What do you think? Does this game have the power and appeal to help continue to move PS4 systems? if yes/no what does it depend on.

I'd say, it has a chance to push systems, but only if the visual increase is very evident and builds a bit of hype.

I'm actually going to assume the texture/polygon detail is quite a bit better than the Ps3 version.

polygon on characters
texture detail in the world that is, may have the same polygon count, but higher overall as the background doesn't falter maybe (at distances)

I'm going to assume like many games, the actual assets are much higher than what the original system was able to produce, so I'm expecting a decent increase in this game.

With that said, I'm going to think with this game hitting.. it's probably going to help push PS4's that may have otherwise set just a little longer.

With the launch line up, the ps4 line up was pretty poor, but with infamous, tlou, mlb and hopefully DC on the way, sony finally has a decent line up to make the ps4 purchase worth it, and that is why I think PS4's will be pushed by this game, not cause of this game alone though, it's the overall combo.

****Yes, mods. I understand this is a tlou thread, but I want to discuss this topic.. if no one likes it.. I'm sure it will burn and crash into the pit of your servers. I'd like to think we can talk multiple ideas about some game sometimes and not lose that focus in a thread about the game atleast.. hopefully :) This isn't in the MS section, so we have a chance

No.

Dont get me wrong. The game is amazing, and I look forward to playing it again. But its not going to be a system seller. Most people who wanted to play it have played it.

I personally don't think the PS4 really needs a push right now. It's selling phenomenally. I think this game is going to serve mostly as a bridge for PS4 owners.

I do think as this game hits the ps4 will need more of a push to continue it's current sales performance atleast.

I think a lot of people waited for this very idea, I did. I could have bought the game many times for about 30, but had no desire as I believed very strongly a PS4 version was coming, it's just too easy to port those higher assets in a year. Turned out, my idea was right.

I would be surprised if it didn't sell a million by the end of the summer.

yup. lots of 360-only owners who are waiting in the wings will find this to be a tipping point, and even ps3 owners may find it a good time to jump in by getting an upgraded version of an amazing game (they wouldve bought the ps4 eventually but this will definitely be a nice bridge at a good time). good move by sony to get this game out in a reasonable timeframe.

i wouldnt under estimate the importance of having a title like this hit at the right time (in the fairly barren summer, before the influx of winter hitters)

No. Even with all the over-hype, I think the people who wanted to play it most likely did. 6 millions sales for this kind of game is amazing. I'm sure many of the current PS4 owners will double dip though. Especially if it comes with all the DLC.

I think it's not a system seller but it will push more consoles because many 360 only owners haven't played the game yet so there is still a chance this remastered version would be able to sway them into getting a PS4.

Timing is something I agree with completely, won't be a lot of big titles coming and having this (hype) plus people wanting to buy into that could prove to push it perhaps.

On the flip side, you could have people also not caring to buy a game console because they want to go out, swimming etc

No. Like someone else said, anyone that wanted to play it, would have done so already. If it moves any units, the amount will be so minute, that it won't matter.

Not sure about it selling consoles, I have no doubt they'll sell a lot of copies of the game though.

It can't hurt -- gives people one more reason to buy -- but by itself it's not enough. Of course, you could say that for just about any good, exclusive game.

Speaking for myself, it'll help push me to buy a PS4 this summer, rather than wait until the Fall. So it won't sell me a system, but it'll help to persuade me to buy one a little earlier than I would have otherwise.

Ill definitely be buying a copy.

But it sold 6 Million copies to a user base of 80 million+, the numbers just arent in its favor.
I think It might push people who were planning on buying a PS4 at some point anyway might be pushed to get one a bit earlier. But its not going to push systems. If the PS3 version didnt reel them in, a slightly prettier version isnt going to either.

Naughty Dog mentioned that they werent going to build a new engine for the PS4 right away and that they would stick with this one. So it makes sense for them to make some extra cash since they were porting the engine to the PS4 anyway.

The engine was way ahead of its time anyways. ;)

I dont disagree. Naughty Dog knows how to get the most out of a system.

Reasonable number with most of them being double dippers IMO.

They really should have exclusive content "release it later on ps3" or something.

Or add something that was sort of technically impossible with the engine, larger area, or some cool water river thing with some new ND water tech or something. That would push people over the edge imo

if they have to release a remake of a game that came out last year tells me that the PS4 will struggle with 1st party games coming out this year.

Saying that I never had a ps3 and wanted to play the game so If I get the chance to buy a PS4 at xmas time I will pick it up :)

Isn't Halo 2 Anniversary also coming out for the Xbox One this year. Does this also mean the Xbox One will struggle with 1st party games coming out this year?

It's a pretty unsubstantiated comment to make.

Nah. Sony just does a good job of repackaging their games. I don't think them releasing this is any indication of a slow year for software. Perfect for the slow summer months though.

Plus why not repackage one of the best games of last generation?

Halo 2 hasn't been announced and its a 10yr old game. LOU came out last year still fresh and now getting an update already. so yeh ill stand by my comment for now. Im sure we'll get The Order and Drive club soon enough.

The game is gorgeous already. It just needs AA. I could only imagine how better it would look in 1080p on the PS4.

Isn't that worse? If Halo 2 Anniversary, a 10 year old game remake, gets announced this year for E3, are you going to eat your words and say that this will also apply to the Xbox One? For some reason, I think you'd change your tune.

In the same sense, Tomb Raider: DE came out this year, which is a remake of the 2013 one, does this mean the PS4 and Xbox One's 3rd party support is lackluster? No.

Ill eat my words if halo 2 comes out this year with only 1 or 2 other 1st party games. Anyway I think you are taking my statement way over context. Naughty Dogs has to be one of sony best devs, I just think by releasing this game they don't have anything ready for awhile.

If only halo 2 came out this year and not Halo 5 then I think both companies have made a big mistake.

They have two teams working on the PS4 right now. One is working on the remastered version of TLoU and the other on Uncharted 4. So I'm sure you'll see Uncharted next year maybe around Fall time.

Sure repackaging the game fills a void for Sony. But so what? Many haven't played it or will buy a prettier version a of a great game.

A Halo 2 remake is a perfect time killer for when Halo 5 eventually releases.

Honestly, I think Sony would have wanted this as a PS4 exclusive from the get go, but the PS3 user base couldn't be ignored. The 6 million sales proved they made the right choice. Plus, we have seen how well games like Tomb Raider have done once ported to current gen, So this makes sense for Sony to do, and it isn;t at the cost of PS4 development either....So, win win :)

Cracks me up when I read complaints online (shocking I know) about the game being full price. It's improved graphically and includes the DLC that was $15.00, why is that wrong? Tomb Raider was worth full price and this is too IMO.

Honestly, it shouldn't be full price. A port is significantly less costly than building a game from the ground up. IMO, these games should be half the price of normal(so $30), plus the cost of DLC at discounted price( so $10) giving a price of around $40-$45(£30) that IMO would be fair all round.
