Im going to have to disagree. HDR is definitely better than full array backlit, imo. Sure you get better blacks, but HDR has a greater impact, imo.Non HDR with Full Array LED>Edge Lit with HDR.
Full Array>anything else when it comes to LCD based tech.
Nothing has a better visual impact on a LCD set than Full Array LED.
If you ghave the money, you can go with the samsung 9000 which is full array and should have the Sammy bennies. Of course, that series is like, six grand...Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to "have it all" so to speak right now, hopefully that changes with next years models.

I'd also say to make sure the display is nano crystal(for LEDs, anyway) which would be SUHD or Tri-Luminance for Samsung and Sony, respectively. Not sure what other brands call 'em. I'd personally put color range above the deepest blacks. It's not like the blacks aren't good.

I've been looking into this more myself, the Vizio P series is good if you don't want to use HDR while gaming, if you enable HDR it ups the input lag considerably. Check out the section here at rtings for input lag and how it changes depending on which features you are using. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/p-series-2016 also forget using an OLED for gaming right now as the input lag on those sets is still pretty high as well. It looks like for gamers the Samsung KS8000 would be the best choice.
what games were they using to test HDR mode ? Didn't know there were any HDR games available yet or was this done by hooking a pc to the tv ? When i just googled it there was no mention of any game engine being coded with HDR yet.Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to "have it all" so to speak right now, hopefully that changes with next years models.
Sorry but I returned the p-series because there was no HDR in game mode so the input lag while gaming was over 100ms and the picture was not bright enough for me. I bought the samsung KS8500 curved 65in and could not be happier the picture just pops and HDR in game at 20ms is awesome, its the better TV. So in my opinion Ks8500>vizio. Also the curved is amazing for gaming just play forza and see. Simply amazingP Series > Samsung.
Spec wise this is a fact.P Series > Samsung.
I disagree since I had both in my house. Samsung makes a better product and the Fact that the HDR was not working in gamemode is a big turn ofg for me. But you will probably disagree with that as well.Spec wise this is a fact.
From the Edge Lit KS8500 to the Full Array KS9800.
The Vizio P series has em beat and is much cheaper.

I am not believing the above post.
The sets have been updated to HDMI 2.0a AFAIK plus I see no mention of the 1080p/120hz port(which is amazing for gaming)Looks like the only HDMI input that gives low latency in the Vizio P series is also the one that doesn't allow HDR, at least according to this review.
This is from the rtings.com review for the P series.
Input lag is great. For best results, use HDMI5 with 'Game Low Latency' on. Shown below are the results for combinations of HDMI ports, HDR vs SDR, 'Game low latency' (GLL) and 'Active LED' (ALED).

What hes saying and I have been saying is that there is no HDR in game mode. And to use HDR your input lag greatly increases. Just read the site I gave a link to above. JesusThe sets have been updated to HDMI 2.0a AFAIK plus I see no mention of the 1080p/120hz port(which is amazing for gaming)
Not sure what I said/you quoted has to do with this but ok.
Dont Care you believe me or not Im stating my opinon I bought one did not like so I exchanged it for ks8500 and love it. End of storyYeah not believing you had both in your house. Sorry
One set is full array with both dolby vision+standard HDR and can accept 120hz inputs.(ie great for gaming)
The other is Edge Lit which no matter how you slice it offers worse blacks, poor uniformity, clouding and bleeding in dark scenes that are a major issue for some and ALL are native to the tech. Also AFAIK none of the Sammy sets offer dolby vision HDR which is the most advanced form of HDR.
So yeah spec wise its a fact that the P series is more advanced and don't make me mention the R series!
I don't agree with Samsung making a better quality either..(used to be top tier to me)
In fact I haven't liked much from Sammy in a long time with the most recent being the UHDBR player I own from them.
But this is opinion
As expected....How about some screens? Some screens of the set in a lit setting would be great and some in the dark with a black background with a logo or text be even betterDont Care you believe me or not Im stating my opinon I bought one did not like so I exchanged it for ks8500 and love it. Well for gaming the 1080p/120hz port would help GREATLY with reducing input lag.I thought you were saying you didn't believe him that this was how the set up worked, I see in another post you said you don't believe he had both sets so I apologize lol.
I was reading Neogaf and there was a twitter debate between devs about 4k or 1080p for scorpio, they seemed more interested in the possibilities at maxxed out 1080p vs the 4k option.
6tf wasn't really enough to allocate resources. It would work, but not enough. But then again, devs are full of s*** half the time right
Well for gaming the 1080p/120hz port would help GREATLY with reducing input lag.
That is the res we will be playing with these new consoles anyway.
I expect 1080p/60fps across the board with both.
Back to what I was saying....If you are talking about the HDMI 5 input yeah that's the one to use, unfortunately using HDR is a problem there and a lot of peole seem pretty excited about that as a new feature. The Samsung lets you use HDR in game mode and it barely increases the lag at all, with the Vizio if you want HDR in games you are kind of screwed.
Dude, he is a full array zealot. The only time I've been less than impressed with my tv is if it's a fully black screen. If you look at the rtings site they give the nod to Samsung, though it's biggest hit does come from less ideal local dimming. Nano crystal displays with HDR > than just great local dimming, apparently. Being able to use hdr with gaming should help a lot, I hope. I do know that watching hdr content is pretty spectacular compared to standard 4k.If you are talking about the HDMI 5 input yeah that's the one to use, unfortunately using HDR is a problem there and a lot of peole seem pretty excited about that as a new feature. Back to what I was saying....
Edge Lit is a deal breaker with HDR or not. If you care about PQ?
Me personally PQ comes 1st I couldn't see myself spending thousands on a non Full Array LED/LCD.
Again we won't be playing much 4K on these consoles but we will be watching 4K content.
