: Upon further consideration, the best parts of this movie are about the lives of Asian Americans. There are nuanced scenes that are rarely portrayed in Western films. The main villain delivers the best performance in the film. Lastly, I was not a fan of the similarities to Black Panther.

I did not enjoy the mythological creatures whatsoever. Also, has there been any discussion as to whether this film has any connection to Iron Fist?

Direct sequel to the first one and ignores those after.
