Infamous: Second Son Discussion

I'm at 87% last I checked with all side missions done and about three or four areas to do the final battle thing for.

Yeah I skipped them on my Evil playthrough, only because as evil you do not get the "slow down time" Neon power
I guess that's been my issue. First time through is evil, and I still only have smoke.

So Papertrail still hasn't shown up for me. I have Cole's dlc, but no paper trail.

I forget when the paper trail missions started showing up for me, but you can't miss them when they do. They have a unique image for the mission marker.

I started playing this tonight, I really like the use of the touchpad so far. I am very early, I just not got past the bridge and to the checkpoint where the guards realize you are a threat. I have died three times so far, I need some strategy. The graphics are really amazing at times and in certain areas. So far the game is so linear, I am ready for it to open up since it is an open world game. I was thinking Ryse was the best looking game I have ever seen then a week or so ago when Infamous pics were popping up I thought it was better looking but now after seeing both I think Ryse is better looking overall. Both look amazing though

Tried the Karmic streak to get the secret agents last night. Only did the video one but it seemed to only work if you see him and he isn't alerted yet. If he sees you doing it he will just dash out of the area and your attack won't hit him. But your video torrent ability is pretty effective at killing him anyways so it was a cake walk

Cleared the first island on my second playthrough. Going for Hero this time. I thought this would be much more difficult, but I like the Hero powers just as much as inFamous'. I'm still playing on Normal so I can decide which side I want to play on for my Expert playthough.

Yeah, I find using the Neon or 3rd powers are more easier to kill the secret agents. You just need to keep aiming at him and spam your shoot button.

Agreed! The third (don't want to spoil if you haven't played that far) power's basic shot made the agents SUPER easy. I have all the side quests finished, just need to finish the main quest (and get the last shard once I progress far enough in the story that I can access where it is).

I thought the difference in playing twice was content driven but its not. Its game-play driven. My first time through was for the evil side and now that I'm replaying on the good side the different powers really change up the game-play. I really like the slow-mo power the good side gets with Neon. I like it so much that I'm still using Neon after recently getting the third power again. I recommend two different karma play-thrus.

Really fun game and I hope they add some meaty DLC.

Is the third power even a spoiler? Maybe to those who haven't played the game at all. Unless I'm wrong, but it seems you know the third power at the start of the game. I haven't played it that far though.

It is. I didn't know what the third power was when I started the game.

I do think the game has a few gameplay problems so far that Infamous 1 didn't have.

I don't like that it's a little harder to travel in smoke than electricity. I really liked the rail grinding and building hoping from the first infamous, but having to go in pipes to go up buidings kind of takes away from it and they didn't include them in well to get too spots. With having the rails and other things taken out they should have off setted this by having more vents and in easy to get too places to make traveling easier, instead they focused on making these vents more out of the way to balance refilling, but they should have did it the other way around . Made the vents easy to access, and have them go horizontally as well for fast forward movement along top of buildings (shoot through and out quickly) long vents, short, medium etc). This is a huge oversight they missed imo and would have made the movement so much more fun.

I know neon of sets this a little, but I don't really like running up and around the buildings this way, it lacks control and movement for me.

So far that is really my biest complaint besides the aiming and enemies not feeling that fun to fight.

don't be a ah :) I think those complaints are very valid, you don't agree that is fine. You can tell me how you think the vents and traveling was good to you compared to what I said I guess.

I think having horizontal vents to shoot you quickly around and maybe even out of the vents at angles would work well.

And i did say so far because I'm not sure how the third power helps me to get around the city yet.

Since you usually hear good things from me, I have to say I enjoyed the last half of Bioshock infinite more than the first half of infamous so far... but that is not set in stone yet. Only about 33 percent through infamous :) I think... But I do hate fighting the enemies and the first boss just didn't feel fun. Enjoyed the needle climb though

The game isn't really designed as well as Infamous 1 in many ways IMO, the shards are also insanely easy to find, and they took out what made climbing around fun to begin with.

I do hate the cameras in this game, but actually enjoyed the collectibles in infamous 1 as well.

They made everything to easy or user friendly in this game, even upgrading had it's own levels (althought bad) but infamous 1 had them.

So far though, I'd really say Infamous 1 is a better overall game for me. I need to pick up Infamous 2 sometime to see how that one holds up. I think people are too hyped about the visuals of 2nd son is all.

You're just not very good at the game I would guess. With any of the three powers it is rather easy to quickly navigate the world if you know how. Smoke is perhaps the hardest, but all you really need to do is hit a vent to the top of a building, glide to the nearest 'up' vent and hit jump to boost to the next building over and repeat. With the other two powers you pretty much just hold a button or tap one now and again.

As for your problem with the aiming, again I think you just aren't any good at the game. The aiming is fine and if you find it too sensitive you can adjust that in the settings. I had no problems landing headshots on moving targets while flying through the air. Sure you, may have to spam a little, but the powers encourage that. I'll take a good free aim system any day over some crappy lock-on that many of these open world games use.

I'm bad at games jester, never played games or similar games. That must be it sir.

Traveling isn't that great with smoke or neon, smoke is most about going up the buildings.. .again infamous 1 is so much better (that roof gif is pretty hawt)

Also, neon is just run over the buildings do a few jumps(the reason I thought prototype was pretty boring)

I upped the aiming cause you know I'm pretty good at shooters and what not, not too bad. The aiming and hit detection just doesn't feel that good, or maybe they are like sponges. Infamous 1 felt exactly the same so I'm not surprised by how the aiming and interaction feels in this game. Border lands 2, has great controls though, by comparison.

So, I said the shooting could be better, the ineraction and you said It was just me, now you say just cause a game is a fps it's better. That isn't a good argument. Shooting mechanics are fine in Gears and Bioshock isn't as good as borderlands (same type of game, same publisher) for instance. Halo, borderlands is pretty fantastic though. Now your admitting to saying the controls are not as good as they can be, why didn't you just say this before instead of trying to beat me down with your comment? not very fair..

Hey Jackie, once you get all three powers you'll realize its obvious that there is a progression to traveling around the city. Smoke is the slowest of the bunch as far as traveling is concerned. Neon speeds things up and then the third power will have you zipping around with great speed & ease. Shooting mechanics feel fine to me and no different from the past two games in the series.

I wish we could mix and match powers from the three power-sets. I'd take good-side Neon offensive powers with the third power travel ability and be god-like.

Not being able to mix powers in someway is another downfall, but I'll wait and see how the third power is. Feel like I have barely did any story missions so far, maybe the story will interest me more and more. The game is fine, it's a solid title with just some issues here and there but that is sort of expected with it being open world, a smaller team and on a new platform with a shorter development time than they had before. For a early title, it isn't that bad and I won't even mind that it's a little short or lacking in a few places.

I will say, I hope their next game they will go to smaller levels and different worlds like that of Sly 2 and 3, and maybe even a different more cartoonish art style. I think this game is fine and I really don't want them to do another Infamous though. A new IP and a different play set and style would do nicely for me. I'm sure they will do Infamous Son 2 though and disappoint me. They are so good at gameplay and world design that I would just want them to make a non- open world game though. It's my hope. Maybe half the team can create that game, while half the team re thinks how they can handle enemy place ment and battles as their trend is starting to wear a bit thin now with the third game of "clearing" everything out enemy style.

It sounds like maybe you made the same mistake I did in judging the game before experiencing all it has to offer. I’ll stick by my complaints of boring and not terribly imaginative side missions because those suck. But you really need to try all the powers first which requires two play-thrus before you can make a well informed judgment about this game.

After I completed it the first time as a bad guy I made the mistake of thinking that was enough to judge the whole package. It wasn’t as I have seen during my good guy play—thru which offers changes to the powers. Those changes really switch up the game-play from mass destruction on the evil side to pinpoint precision during my heroic run. And even though the missions are largely the same during each karma play-thru they play out differently due to the variations in powers. And the best thing of all is the game never ceases to be fun. Actually it feels quite fresh because of the differences in powers and adds replay value.

As I said before I encourage everyone to do two different karma play-thrus. If you loved it the first time you still be in love with it the second time around.

Not really digging the third power overall, but the missions have been a little better. When doing a second playthrough do you need to do all the side missions and things to equal full power? or just the drones, hand readers and maybe the paint things? I don't realy want to do the cameras or other missions to get the most out of it atleast. I think most of all I hate clearing out the enemies though, with the cameras being a close 2nd, dont mind the painting

Thankfully you can skip the side missions on your next play-thru and still get to max karma rather quickly. I’ve been maxed out with good karma soon after I got to the second territory. The only side missions I’ve done are those I needed for the trophy that are karma specific and the hunting down and destroying of those mobile command centers and jammers which obscure the map.

The command centers are the best side missions because they are combat focused and I really wish there were more of them. So much better than those sending me on a scavenger hunt with a GPS tracker or looking for a hidden camera that's right in my face. I’m replaying on expert difficulty and not having any trouble. The enemies are quite stupid and won’t aggressively follow you if you change elevation for a quick breather so your health recharges. The best trophy in this game is the one that requires you to defeat an enemy using all three powers. A great example of how these things add fun game-play scenarios that I might not have thought of on my own.

Well that is good to know, I acutally enjoy the spray painting and I wish they had a option to actually let you paint a little more in details other than just making you feel like your painting something, stencils are fine, but a alternate mode to let you move your stencils and paint it as you want and what colors you want with more detail would also be quite nice and something to mess with. Hope to get that in a future release.

I don't mind the agent missions (pretty easy) but I guess the only things I like are finding the shards/drones, paint, audio log isn't super super terrible but wouldn't want to do them again. I enjoyed Infamous 1's shard hunts more as I said before though. Sly cooper's bottles with their sound clues were much more fun though (even though it's linear and better to hide them more)

Still wish they had alternate levels to find shards and things.. like the climbing portions. Just a more linear path to use your powers to make it to the end.

I'm still disappointed with the third power, just too similar to the 2nd IMO... all the powers overall are too similar, next time they need to make them actually different and let you combine then as we talked about before. Even though it is easier to travel with it in some ways, I don't like the actual function of how you use it to travel.

I don't really like its "L1" function too much, the melee is pretty good I guess, also good it's an automatic fire as well. I can't see why I'd want to use it overall, I'd just stick to Neon or smoke I feel.

^^^
Neon is the best power-set in the game to me. I love its flashiness and it feels impactful when it connects with an enemy’s face. There is this thud sound which adds a bit of weight to it that I like. I agree that the third power-set is a little underwhelming but still fun to use. Its tactical ability is too hands off and doesn’t seem as useful as the sulfur bomb or stasis bubble. I do really like its travel ability but it looks cooler when you’re a villain with red coloring.

Finally beat the game last night. Unbeknownst to me, I only had like an hour or so of actual game play left since Saturday, could have easily finished then.

For those of you that immediately started a second playthrough on the other karma side, did you play on "Expert" difficulty for that trophy? If so, how much more difficult is it? I'll be playing as "good" the second time around.

It wasn't that much harder. Sure, I've died a few more times than Easy but it's nothing too difficult. Just got to keep aiming for those heads and using those karmic attacks.
