Official Thread Playstation VR

Yeah, I've been reading GAF for about 8 years now, so I like to think I'm pretty good at separating the wheat from the chaff. I don't pay much attention to the one-liner negativity. I pay attention to people who give specifics, or who go into some detail about what they liked and didn't like.

One of the things that occurred to me as I was reading the thread was that I would need to demo the unit before trying it. That had occurred to me before, but it didn't really sink in until I was reading that thread. I called around, and unfortunately no stores in my area have a PSVR demo (not surprising; I live in a small city). I don't have any friends with VR units, so I think I'm out of luck, in terms of being able to demo a unit, which makes VR a no-go for me, for the time being.

I asked in that thread, and I'll ask it here, too: do you find that VR makes "normal" gaming less enjoyable? Do you find yourself playing a normal game and wishing it were in VR instead?

Yeah, demoing VR is super important, some people can't even stand the nausea being in the menu screen, while others can play for hours.

As far as Vr making normal games less enjoyable, yes to an extent for me. RE7 just seems like 10 steps backwards without VR, it feels boring, no depth, no 3d effect, it just feels completely stale. However, for some reason if I don't have a VR option for a game, I don't find myself dwelling on it so much that I don't enjoy myself either.

I thought that thread at Gaf may have been de3d1. Guess not.

I want to try PSVR but no store around me has ever had kiosks set up. I tried Oculus and that was cool. But they had really limited demos. No actual games or anything.

Tried out RE7 Sony VR this afternoon. Wow. At first thought it was gimmicky. Tempted to jump into the VR scene. Got like $1276 GameStop credit to burn lol. Gonna hold out just in case there's a sale this Black Fridays.

Im waiting for Black Friday, also. I feel like Sony should be poised to move those things in volume by then.

Honestly, I can't wait! I'm totally more looking forward to this than anything else, even without actually trying PSVR. I just do not think I'll be let down. My Pro is ready!

I actually waited on purchasing RE7, and I wasn't sure if I should have just gotten the Xbox version on sale, but it looks like I'll just hit the next good sale for PS4 ver. instead. I really don't like double dipping, and this is definitely the down side of going digital. On that note, it kind of irks me that Bethesda will make people repurchase their games for VR, when they should really just be an add-on, imo. I wouldn't mind just paying a reasonable upgrade fee.

Nope, I didn't even comment in that thread actually.

My Pro is ready!

It's actually $399.99 at checkout right now, as the bundle is on sale for Amazon Prime Day!

It's $87.58 for the Move 2 pack. That puts the whole thing at $487.57 + tax.

Ugg, should I wait for Black Friday? This is hard. I wasn't expecting a sale on this today.

I'm sure there will be better deals, but I doubt they'll beat that by much.

This RTS is getting alot of buzz lately, Easy Allies said they would buy a PSVR just for this game.

Dino Frontier

So, I caved in and ordered PSVR last night. I couldn't help it! Buyer's remorse, at least until Saturday, when I actually get the thing.

Set-up isn't a pain if you do it right. I use an HDMI splitter and have PSVR going to one HDMI and PS4 Pro to another. It avoids all the plugging and unplugging. Calibration is a breeze.

I picked up a nice 4K/ HDR passthrough HDMI splitter because i was having to swap out having cable, x1 s, ps4 pro, switch, and soundbar.

I now have my ps4 and switch on the splitter and with my remote that came with the splitter and it is a snap to go back and forth.

But I cant wrap my head around how I can have my PSVR included also. Did you habe to get any special cables to do this?

No special cables, just the splitter. The PS4 HDMI runs directly to the splitter. Output HDMI 1 runs from splitter to HDMI 1 input on tv. Output HDMI 2 runs to the PSVR box of horrors and back out to HDMI 2 input on tv. HDMI 1 is for PS4 gaming only and HDMI 2 for PSVR only.

Thanks for that...I will use that next time I play PSVR. This rocks my world as it was driving me nuts wanting HDR for game like Horizon and not easily jumping over to a PSVR game. I will use my headset a lot more now.

"PSVR box of horrors" HaHa!

Seriously, I can't believe that this thing can't pass HDR without doing this!

The link above can give you some additional details. This post gave me the idea to work around the whole HDR problem and he also links to some HDMI switches that are verified to work. Some work better than others.

It's almost the same reaction from the OP as that other thread "VR is better than I thought" type of response. I just think that the more people try VR it will be harder to dismiss.

I agree. It does seem like trying it out is key. They need to find ways to make that happen more easily, rather than just relying on owners demo'ing the unit for friends or having a limited number of stores with demo units. Must be time-intensive and tricky to get good demo units in stores, though, and you'd have to train the staff carefully ...

Also as the VR library goes over time, it'll get more and more enticing for people. Some of the negativity seems to come from people who bought a unit very early on and didn't like it, because the game experiences were fairly limited at that point. But the library seems to be building up pretty fast.

What games?
I just thought I'd start out with the :"digital code redeemable for the following PSVR titles: Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PSVR Mechanized Combat League, and PSVR World" that comes with the bundle.

What game would you suggest to get next?

Now, for the X-wing mission, I need to own Battlefront on PS4, correct? I already own it on Xbox. I guess I could look for a cheap copy on Ebay or something.

Oh cool you got the bundle.

Do VR worlds first, Ocean Descent, then Rush of Blood and RIGS last. Please don't do RIGS first. lol, you need some VR legs.

I recommend Batman, Eve Valyrie(if you like MP shooters) and RE7(if you do ok in Rush of Blood)

I'm betting the next time I hear from you either your mind will be blown or you got a little sick. lol
