Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Don't understand why playstation folks still seems angry for the timed exclusivity of last game? Looking at forums and all that is mentioned is how great spider-man and uncharted are and how bad this game is (most haven't even played it) .. very strange behavior this.

Tomb Raider has a higher user score on PS4 than XBox. I'm not sure if what you're seeing is representative of reality.

Even with my disappointment I’m pumped for Friday. I get a lot of enjoyment from even mediocre Tomb Raider games. Plus, it’s win-win, as either the game will be amazing and I’ll keep it, or if not I’ll trade it in and use that money plus the $10 preorder bonus to get AC Odyssey

Not sure what the reviewers who gave it mixed reviews were expecting. Uncharted doesn't get docked points for being the same game essentially every time.

Oh well. Looking forward to picking this up for the X in the near future.

You may be misinterpreting some of the Uncharted fans being anti-Xbox. It's not necessarily an anti-Xbox thing, more an Uncharted vs. Tomb Raider thing. There's a long history of Uncharted vs. Tomb Raider.

Not saying that fanboyism isn't playing a role. There's definitely fanboys out there. I see it on the other side, too -- Xbox fanboys saying Spider-Man is a mediocre game that only got good reviews because it's a PS exclusive, and that if it weren't a PS exclusive, it would've scored in the 7's, etc. Not much to do about these people except roll your eyes.

Got more play time today after work. Already going under water. It puts you into action fast. The game is really good so far.

Looks like the 83 is sticking for the metacritic score. Also, the Xbox has more critic reviews than the PS version.

Looking at how the review platform has changed since the release of the Xbox One X:

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition critic reviews:

PS4: 54 critic reviews
Xbox One: 18 critic reviews

Now Shadow of the Tomb Raider:

Xbox One: 45 critic reviews
PS4: 42 critic reviews

The X factor is indeed in play here.

I thought it was because MS is paying for the game's marketing or whatever is going on. The commercials are always for the Xbox One.

That's not what I expected.
Interestingly we have a zero review on the xbox but reviewer speaks of his ps4...
80ish reviews on metacritic by users not sure if shows the real story. I do am surprised by the scores though.

I am surprised that many people bought the early access editions like myself. Money is no object it seems.

Look at this pic made by someone on the TR forum:

I believe the difference in ratings between the Xbox and PS4 versions of Tomb Raider is due to the console specific sites rather than X enhancements. PlayStation only reviews are comparing it to Uncharted and other well animated, crisper playing story driven games. Xbox sites are comparing this Tomb Raider to the last Tomb Raider.

Honestly after playing Uncharted 4, the animations don’t seem like they’re from the same generation. While Uncharted’s AI was nothing to write home about, the Last Tomb Raider’s AI was below average and reviews are saying this one isn’t better.

That makes sense.

I agree with that. Though I think the reason the platform the games are being reviewed on has been moving from PS to Xbox is due to X1X enhancements

Always felt uncharteds (even 4) animations looked and felt floaty (except cutscenes). Honestly stopped playing 4 after about 2/3 in, I just got bored for some reason. I do still love 2 and to a lesser degree 3 though.

Yeah, 4 wasn't as good. They lost Amy Hennig, turned it over to Neil Druckman and his penchant for family drama. Lost a lot of the fun of the series, imo.

Do you wanna make a bet? :-->:

Game is so good! Graphics are great, except for Lara’s face in some cutscenes, but I love the setting so much. One thing I didn’t expect was how much I love the sound design. Music and effects are great.

Giving it a go on hard mode and enjoying that so far. More immersive and not too difficult.

I'm installing now, but no updating for me.

I miss the days when games were shipped finished.

Well, several more hours in and I’m a little less excited. The reason why boils down to the fact that I fell in love with the 2013 Tomb Raider that was an uncharted clone but better most of the uncharted games (in my opinion!!).

This is trying really hard to be the TR from 20 years ago in that’s its way more of a puzzle game than anything else. Nothing wrong with that and it does it really well in a fantastic setting, but it’s just not why I got excited by the new TR games in the first place.

I've made it to the area where I'm walking around with the weird dude who yells at Lara a lot and just crossed a bridge. I'm liking it quite a bit so far, better than the 2 previous games. I'm playing with the environment and puzzle sliders on hard and it makes the game much better than having everything illuminated pointing everything out. I hope more games do this in the future.
