Background music is still disappointing. It's the only thing they haven't gotten right yet with the ecosystem. Hopefully the community keeps the pressure on.

All we can hope for now is that USB listening comes quickly now that they have got the feature integrated and working.

So its not up yet?

The feature/update yes. Any app to listen to background music nope. The only app that currently works is that podcast app called Cast.

Yeah the update enabled the ability to. Apps need to be updated to allow it.

Groove does it and Pandora is being updated to do it. I imagine you'll see more 3rd party apps support it soon.

Updated? I can't even see Pandora on the App Marketplace.

I saw the official WHATS NEW with the August update on the Xbox dashboard, and they said it includes the ability to play music from USB. Must need to enable something yet?

Groove for background music still doesnt work for me

Nothing works yet.

Pandora will be the first to enable it, and other apps like Groove will follow on.

Stuff like USB streaming will come later too.

So, the patch to play music doesn't even do anything yet? Disappointing. Why is it so difficult to get something like this set up?

Think its a problem with store....i have seen a bunch of people using Groove with it. But some don't have option yet. Is everyone sure they got the update here? lol

I definitely got the update. I forced it to update. I can't play any music. I try to play music from an app and as soon as I go into game it shuts off (if I can do it, I don't know how)

For some reason the apps are not ready even though the system have the update to do so.

But Groove has been confirmed updated...so its a bit confusing.

Anyway, app came out that allows you to play off a USB stick.

Finally! I am racing in Forza with my own music! The Simple player works, although no random play it seems even! :really:

How is Groove relative to Spotify? I like Spotify but I notice Groove has a lot of bands that Spotify doesn't (Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, etc).

My big issue is the PS only does Spotify of course so that complicates things.

I used to use Groove specifically for xbox usage but Spotify is so far ahead of the android app that I couldn't justify it anymore. Its getting better though.

Thanks for the info on the android app too. I use that as well. I'll probably hold off as it looks like the apps are getting updated quickly. "Soon" is a relative term and we've been waiting for this feature forever. I was actually very angry on launch day when I got my X1 and couldn't play music. Years later and we're just starting to get it? Oh well, at least it is here.

I'm playing my old custom soundtrack I used in FM2 for nostalgia's sake :)

what about Pandora?

Nothing works for me yet except the simple music player. Pandora needs an update and so does Groove.

I am not in the preview program too so not sure if that changes things.

The simple music player is bare bones basic. It looks like it was thrown together in an hour. It works, but barely.

I am in the preview program and it makes no difference.

I tried out the Simple Music Player this morning and it was alright. It just played all my music in one huge playlist though. Can you not play a specific album only?

As far as I can tell, it just plays whatever mp3s you have, in order (alphabetical?) and there's not even random play. So basically you have to load what you want on the usb drive each time. With no random play there's no point loading more than an album or two.

Oh and also it does not like you switching songs on the usb drive. I actually had to restart my whole console.

Something that is bothering me.......IF One S is the new base model with the different hard drive SKU's........Scorpio is a 'hard core gamer' console for the Elite crowd.....

What happens in the next true generation update and when will that be in this time frame??? Will they every two years update the One S and Scorpio line with new SKU's ? Is that the business model now?

Looking at us folks with mobile contracts and how we now update every two years do you think that Microsoft will go for this XBOX model? Hardware you pay for every month and every two years your contract is upgraded to the new model? Up front small hardware cost and then console and Xbox live is a 'contract'.......

its not going to be every 2 years. They just use that as an example. 4 is more realistic.

I don't think you will see a next true generation update. When the next console hits the Scorpio will be the base Sku and the new model for the Elite crowd.

ok I see the logic.....so in 2019 they will release a new Scorpio much in the same way the One S has replaced the base SKU and so on.....
