Xbox One and PS4 will "sell a ton," online hate "needs to go away" Microsoft says

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xb...needs-to-go-away-microsoft-says/1100-6417197/

Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb says both consoles are off to a solid start; encourages gamers to celebrate the industry's vibrancy rather than spew hate at one another.

Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will "sell a ton," so you shouldn't waste your time bickering with one another about platform superiority, Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has argued.

"Both new platforms are off to a great start. We all should be celebrating a healthy, vibrant industry," Hryb said on Reddit (via OXM). "Sony has done a good job and they should be commended. The hate that infects gaming in the online space needs to go away. Sony will sell a ton. We will sell a ton. The industry is doing well...and consumers have choice."

He is right though. I think it hurts the industry's image in the public eye.

Most of the focus of Xbox One over the years will be the apps/services anyways. I feel deep down like I should have just bought a high powered PC instead honestly. It just sucks all my friends are on Xbox Live. There's potential for the system there, but it already feels out-dated to me at times.

Either way, this article is about the both consoles selling well & they both will over time. They are already off to a good start.

I never understand the hate people have, especially for MS. It isn't just PS fanboys either, but many who actually own an Xbox will still hate on MS constantly!

Meh, last gen was years of PS hate. It's MS's turn.

But yeah, both will sell tons, and both will have awesome games. Empty wallet is confirmed.

He is right. They are both good gaming machines.
Just the usual 'Plastic Corp' defending their purchases.

I miss the era of the N64 & PS1.
those were the golden years when gamers were united. Non of this fanboy crap.

Seeing a lot of articles lately about all the hate regarding video games including this one from Kotaku from a developer which I thought was a very good read:

It got to the point where I think people felt like it was the "cool" thing to do and it seems that the pendulum is shifting towards haters being looked at more shamefully. You could almost mirror the shift to other hotpoint topics in society.

Agreed.

Consider this post the start of my personal new concerted effort to be less inflammatory in posts, and less divisive.

Anyone else on board?

Yeah but then again the tiny majority of hate on the internet doesnt have a whole lot of impact it seems after looking at sales figures. I think people online who act like this let the inner man baby shine, I couldnt imagine them acting this way in real life and if so people must hate to see them coming.

Can we add a "POLL" to this thread?

Personally, as part of a new years resolution, and in agreement with Larry's statements - I'll make a new personal commitment to be less inflammatory, show more respect towards others, and try to assume the best in people here.

Anyone else on board?

If we could get a poll, starlight777, maybe something like:

"I will do my best to personally be a better online citizen and rid the online gaming world of unnecessary hate"
"Meh, I already do my best"
"Hate is what I THRIVE on, and I have no intentions of letting up"

:)

How so? I'm only asking because I'm out of touch with the world I live in.

Cause we all love to favoritize stuff, and we do it with nigh on everything and will defend and try to prove its superiority. Seriously, ask somebody what there favourite food is. Then disagree with another and watch them try and convince you of its superiority. You can do this with almost any thing, From cars to dental floss.

And that's how humans are, always have been, and always will be. Perhaps it's just the internet where you can remain faceless that makes it worse, but it's definitely worse when you look at gaming communities on the internet then when I argue over what's my favorite pizza topping with a friend. Nothing wrong with playing favorites, and nothing wrong with celebrating the successes of your favorite. The problem is with people trying so hard to, and quite frankly acting so hostile towards other consoles without even owning one themselves. IMO it's much worse on the internet and has gotten out of hand. I think this is what Larry is saying, so I agree with him.

This is the difference between Microsoft and Sony and the fans between both. Sony has been cocky over the years and PS fans eat up the PR and stir things up far more than Microsoft and the Xbox fans do. Microsoft tries to put out the flames, Sony has always fanned them.

Microsoft is in good hands with Major Nelson. It's a night and day difference right now between who's doing it right and who's not doing it right. Both sides can be blamed but i don't see any Sony execs who actually play their PS4 online and make statements like this.

larry is right, and
it time for the gaming industry, as a whole, to grow up
I wish sony would throw their two cents in as well

and when gamers hate and attack.. they only make the idea of what a gamer is
in people mind a reality
which is : can we blame society for thinking that gamers are nothing more than a bunch of socially awkward pre-teen boys that never grew up. Boys that are forever ‘on the edge’, ready to march into a local high school with a handgun or re-enact our latest exploits or pixel based violence and pornography on society?

that IS how people [in the real world] perceive gamers..
that we are abnormal..

now folks I am FEMALE and I am 60 years old [been gaming longer than some of you are old] and I have seen the console industry die, twice
so I am no child, but I am well aware of the perception that people have regarding gamers.. and the attacks that gamers seem to love to do love, just perpetuate peoples stereotypical perception about gamers

Completely agree with Larry. I think the hate will die down a bit after a while, when everyone gets their hands on one and they're not so new anymore.
