Infamous: Second Son Discussion

^^^
Neon is the best power-set in the game to me. I love its flashiness and it feels impactful when it connects with an enemy’s face. There is this thud sound which adds a bit of weight to it that I like. I agree that the third power-set is a little underwhelming but still fun to use. Its tactical ability is too hands off and doesn’t seem as useful as the sulfur bomb or stasis bubble. I do really like its travel ability but it looks cooler when you’re a villain with red coloring.
the traveling is the worst part of the third power to me, the way it goes around the street and up buildings is a bit off, works but whatever.

The hovering is really nice for the third power though, I don't like that their isn't a grenade option with it though, that is sort of what makes me not want to go to it in some ways.

With the third power travel ability are you using the satellite dishes for an extra boost? Those things are found on almost every rooftop and add significant distance that can be traveled.

I prefer Neon because when you combine the super jump with lightspeed it gives the game a Crackdown feel while running and jumping from roof to roof and its awesome. Only the good side gets the hover ability with the third power. That's one of the reasons why I'd like to combine powers to mix and match. Maybe that could have been added as a new game + feature or possible DLC addition. And yeah, the third power tactical ability is no substitute for the two that come before it. But its still a fun power to use.

If you haven't completed the game yet and still have districts to clear I suggest you wait until you complete the campaign first. Trust me, there is a nice surprise at the end that should make the clearing of remaing districts even more fun. ;)

Yeah of course, but i still just don't like it. Maybe because of it's overall fight abilities I guess, I'd rather just stay to neon and then use those than to have to switch to it. Sort of why I wish you could store all three powers at once I guess. Is it ok to finish the game then go back for collectibles? I have been doing most of the clearing first.

^^
After the credits roll you can go back and complete any activities still available including shard hunting. And there will be random hotspots where DUP show up on the map. Those are fun because in some cases they throw the heavies at you like those big guys with a gatling gun or heavily armored super troopers that take a pounding before going down.

sigh, what a horrible save system this game has. lost 30 percent of my progress. tried to change the difficulty accidentally started a new game, and apparetly I'm all teh way back to where you get the 3rd power lol.... I was on the boss fight just trying to finish it up too. Can't remember ever having this happen in another game before. Now my two autosaves are just on a new game, sigh... Had been meaning to save for a while, but I didn't think I really needed to :(

Let that be a warning to others, don't start a new game and accidentally not save. Should have been paying more attention..

Was talking on my computer, was getting annoyed with the final boss, dying. Didn't realize the game was on expert, was going to drop it down to normal. Seemed I didn't manually save since the boss fight way back when I got the third power. I hadn't turned off my ps4 as well, or I probably would have..

When I put it to normal, or I thought I did it must have said "do you want to start a new game" but I just didn't realize it. Also, having a HK ps4 doesn't help actually. With the O and X being switched for enter and back, a lot of games will resort to X for confirm while you need to do O for the OS functions for confirming or entering. Yeah, so.. add all of that together and I have to replay a lot of the game.

A new game started and I was trying to exit it, and I couldn't until a specific part, and when I finally did get out of it both recent auto saves were for the start of the game. I didn't do anything, so no idea why both auto saves were for the start... oh well.

Worse part besides having to replay all the things i did is missing the ending when I was just right there at it... waiting for the story to finish up, now it's like a paused conclusion

Could have been worse. Your TV could have toppled and landed on your leg, breaking it.

Every time I save in this game I’m always nervous about whether it was done or not. There is no confirmation so I always go to the load option to make sure my save was updated. I also don’t like it when a game doesn’t have a title screen like this game doesn’t have. After I save and hit the guide button to return to the dashboard I’m always hoping my save isn’t corrupted or some other problem arises because I didn’t quit properly but there is no other way to but to do it. There are some head-scratching design and game-play choices that were made with this game.

Finally put the effort in to get the platinum. The evil ending was great. I wish they would have shown more though. What a game.

GTA V has the same instant load into game mechanism going on. So I guess it's an open-world kind of thing?

I didn't put much time into GTA V but Black Flag & Dead Rising 3 have a traditional title screen to back out to. Its a design choice and one I'm not fond of. And when you have multiple saves and want to load an earlier save you first have to wait for the game to load your latest save and then go and manually load the save you intended. With a title screen we would be able to load the save file we want right from the start.

Yeah, a few games have this kind of style with no menu. I guess I'm so use to games having autosave these days as well.. I do really like multiple saves and being able to save my game, just I like the autosave file as well. I'd like to have a load feature as standard from the start perhaps.

Welp, finished the story atleast.

I will say there are parts of the design I enjoy much more than GTA for example. I'm glad I don't have the same A to B back to A mission structure atleast. I am glad they just let you go around and look for things over the map so you aren't really doing a lot of back tracing, this is a huge plus for me.

The negative side of this is that there wasn't a lot of unique missions though, and the story missions were quite few and nothing on the scale of linear missions as much as I wanted their to be, the design and use of your powers could have been delt with a lot better especially on the last boss fight. The first fight with her did a lot better job using and exploiting your powers atleast. I wouldn't really say this game as as good as Infamous 1 but a solid title overall.

Now, I need to finish up finding everything and then begin Infamous 2 at some point.

-Dash Cement should be a more muscular cement deslin this blob thing looks a bit meh
-Powers need to have a different feel, there is little difference between all of the powers in all of the infamous games.
-Ability to switch between powers and keep your power guages at whatever level they are at until used up
-There isn't a huge reason to use one power versus others in any given situation in a fight, that's half good half bad
-Enemy variety (atleast in look or powers) just isn't there and really needs to be there. Characters with Neon or other powers that do something different would have been nice
-Design of the wave of enemies would be nice too, not only having enemies that stand/hast/dash after you would be a welcome change.
-more detailed paint mechanics are welcome
-the facial animation was overall very good and believable for the most part
-neon needs to be much faster when running, I'm barely out running humans and may be slower than actual sprinters. I'd also like levels where i need to crash through things at neck break speeds and I should be able to ascen buildings through their neon lights at lightning speed.
-Neon travel in general should have been in, shooting your body up, through and using it as lifts would have been great.

I can think of millions of things that would help improve this title, wish I was da boss.

Overall, I'd give the game a basic score of 2 hot dogs at a hamburger party. Good enough.

My next complaint actually needs it's own post.

Melee Combat- Overall just poor

And I can tell you how to make it better very easily

1. He already has a chain, so let's see how we can improve on that.

First, you aren't really using the buttons on the controller to do much, while this is not always a bad thing and some games makes your moves are little complicated and strange, this game doesn't use anything well.

*First we will map the dash to the left analog stick with the click, this would make movement with dashing and other moves automatically work insanely better.

Secondly, we are going to think of other ways to traverse (this would affect story elements as well as designed levels) He has a chain, so why can't I use this chain in combination with my thrusts and swinging! Hey, now that sounds fun and brings in some interesting moments when I must use this power. I should be able to latch onto some kind of hooks and thrust my-self through the swing to build up an incredible amount of speed and swing to far distances, to either latch onto another hook or land on a platform that I would other wise never make it too with just dash or thrusting alone. Thrusing could be controlled with one arm, while the other arm is involved witht he swing,or if looked right during his swing animation it could actually come out of his feet and he can use both arms to swing.

next, since he does have a chain why not let him do other things with it in combat. Why I can't use Triangle or X to perform other moves and combos?

First, I would like the ability to wrap the chain around enemies, legs perhaps and then I can give them a nice tug and trip them up.

*this would move us on to some kind of ground pound (maybe thrusting off of them or just running over them with a dash move would create a slightly different animation and damae attack too perhaps) many many options to be tested to make it flow well and feel good.

Secondly, maybe I can just ignite them and set them ablaze after I have wrapped around them (taking off a lot more power to balance it)

Square could still be your melee and triangle could perhaps be your wrap up or grab button.

Then, there are many other things you could end up designing around the grab mechanic besides tripping and igniting.

Just a few of the ideas would be as follows

-a pull toward mechanic, then you can stop this pull half way to shoot a strong blast at them (such as a rocket) and send them back again. You could pull them close for some melees and maybe a grab and ignite move as well. You could also pull them in to create a sort of blast while holding them to shoot them quite far for a quick kill as well.

After I had the basics down, I'd start working on enemies to combat some of the things your able to do to balance at the fun and progression. I'd then also add in some type of combo system to keep your moves feeling interesting and engaging.

melee really needs to step it's game up in this series.

With the melees and move set being greater, more diverse I don't think you would even need more powers (especialy powers that are just basically a re skinning) Focus on the combat and style of one or two powers.

Good lord, dude. 1. Why the hell did you keep playing the game if you hated it this much? 2. Why do you find the need to continually shove your negativity down everyone's throats? I think everyone on the forum gets it, you don't like it. I don't know what happened to you, man. Years ago I genuinely enjoyed reading your posts, now I want to blow my head off every time I see your name in a thread.

Yeah it is pretty amazing. I imagine Jackie playing games and grimacing in pain the entire time.

lol. I will agree melee in the game was a little let down. I don't remember the first two so I can't compare, but it seemed like it was so slow. There were times I'd hit the button only to be countered quicker and get knocked back. Just felt really slow.

seemed like constructive criticism. i dont get you people, when i say i didnt enjoy a game you cry about it asking for reasons and essays.. when someone does that you bash him too for talking too much about it LOL

most of the things he wrote were on things they could improve. if you cant post things like that then why have a discussion thread, just make it a 'Infamous: Second Son Only Positives Thread'

this seems to be a trend on the PS section, you cant say anything remotely negative. too sensitive

Sure you can

It's fine man. Sorry you feel a few members are overly sensitive about your Second Son criticism.

I don't remember seeing anywhere where I said I didn't like it... seems I were giving gameplay ideas ... always have wrote and had controls and gameplay ideas for my own things in the past. lol funny that i give out some things that I think would be fun... cool to see ina game and it's apparently a list of "i hate this game" interesting.

Seems blue and u2 take their own context's completely in another ball park, or different sport.. apparently...

seemed like constructive criticism
Hey, good post, it's hard to find this at times. Thanks :)

I understand I generally point out more negative with things than the positive usually. Sorry, if that bothers some, honestly. I actually did list positive critiques in that list though..

I even gave it a positive rating -

For those that can't Kojima, I'd put that near a 7.9

I disagree with you on one front, You need to replace that "PS" section and put it as "entire forum"

It's always been that way though, I still like my ideas overall. I still accept the game for what it is, I get that mentality as well. It's fine to get what you got, as it isn't going to change. I could critique every game in this way, doesn't mean I hate it like it anymore or less from what "just my ideas" are though.

You may give the game a hot dog or two or whatever, but that doesn't change the fact I imagine you playing games with the expression of a man having some severe stomach illness.

well i dont remember getting so many defensive replies when i posted about Ryse being average (i liked it but mention the problems), or any other 3rd party game tbh

but any exclusive PS game thread is filled by defensive replies. dont wanna start something though so i wont go into it more

I'm actually pretty calm, and you'd be surprised how far off you are with your assumption I think. What happened to the old friendly and understanding blue that was at txb, what did Neogaf do to you :( There is a reason hive mind comes around a bit, there is more truth than not to that. Even though I do hate that actual phrase.
