The excitement hasn't really hit me until a couple of days ago. Now all I have been doing is researching games and features. Give me the xone already! I still don't know what games I'm getting on day one though!

On one hand, the sh!t talk should be kept to a mum. On the other, those sad little ones got the best of it all summer from Sony fans. Let them have 10 seconds of enjoyment.

For all the poor decisions that MS is accused of, at least they did one thing right, in overheating solution, by making a massive console, with a massive fan, & the power brick as an external unit.

Yup. This has been something i have been wondering about a lot. How Sony could pack it all into a very small box and MS having a huge box. Still though...maybe Sony DID succeed in it. We'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

Save your laugh until XBOX one ship at least. Ido not think teher will be overheating issue, but I will keep mum until then.
it cant overheat ive mentioned this 3 times this week. it will warn you its getting hot at a certain temp. it will shut off if that goes up too high. ontop of that the fan can go faster as it gets hotter to help.....

I meant to say, I do not think it will overheat, but there may be other issues. So better keep our fingers cross, & save your joy & laughter until then.

http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/14/faulty-ps4-consoles-reported-by-american-press-and-gamers-4186990/

The european press giving insight on XBOX ONE consoles:

"The Xbox One is released in the US on November 22, the same day as the UK, and most press, including us, already have their consoles. At the moment though there are no reports of any issues."

MS has done ALOT of testing, I think we'll see very few issues with the HW, as they say At the moment though there are no reports of any issues

So wait, there are reports that the PS4 is failing due to hardware, and people are "happy" about it? No one should have to deal with something like that, especially on a brand new system. Some people need to grow up. :smash:

I have my 65" RPTV in the living room that disagrees. It's 10 years old now, of course, but it still puts out a quality picture even though it only has 1080i and 480 i/p options.
Even so...your tv will interlace the progressive signal still. Why would a console output it? Pretty sure outputting 1080i is the same strain as 1080p on a GPU. I think because it alternates so fast there is no benefit to it.

I thought about the same thing also but we'll never really know just how big of an issue it is, on the flip side, people with issues are always the ones to make the most noise if you know what I mean?

Generally a happy customer is a quiet one.
In an age where anyone can become a celebrity on the internet for the stupidest of things (like Target shipping an xbox), it's not surprising that a few console failures would turn into a huge deal. There really is nothing to see here. This kind of thing has happened since the beginning of electronics and will always happen. it's just that now people bleat about it like spoiled sheep, and everyone else blows its importance up way beyond all proportion. Because hey, "it's a story!" No it's not.

Now if they start hitting something like a 5-10% failure rate (actual failure rate, not ratio of people you hear about versus people you don't hear about on Twitter), then it's a story. But that's really not very likely.

Not something people should be happy with, but with any electronics manufacturing you are going to suffer from a small percentage of defects that slip through QC, that's just the nature of the game... I don't think there has been any electronics in existence that have had a 0% failure/defect rate.

No way Xbox One gets a 7.5. No way--8 and up, minimum.
8 is definitely a minimum for the console itself. The only thing, I would think, they can really knock it for is price and power.

is why i don't think it will get above 8. kinect 1 annoyed me so much when having to repeat myself that i gave up on voice controls on the dash and it looks like i may well suffer the same problem with kinect 2.0.

No, it specifically won't. I can flip my DirecTV receiver to output in 720p or 1080p and as soon as I do that, the TV tries and then just gives a whole lot of screen garbage. Now, to be fair, this was all over component rather than through the DVI in so maybe that would handle it differently, but I'm not entirely sure that it matters much at this point.

While the validity of random internet posters is certainly suspect, it is cause for concern when multiple gaming outlets have already had system failures. Giantbomb, Kotaku, IGN, and allegedly Polygon have all already had failed systems. It is a legitimate cause for concern when failures are this prevalent with so few systems in the wild.

Seems its kicking some heat when you have a game running and on the menus, hopefully will be fixed with a firmware update. It will be interesting to see how the noise levels and heat compares with the XB1.

On start-up, the hardware is exceptionally quiet, but as you progress into gameplay, volume and heat does start to increase. PS4 also draws a fair amount of juice too - 80W at idle on the front-end menus (the "PlayStation Dynamic Menu" to give it its proper name), 95W based on in-game video playback, and around 110-120W during gameplay - that's about 10-20W more than the first release of the "Slim" PlayStation 3. Curiously though, bringing up the menu system while in-game sees another leap in power draw - up to the maximum of 140W.

The figures sound meaty but the reality is that PlayStation 4 remains fairly discreet throughout general gaming - easily quieter than a launch PS3 overall, but not quite as unobtrusive as the latest PS3 Super Slim model (when its Blu-ray drive is inactive, at least). Only when you run a game and then move to the menus does the system start to kick out some serious heat. We measured 50-degrees Celsius venting from the rear (better out than in, we say) with the casing itself heating up to 45 degrees - that's approaching launch PS3 territory.

Tested in a level, 23 degrees Celsius environment, the PlayStation 4 proved to be absolutely fine, with perfectly acceptable noise when playing just 1m away from the console and a very quiet experience indeed with the console 3m away. Our only concern is how things may stack up for those living in hot countries where the ambient temperature will be a lot higher, or how the hardware will perform in the summer months. Certainly, the notion of a game running simultaneously with the UI causing a surge in power consumption is very strange indeed and hopefully something that can be addressed with a firmware update.

oh i get your dilemma. The same issue with people with 1080i tvs with the launch PS3 scaler. I'm pretty sure both PS4 and Xbox One will be able to deliver an interlaced signal as both have good scalers.
