My Current Console Is....

For a cold reboot, just hold down the power button on the console for 10 seconds. No need to unplug, then wait 30 seconds, then then it back on.

Go with the TV setting for colour depth (24).

Ok, i will give that another shot. I really like that setting at PC when i play Ryse. It really looks a lot better with that. My tv also has this dynamic range option, do i set that at auto, full or limited? I assume limited or auto when i have the X1 with the TV setting, right?

I think this has been my only problem with the Xbox one. Less tech savy folks would think that their system was broken.
Yeah, it's a pretty ambitious feature that works well 95% of the time. It's the 5% that it doesn't work that people remember. For better or worse, the X1 is more like a PC than any console before it.

Yeah, I'm just confused because it seems to be random. I always leave it in standby and most of time it works fine. Just the few odd times every once in a while that it just doesn't respond and I need to hard reset everytime. Probably a bug in the OS somewhere.

I'm glad i haven't had this yet. The only times i went for a full reboot is when i was having party issues and then i decided to reboot it completely and that always helped it. But as for turning the console on again after having it in instant on...always works like a charm. I DO think some things become a bit slow after a while though, like loading up my friends list and stuff like that.

What I noticed is that a lot of games don't really exit when you dashboard out (Madden, Destiny). When I dashboard out, I highlight the game screen I was just playing and hit start and exit. That truly shuts down the game. Games like Madden wouldn't even load if I didn't do that.

I've had a lot fewer problems since doing that. I don't know if this is a new thing with games or what, never noticed until recently.

You mean the suspend/resume function? That might be the culprit.

Yeah, remember that you can suspend/resume a game AND have multiple apps running as well. I don't really ever have an issue, but I also quit any app that I don't really need active at the time.

were can you see all the open apps?

Your "home screen" at the dashboard. Look at the following image:

xboxonedashboardupdate.jpg

You have the large currently active screen (seen here as the TF beta), and then at any given time the four boxes underneath could be "open" applications. In this case TV, Achievements, Store, and Messages could all be open using system resources in addition to your currently active screen. In order to quit those apps, you would need to hover over them, hit the menu button, and then select "Quit".

I love the resume feature. It's like an auto save of an auto save. Jumping right back into a game where you left off is amazing.

When it works...

Probably more the fault of game devs, but it seems like some games aren't even tested to see if they work with this. Madden 25 and 15 often won't let you even start the game as it freezes at a loading screen.

So i am playing Ryse again and i notice that as i play it more, it really grows on me. At first i wasn't even that impressed with the combat, or well...i wasn't exactly enjoying it. Now....i am loving it. DEM EXECUTIONS! Those painfaces when you hurt fools....and....

Nope, no firewall i can disable. This modem router actually offers very little options.

I did all that. But i received and error when i tried opening port 80. It said it was already in use and thus it was made into 8080 or something. So i googled my modem router and with that error, turns out this modem router and/or provider does not allow port 80 to be opened....so basically....when it comes to that i am f***ed.

The modem router is a Davolink DV2020. Sadly there is no UPNP on it. I also have a Sitecom wireless modem router N300 X2, but no matter what i do...i can't get it to work. I'm gonna call my ISP tomorrow and ask if they can send me a modem router that has UPNP. I am stuck with this ISP until March 2015.

Someone here said if the NAT is strict or moderate..there will be many problems, but i must say i am impressed with how little problems i've had so far until recently.Even when it was strict i could join parties and talk to people.

Yeah the DMZ host was awesome on 360. It worked like a charm. I had given the 360 a IP of it's own and i put that IP in the DMZ host of the modem router. Sadly it didn't do anything for the Xbox One. I have not opened any other ports in my modem router, so that port 80 error is coming from something else. But it's not even something i can fix, with this crap ass modem router i cannot open port 80.

As for Linksys..i have the WRT54G, but it is only a router, not a modem router in one. I only have two modem routers here, but no normal modems unfortunetely. So the Linksys won't work.
You don't need modem router in one, you can have modem and router separate or you can have modem router that you put in bridge mode and connect router to it.

As for DMZ it definitely does work, once you put your xbox one as DMZ target you need to disable all port gorwarding for xbox ports and then restart modem and when it turns off do same thing with xbox (not to standby mode but holding power button for 15 seconds) if after that your nat is strict then I would change my equpment. Modem router all in one is never the best solution as with that option your router side of it always sucks and is limited with features and that WRT54G is a great router, but it is very old I think as old as original xbox lol. Just avoid modem router combo, and if you must have it then decent option would be Motorola Surfboard.

Some routers can't forward port 80 as it's automatically open for all devices that's the default port through which you access websites.
Upnp will not make a difference for you, modem router combos suckhave minimal options.

I actually buy my own modem and router so I don't pay rental fee to isp who provide sucky ones anyway. So if you want controll over your network you need your own router simple as that.

Best plan would be to have your own MODEM and your own ROUTER. Then you can pick your gear and have way more control. If you only have the one console though that you play online then the DMZ will work fine. If you want multiple consoles to have OPEN NAT you will want a router that has good UPNP (I like ASUS).

Asus routers were highly recommended to me, and now I love my RT-N66R (there's now a newer model available). The control is great. The funny thing is my old router started having issues as we added more devices. I only live with my wife (no kids) but as we added tablets, smart phones, laptops and desktops I started to have disconnect issues. I upgraded to an Asus router and we've not had an issues since.

The "DMZ" setting is not always the best solution. I add my X1 with a static IP to the DMZ and my NAT status according to the console changes to moderate. I use port forwarding and my NAT says open.

MS working on VR headset. Not ready to announce yet though.

VR with Kinect could be awesome imo, one of the main problems with VR currently is lack of input device. With Kinect you will be able to track your whole body so when you hold your hands out in front of you, you will be able to see them in the hmd.
Personally I think this will be something for the next gen though because I really don't think the X1 is powerful enough to power anything demanding. (same goes for project morpheus).
Games need to run @ 90fps at least for an enjoyable low latency experience (to stop motion sickness) and a resolution of at least 1440p or you just won't be able to see anything in fine detail.

I'll be picking up the map packs. So maybe we can hook up and go coop.

Sure man. I haven't even checked out the multiplayer yet.

There's a reason his first two letters are "TD." Every post is an automatic touchdown and any conversation that comes out of it is a two point conversion. The greatest console generation there ever was needs star posters like TD to push the good times into over time.

Looks like the price cut is helping Xbox One sales, the FIFA bundle is beating the PS4 FIFA bundle and funny enough the Xbox One Destiny Bundle with Kinect is beating the PS4 Destiny bundle at Amazon UK

I decided to give the Crackle app a shot on my Xbox One, but it is not working at all. It keeps loading and loading, the circle rotating and all that. This is exactly what my brother has with Netflix. Even though i am not in the USA, i DO have my console set at that, so i can use the USA Marketplace, but that shouldn't matter, right?

I've written before that a lot of my friends just didn't see the need to upgrade because they had their COD fix for the year. They are now starting to jump in. So it will be interesting to see if it's a trend or what the next few months.
