Zenimax Media/Bethesda

Well a future where they are bought is a future where they are gone and that is future we should all dread.

We will all lose out but I suspect it will happen. Content is king and I think there will definitely be more third party publishers bought up. Aside from Nintendo, we’re soon going to have 4 big players in the gaming space all vying for exclusive content for their platform. Sure they can build studios from the ground up but as we’re seeing from MS’s acquisitions, these take time to put together and build games. Add to that the fact that as much as people want new IP’s, it’s hard to get excited about a game you’ve never played unless it’s coming from a top tier dev studio such as CD Project with Cyberpunk and Bethesda with Starfield. That’s why I think MS, Sony, Google and Amazon will opt for buying established studio/publishers with established franchises.

Edit: for what it’s worth, if the buying up of studios does become a thing, I hope MS and Sony get in there first as gaming on two platforms is about as much as I can afford financially and time wise. I certainly don’t want to have to sub to Luna too because some of my favourite games are on there.

Zenimax is such a bad 80's company name. 🤣

Madz is a joke and knows nothing.
We don't know what's happening.
If XSX sells boat loads vs PS5 they MIGHT not release on PS5 but I am guessing.
We don't know if the game has been on development already for PS5.
We do know that at the least 2 games are coming exclusively to PS5.

Ryan McCafferyalso agrees they’ll stay full exclusive

The problem with all of this is that ISP's still have data caps. All of the major cell providers have data caps (even if they offer unlimited, you get throttled at some point, for instance T-Mobile is 22GB) and the biggest home ISP in the US, Xfinity also has data caps of 1TB in most areas. Until they get rid of that BS money grabbing cap s***, things like this will never take off big. For MS though that's OK because Xcloud isn't their main brand of service, it's meant to complement your console or PC at this point.

Yeah envieonment isn't ready. There is so much more bandwidth on 5G though. There's no reasons for data caps. Many businesses (not just MS) will be working out deals to ensure their products can have high engagement. The data cap thing also tends to be an American problem. At some point, government may have to step in if agreements can't be made because our data caps will slow down innovation and growth compared to the rest of the world. Its not just gaming that will suffer.

Yes. Industry is in an interesting position right now. Theres a lot of opportunity for new players to enter at the top or bottom. However paradigm is changing and a lot of publisbers successful previously may not be successful in the new environment. Bethesda is a great example. Their games would've sold much better during 360 gen. Now even well rated games have low ceilings if they aren't open world or GAAS. So publishers of single player games either have to cut cost of projects or consolidate to aim for big open worlds or ongoing GAAS games. That changes with subs where diverse content is king.

So some publishers either have to change, restructure and re-strategize or sell. Some will sell. I still believe ATT sells WB. Look out for Capcom. They're on a hot streak but most of their games outside of Monster Hunter don't fit today's model as stand alone games.

but is guessing

Everyone is guessing at this point. Its a logical guess. Almost anyone with credibility and sources seems to think every game outside of the GAAS stuff and previous commitments is going exclusive until further notice.

I think Microsoft will SHOW people that Bethesda is exclusive to the Xbox platform instead of tell them in order not to cause a full blown meltdown. This bit of information right here basically shows why they dont need to go multi platform. It just isnt necessary.

That right there is what the quote "play on the devices you want where you want”means. Providing it’s in the Xbox ecosystem.
