Rumor shut down.

Then again, not even Zampella knew last time, lol.

That's because the publishing rights for the first game were sold to EA.. Respawn gave up their right to have any control over where the game was published in that deal.

They've made it abundantly clear that they retain the rights to decide on future games.. and are now making it clear that they definitely didn't sell those rights to MS.

They didn't sell EA the franchise so they'd know.

Games with Gold coming to Xbox One is really cool, but also somewhat of a given. Cause it is undeniable that Sony 'gives away' many great games if you are a PS + member. Now i just hope MS will bring some very interesting games to it, cause i can't say GWG has been amazing so far, still very nice, but also very mild to PS +.

There's a big difference between selling the IP and EA nailing down publication rights for the franchise. That twitter post is irrelevant. It asked the wrong question. The appropriate question would be:

1) Has Respawn reached a long term deal granting EA publishing rights to the series?

2) If so, has MS reached a deal with EA to make sure those publishing rights are limited to the X1 platform as far as consoles are concerned.

While true.. we are talking about Respawn here.

2) If so, has MS reached a deal with EA to make sure those publishing rights are limited to the X1 platform as far as consoles are concerned.

Respawn outright stated it's just for the first game... they just re-iterated that today.

It is possible EA has a long-term publishing deal.. but everything Respawn has said suggests otherwise.. and even reading between the lines of EA's statements.. they don't have such a deal.. they want one, but I don't know why EA wouldn't just outright state it.

This was sort of asked

@VinceZampella Has MS signed an exclusivity deal applying to all/multiple future installments of the Titanfall IP? (think that covers it)

  2. Vince Zampella ‏@VinceZampella1h
@SpectacOptical no other game exists for us right now, we can worry about the next game once we prove ourselves with Titanfall!

They said they didn't sell off their IP rights. That's a non-starter. It says absolutely nothing about publishing deals. You are confusing the two.

Nothing they have said suggests as much.

I'm talking about MS having exclusivity there, not EA having a publishing deal.

Respawn has stated multiple times now that the console exclusivity is only for the first game.

That can certainly change.. but I don't think Respawn would repeat that if they didn't know it was true.

And that very much suggests the rumor may be correct. Vince doesn't usually parse words, especially on this issue. Here he goes out of his way to dodge that question with precisely the go to PR statement that every studio offers when they don't want to admit a deal has gone down behind the scenes.

I'm talking about MS having exclusivity there, not EA having a publishing deal.

Read my posts again please. This isn't about MS buying publishing rights. It's about EA potentially nailing down the rights to publish the franchise and MS inking a deal with EA separately, which is entirely, 100% out of Respawn's control. There is no chance MS bought publishing rights for themselves as EA would have dibs on that and there's every reason in the universe to expect them NOT to give that up for no good reason. The alternative is the far better, and more likely, scenario for all parties involved.

Respawn has stated multiple times now that the console exclusivity is only for the first game.

Not even close to true. See how Vince responded to the above tweet. That's a pretty big tell. He offers the standard cookie cutter PR response to a very, very direct question that he would normally shoot down without batting an eyelash. He is perfectly ok admitting there are future games in their plans when he clarified about the recent EA/MS deal for game #1, but all the sudden he is mum on all of that.

Read my posts again please.

You are so obnoxious.

You said "If so, has MS reached a deal with EA to make sure those publishing rights are limited to the X1 platform as far as consoles are concerned."... I said Respawn stated they haven't.

Have a nice day astrograd. Your 1,000 word posts that say what could be said in 1 sentence are aggravating on their own without your hypocritical "read my posts" crap.

you never watched the vid or read my text if you fail to understand what my problem with xbox one could be.

I watched that video, but the guy previewing there is actually very picky. If he liked it at the end of the day, it's pretty good sign. I'm not sure of other places, but it seemed like The Verge as a whole likes XB1.

I wouldn't be surprised - nor would I be surprised that this title ultimately runs either @ 900p or 1080p. It will be the only "killer" app out of all next-gen systems for the foreseeable future.

You obviously haven't heard of Zoo Tycoon.....

He forgets to mention though that the resolution difference barely/doesn't make any significant difference:

Sony president wasn’t expecting such a significant performance difference between PS4/Xbox One

So I was hoping from earlier this year that when games come out from third-parties– because that’s the best example, to look at the same game on different platforms– if there’s any slight performance difference on the two systems I’ll be very happy. I wasn’t expecting something like [what happened with] Call of Duty, 720p versus 1080p– that’s a significant difference. Or Battlefield 4, which is 900 versus 720 – 900 requires 50 percent more pixels to be rendered.”

“When you talk to game designers at Guerrilla, they would tell you it’s kind of traditional for shooters on consoles to include some aim assist [function] because of the lack of accuracy of the control and the lack of clarity in the graphics, but with 1080p and the power of PS4 you don’t need that,” the executive said. “So you actually have more control and the satisfaction level is higher. So when you’re shooting enemies, it’s all you. You don’t need to be able to spot the difference in resolution but it just feels great.

“That’s the difference; graphics isn’t just about making things look pretty, but it can make the gameplay better. Another example is in racing games, like Gran Turismo, when you see a long road ahead and it curves to the left or right, you can tell what’s coming thanks to the resolution and power of graphics. The improved draw distance gives you anticipation for what’s to come. So the power of hardware and graphics in some areas is actually very related to great gameplay experiences.”

- Sony president Shuhei Yoshida

1080p is so awesome it fixed the accuracy with console controllers?
Ikr! I had been a die hard mouse and keyboard fps player since doom 2 from 1995 and have recently within the last 3 years made the switch to console. As far what he said about not needing aim assist with 1080p res with a controller. That is the most "idiotic" statement I have ever laid eyes on. SMH

This Sony guy is something else. Yesterday he also released some PR moaning that he was disapointed in the scores the press gave some of the PS4 launch games. Did he seriously go there? Trying to influence the media into giving better scores? Who does that type of s***? Feeling very entitled i guess. Even worse is that towards the end of the interview he was even hinting tha people should pick up Knack. Yeah..... Why not just hand people a matchbook to burn their $60.00 too eh? Some say Sony has changed from their arrogant ways. Well not when you read stuff like this. Seriously, what a smuck. LOL.

Lol he did that? From day one i knew i didn't want Knack. Him telling me i should go pick it up, won't change a thing, lol.

"Yeah, it's disappointing to see some of the low scores," Yoshida told GamesIndustry.biz. "I haven't spent enough time reading reviews, but I would characterize them as mixed."

"And with this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly," he continued, "and especially since the online functionality wasn't ready until in the last couple days. So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores. It's disappointing but I don't think it's worrisome for the launch of the system.

"I've played through all of our games, Killzone, Knack and Resogun, and I totally enjoyed playing through these games. I'm now on my second run of Knack and Resogun at a higher difficulty - these games really grow on you when you play more. I'm very confident that once you purchase these games and play, you'll be happy that you've done so."

"[Knack] wasn't designed [to meet specific] review scores," Yoshida continued. "I was hoping Knack could score in the mid 70s and last I checked it's around 59-60, so I'm hoping it goes up. The game uses only three buttons to play, so it's not the type of game reviewers would score high for the launch of a next-gen system.

"The game was targeted as what we call a second purchase; you know, people may purchase PS4 for Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or Killzone, but if they also buy Knack, this is a game that you can play with your family or your significant other."

Resogun, a side-scrolling shoot 'em up from Housemarque, is currently the highest-rated PS4 exclusive, scoring an 82 Metacritic rating.

"At least we have one game that's getting great reviews," added Yoshida.

I'd like to give em sh!t for this, but console launches are usually always shaky from what I remember.

Still, that resogun thing is just a bit embarrassing.

The only issue with those questionable insiders is, others have PS4's and they're not overheating... Those insiders make it sound like all will overheat due to the consoles design.

Right now there are about 4k PS4's out there and we have a report of 8 I believe, more will come through, no doubt, but in percentage, let's say we had 15 fail, would that not be within an acceptable fail rate?
Just think of it this way Sony said failure rate is about .4%(of course they are going to say lower than actual but I'd still put it under 1%) and x360 failure was 8-10%. Take it that x360 sold about 1-1.5 million consoles by end of december where it's expected Sony will double that so total affecting maybe 20,000-40,000 consoles total multiplied by how much widely internet is used now to whine about things, I say if there is issue at this rate it won't be taken any better or thought of any better than RROD

Like I said, I hope the PS4 hardware problem is limited, but their basic PR line is eerily similar to something we've heard before.....and we know how that turned out:

A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

Maybe they bought publishing rights from EA Partners for the franchise? That at least would be consistent with the guy's statement that MS bought Titanfall outright, inasmuch as it couldn't be published elsewhere, without having control over the IP. Or it could be a misunderstanding, which might well be true. Firm believer in the "we'll see when we see" about stuff like this.
I always say, "What did MS get from EA for giving them rights to publish Mass Effect on PS3?"
This was a big thing and nothing is really known about the deal so MS gotta get something big in return.
