Xbox One "Crazy Bandwidth" A Benefit To Developers Says Microsoft

Wow, you are trying to pick apart what he said because you don't accept his claim, that's fine disagree with it all you want, doesn't change what he said or what he meant, which people without reading comprehension difficulties understand.

I'm not disagreeing with John Carmack at all. I just want to know what he thinks "essentially the same" means.

The English language for the most part is not that cryptic, essentially the same means exactly that, that they will be very close in capabilities, which he also says. He is a tech person, not some philosopher where you need to decrypt his words to discover the true meaning.

You might as well give up, Smilebit is arguing for the sake of arguing. He knows exactly what Carmack meant, hes just being an a******.

Why would I, it's about the X1.
Why does Ryse look graphically better than the entire ps4 line up? You still haven't been able to answer that despite all your blind ps4 worship. BTW, how are those dedicated servers shaping up for the ps4?

Cerny spoke on that subject at the temple.. How do you think they're shaping up? ;)

I'd like to know if John Carmack thought the SNES and Sega Genesis were "essentially the same". I'd like to know if he thought the PS and N64 were "essentially the same". I'd like to know if he thought the Dreamcast and the first PSP were "essentially the same".

Are the differences in those machines negligible?

don't expect an answer. Whenever this is posted they stop. Except Cutting who says Ryse looks like a 2D sprite based game when compared to KZSF. In his opinion of course.

All I know is that Knack is a true next-gen title. Cerny said so himself. He wouldn't lie ya know. Must be that GDDR5 working miracles like Cerny said it would.

He didn't speak on those. His quote applied to these two consoles. Those references have no bearing on any of this.

He has a point. I don't know that we can truly appreciate what Carmack was saying without his detailed analysis of the capacity of a Sherman tank vs. a Panzer. What is MS paying him to hide?!

I won't put anything into carmack until he compares non dairy creamer, to dairy based creamers...

That's how you could possibly think "your blind ps4 worship." with my posting history, except change the word PS4 to X1 and that's you.

Dedicated servers are working out just fine thanks. Devs have the option to RENT them on the PS4 just like they can RENT them from MS for the X1. Of course on both systems the devs can take the option to not RENT them. You're going to be disappointed if you think every game on the X1 will have dedicated servers, that's not what MS said. All they are doing is offering to RENT servers, nothing more.

Why does rise look better than the PS4 line up, because you want it to, it's a subjective call and you are a 'fan' of the X1. Lets face it, a 900p QTE fest is not going to sell any consoles.

QTE doesn't exist on the game in anyway. You are just citing inaccurate bullet points now.

I don't remember Microsoft stating the servers had to be rented. I thought they had full access. Can't remember now...damnit.

Oh they do exist, but after the reception Ryse got after E3, they've been hidden. Would you like a link to the E3 footage ?

no its free for the developers to use MS server, the server that SONY have are not theirs so they give them the option to Rent.

Sony have already killed them self, no developer is going to put out money to rent when the other are for free.

Except that MS isn't charging dev's very much at all to use Azure/Dedicated servers.

http://videogamesandnews.com/xbox-one-multiplayer-features-dedicated-servers-smart-match-trd/

Microsoft is subsidizing cloud utility for developers—essentially, it will cost developers nothing to build on/access the Azure platform. So while I don’t believe it’s mandatory for a title to offer dedicated servers, there wouldn’t be any investment on the dev side to do so

That is from Peter Rubin, from WIRED.

And http://www.geek.com/games/titanfall-developer-explains-why-the-xbox-one-cloud-is-awesome-1560041/
Microsoft charges developers to use their cloud platform, but Respawn has stated that it’s much cheaper than renting servers from a third-party host.
The main takeaway from this is Microsoft has decided to offer developers access to a massive amount of off console processing power while at the same time taking all the pain out of multiplayer features and distributed computing for very little cost.

Backed up by Respawn themselves: http://www.respawn.com/news/lets-talk-about-the-xbox-live-cloud/
Most importantly to us, Microsoft priced it so that it’s far more affordable than other hosting options – their goal here is to get more awesome games, not to nickel-and-dime developers. So because of this, dedicated servers are much more of a realistic option for developers who don’t want to make compromises on their player experience, and it opens up a lot more things that we can do in an online game.

Plus we have MS saying that all multiplayer games will have dedicated servers if the devs choose to use them, which apparently from the quote above is pretty much costless so not using them would be silly?

And let's not forget that the service that PS4 devs have to rent from is Rackspace (a third party host)..which as a service is not Azure.

Just to add some fuel to the fire:

http://www.examiner.com/article/ded...used-for-xbox-one-says-call-of-duty-developer

In an interview with EuroGamer, Mark Rubin has confirmed that dedicated servers are reserved for Xbox One and PC only, claiming the Cloud as the soul reason for the Xbox One dedicated servers (a subset of the Azure cloud called "Thunderhead"). PC platform Call of Duty's have had dedicated servers in the past due to their smaller installation base, so nothing changes here

Also, Ryse hasn't been a 'QTE fest' Since E3, in fact, you don't even have to hit any buttons to have the executions finish. The button prompts are gone, and they have system they call "mash to mastery". But yes, lets rely on a video from E3, instead of new videos from the dev and their explanations of what was at E3 and how it actually works.

sigh...

here we go.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...Rome-Hands-On-Preview-Are-You-Not-Entertained

The quizzical "quick-time-events-that-aren't-really-quick-time-events" we saw last time we checked out the game were notably absent. Instead, when an enemy is ready to be finished, a skull appears above his head. Pressing any button while next to him initiates a finishing move.

So, NO QTE's....

got another erroneous bullet?

I hate to clutter up an already solid factual beatdown with a minor quibble, but technically we don't know that the Rackspace stuff for Sony is even dedicated servers - I vaguely remember that this was more for their PSN infrastructure stuff than to be leased back out to developers.

But other than that, I couldn't agree more with what you posted, but things like verifiable facts have that effect on me. :)
