Microsoft At E3 2018

Would anyone play something like Halo: Fall of the Covenant? Campaign would follow the Covenant through the civil war, and multiplayer could be class based playing up the differences between the alien races.

Sounds like an interesting concept. Any rumors of something like this?

I think Rainbow Six and Doom showed that you could keep the unique identity of the original games and evolve everything else around it. Problem with Halo 5’s appeal is it didn’t really invent anything new that it changed. It borrowed from faster games. Gamers that prefer faster games liked Halo 5 but most turned back to other fast paced games. A lot of COD fans like Halo 5 better than classic Halo’s but those same gamers jumped back to COD when it released a few weeks after Halo 5. Halo used to have its own niche. Now it shares the same playing field as other more popular games.

I do think returning Halo to a classic sandbox helps mapmaking and campaign because there’s less variables to balance. More focus can be made towards enemies and dynamic environments when you don’t have to account for Spartan abilities and the game slows down. Can focus on making every square foot when there’s less square feet to focus on.

Finally, in the end Xbox needs more differentiators. Games that occupy their own niche. Not necessarily aim only for the most mass appeal checkboxes. If Halo 6 losses enhanced mobility, there will be other Xbox games to fill the void including Halo 5. It’s been a decade without a single great game mirroring the simple sandbox of Halo 3.

I'm not buying it. Like it or not, Halo has to share the landscape with COD and company. That said, it's not COD. The TTK in Halo has always been longer; that's the biggest reason COD players went back to COD. ADS isn't exclusive to COD either as people have been using ADS since the gun's invention; it's a natural extension.

As for Spartan abilities, their onset began as far back as equipment is Halo 3, so I think their absence is more of an unusual occurrence at this point.

Hell if I know. Just something I have thought about myself. In my opinion, MS has held their properties as too sacred. They need to not be afraid to run in new directions with them.

Look man. I'm not saying I know how to manage software teams for gaming....but in my mind ALL of Microsoft first party studios should be split in 2. Basically working on 2 games simultaneously with dynamic allocation for which project needs the resources at the given time (i.e. 300 person studio, 200 - 250 ppl working full time on Game A that is coming out short term and 50-100 working on Game B doing prototyping and failing fast, etc. Folks can be further allocated to Game A during crunch and then the numbers switch after Game A comes out to focus on Game B). This way you avoid IP fatigue/developer creativity fatigue and also get new ideas/new IP generated. Even if some teams are working on reviving old IP, I think this is a more efficient way to do things. Microsoft need to get away from the one team/one IP mantra which, in my mind, is a big part of the issue with first party. Also they need to acquire some studios (i.e. Playground), open some new studios, etc. Do it Microsoft! Commit to the platform!

Isn’t there like a handful of people here who are in the industry, I don’t wanna call them out but I know they’re out there, watching, lingering, laughing and pointing at tiny dogs with superhero custumes on

Dno69 joked about Gears as a kart racer. That would be fun, lol.

I never got into Gears, personally. I tried a couple times, but it's just not my thing.

I would be down for a Gears Kart game. Imagine Cole Train insulting peeps and giving them the Luigi Death Stare.
Epic.

Dunno...I think Flynn works/worked for Microsoft but not in gaming division as far as I am aware. I don't recall any actual devs here but I'm on sporadically so maybe I missed some good convos. If they are here, yes, they are likely laughing at me and my "armchair" dev comments :)

I think Plainview had concrete evidence of Flynn working at MS.

Bruv, I'm betting devs are laughing at at least 99% of the stuff they read on gaming forums.

From what I've heard, developers are mostly dismayed by what they hear on gaming forums. I suppose there's some chuckling at the ill-informed opinions, but I think a more common reaction is feeling dispirited and discouraged. The expectations are so high, there is so much negativity, so many complaints, and so little appreciation. I think a lot of devs just avoid forums, and I don't blame them.

if ms still a bit sparce on 1st party games, what 3rd party deals to get exclusives do u think MS may pull off?

splinter cell?
another dead rising?
maybe something from sega?

Nope. I didn’t like the direction they join with the Arbiter. I don’t want to hear their side of the story.

I pray to God an Epic employee visits our Fortnite thread.

I'd avoid them like the black plague if I were in a devs shoes. The other s***, I'd nearly die laughing every day.

Sega visited the Microsoft offices for some reason. Hopefully they have a project in the works.

Splinter Cell seems to be in the news lately. Given their history with Sam Fisher, they might arrange an exclusivity deal.

Hopefully funding games that wouldn't happen otherwise as opposed to just writing a check or some kind of exclusivity.

No. 343i did a marvelous job of expanding the controls while retaining the Halo spirit. It's nothing like COD. The core gameplay and flow is totally different.

I don't like COD and am a huge fan of Halo from the beginning. Halo 5s MP is fantastic to this day and I'd take it over any of the old games. Those are too slow now, but Halo does NOT need to be faster. Then it truly would be chasing that COD.

They need to concentrate on AI and enemy moveset improvements as well as buttoning up the campaign.

It's all about execution. I would like it as long as it didn't play exactly like Halo. In H2, there was basically no difference in playing as Arbie. I would be interested in the civil war story.

That's the issue I had with ODST- they played just like the Chief (albeit slightly weaker). There should be no situation where a human can melee kill an Elite or Brute without utter stealth surprise by themselves.

Yeah! Cause that will help.

A Mario Kart rip off Kart Racer, sure. MS needs one of those...and I want one.

I'd be stunned if we don't hear anything about Halo 6 this E3.

I don't think MS is going to let some disgruntled gamers hold them back from pushing their most successful franchises. They'll be talking about Gears and Forza, too, probably, and you could say the same thing about them. Halo is their premiere franchise. They have to be pushing that. The fanbase would love it.

Exactly. MS needs both the old guard and new stuff. Neglecting either of them is going to to garner negativity.

But Gears really needs to show something different. It needs to show evolution and fresh ideas.

Would you be satisfied with a new exclusive sonic all star racing with added cast from the MS portfolio, banjo, voodoo Vince, ori, ryse, etc?

Never played it. Is it as good as Mario Kart?

I'd take a Blur 2.

It’s honestly pretty fun, um, kinda more technical but enjoyable, none of this rubber banding and blue shells on the last lap fowl play by the a.i.

Blur 2 would be fantastic, but isn’t most of the former bizzare creation crew with either turn 10 and playground.

In my world turn 10 would give the keys to Sumo Digital, again, to the Forza franchise and just make a bonkers third/second sibling to the franchise only balls to the wall arcade like game like blur and include arenas like mario kart and some tracks that resemble those of the hot wheels dlc for horizon 3.

Dang, how will horizon 4 top that dlc?

Has there ever been a console exclusive Ubi game like Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell, or any other of their big titles? I don’t think so.
Conviction was exclusive to the 360.
