Zenimax Media/Bethesda

Better Microsoft than Google, Apple or Amazon no?

It depends on what MS does with them. Saying titles on other platforms will be on a case by case basis doesn't really do anything good for the industry as a whole, MS didn't magically make their portfolio better either because these games were all coming to xbox regardless of this purchase, this could be bad in that it keeps games off of other platforms that otherwise would have been there and I don't see that as being any better than what Apple or Google would have done. I they still keep the big games multiplatform which makes the most business sense and still allow Bethesda to make their big open world games with long stories etc then everything is fine, they'll get these big games on their subscription service day one and everyone else can buy a copy for their preferred platform if they want to.

I felt like something like this was eventually going to happen with the way Sony was poking the bear. Microsoft just has to much money and it didn’t make sense for them to keep letting Sony make all these deals.

It may have been in their last investment call, but I remember the statement in the press release telling investors to be prepared for more acquisitions and expansions.

Sony can't outspend MSFT. Its been obvious MSFT was unwilling to make this kind of commitment in the past. It seems now MSFT is eager to unseal the vault and allow the spending of their vast cash reserves on gaming. And to that I say "WooHoooo"!!!!!!

I haven't bought a game from this company since Skyrim. I reckon I'll have to get a new Xbox in 2025 when ES:VI releases.

I don't want any company buying up publishers, again MS would have already had all of these games on their platforms regardless of this purchase so it's not really a benefit to xbox customers it's just potentially something that hurts competitors if they make certain games exclusive and at the very least is very anti consumer. MS has money because they've been ruthless and successful in other areas not because they've done well in the gaming industry and having them buy up other companies is not a good thing overall.

IF GTA6 ends up being PS5 exclusive for any length of time or any other large franchise I hope the people who are celebrating this move by MS have the same thought process when it comes to any potential move Sony makes, personally I don't think any of this is needed and doesn't make anything better for gamers.

I'm assuming these companies have new IPs being worked on. Some we know, some we don't.

We only hate anti consumer moves when Sony does it. I guess you didn't get the memo.

Every game Bethesda was going to put out would end up on xbox consoles, even these two lame timed exclusives Sony bought up were going to come to xbox at some point. Deathloop looks like it could be fun but ghost wire tokyo looks like s*** IMO. Like I said with Sony's final fantasy deal I don't know why these companies do stuff like this, it's one thing to make a deal with another company to make a game for you that they otherwise weren't going to make, it's another thing to take multiplatform series and buy them off either timed or completely just to keep them away from other consoles. It doesn't really add to their library because they'd have gotten it regardless it just takes it away from someone else. I know it's business but it's not a part of the business that I particularly care for.

Can one of them take the reins of Halo?

Nobody said that was the case.

Doesn't matter how many games you play on it thee cost remains the same.

Except if you purchased all those games, let’s say for an average of $20, it would take over 10 years of paying the GP subscription to spend as much.

But it is clearly becoming a cause and effect. Sony doesn’t have to make timed deals because they are the market leader and make arguably the best first party games of the 3. However they want their cake and to eat it to and many insiders have reported they have approach every 3rd party developer for some sort of deal.

It’s obviously not the same thing, but like I said in my other post. You keep poking a bear who has one of the biggest piles of f*** you money and this is what happens.

I don't see it as anti-consumer but rather its ruthless competition. You want to play a certain game only available on a certain platform then you get onboard with that platform. Its as simple as that. I wasn't happy about the platform gate Sony put in place to be able to play as Spiderman in the Avengers game. But I understood why they did it and it decided for me which platform I needed to purchase that game on. For the record I held off a purchase of Avengers not because of the character exclusivity but because of the reported state the game launched in.

And Game Pass makes a case for pro-consumerism rather than against it. Its a money saving subscription service very much in the favor of gamers like myself that purchase a lot of games and still miss out on others because of a lack of time. Now with Game Pass I can play those games or try others I wasn't sure about for a small fee.

BTW, MSFT has so much money because they basically have a monopoly on the computer OS sector where almost the entire planet is WIndows dependent. But if you think Sony Corporate has become successful because they are filled with a bunch of nice guys you're in for a rude awakening.

It’s a A+ move. With Sony buying up exclusivity deals and paying to keep content off Xbox there is no guarantee “those games” will come to Xbox. Bigger picture this move amplifies they EA Play move on Game Pass and fills a massive AAA whole in MS’s first party. Some of smaller AA studios jinca makes fun of can find their role instead having the pressure of building the next huge IP. This acquisition is a game changer.
