Shadow of the Tomb Raider

I’m also missing high quality graphics mode, picking between framerate and resolution is hard

Don't understand why playstation folks still seems angry for the timed exclusivity of last game? Looking at forums and all that is mentioned is how great spider-man and uncharted are and how bad this game is (most haven't even played it) .. very strange behavior this.

I guess they’re going by the mantra “why be informed when you can use your feelings as facts”....

Well I’m going to just own being the most annoying person in this thread and keep flip flopping, but after all my hating this game is starting to click with me.

I’ve made peace with the fact that this isn’t going to be the TR2013 uncharted clone sequel that probably only I wanted, and also settled on using high frame rate mode which is amazing. The result is I’m getting a lot of enjoyment from this game.

Like with Rise, the pacing issues are real. The game sets up a great story with a real sense of urgency, then immediately the pace slows to a crawl which feels so weird and wrong. However, once you adjust this is actually one of the more relaxing and at the same time entertaining games I’ve played in a while.

It’s just good times exploring, finding hidden tombs, crypts, and other areas. And the graphics are so freaking good that it’s all pretty amazing. What combat is there is really satisfying, and though I wish there were more I’m happy that they scaled it back from Rise.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll hate the game by tomorrow and if I do I’ll be back to tell you all about it!

Maybe if you play it on an xbox one x you'll enjoy it even more, I'm sure it looks semi okay on the weaker machine too though.

Oh of course I’m on X1X, I mean my wife would be so bored if she didn’t have to put up with me buying expensive gaming machines that she couldn’t care less about. Why did you think I wasn’t?

I keep getting annoying glitches like Lara constantly pulling out her weapon and putting it away, crouching while walking around the first hub, her light being switched on in caves with no visible light, and other random things. They still left the annoying input delay from the last game as well. I can't even update, so I may get too annoyed with it all before finishing the game. Damn all these companies shipping out games and attempting to fix them later.

You must need the patch. I have none of those issues.

I'm having fun with the game. I love the tombs and crypts. Went through one tomb that had a little jump scare. I won't say which one it is.

Yeah, 4 wasn't as good. They lost Amy Hennig, turned it over to Neil Druckman and his penchant for family drama. Lost a lot of the fun of the series, imo.

It was a great looking game and the established characters were all fine but Sam was annoying as hell and I hated his character, it would have been much better without him, maybe it was Troy Bakers voice work but he just really got on my nerves. Also wasn't a fan of the daughter thing at the end, just don't want her to be the future of the franchise if they continue it with another developer.

This Tomb Raider game is something I'll think about picking up once it gets a huge price cut, I loved the 2013 game but the last one was a big let down to me. Croft just wasn't an exciting character and the story wasn't all that interesting either. I am a bit disappointed with the animation in the videos, it looks like they've kind of cheaped out on it, watching her in the water there is no resistance to her movement at all and her running looks off as well.

Idk about your story complaints, because I rarely ever pay any attention to stories in games at all. I haven't noticed any changes in animations from the last game to this one. Not sure I understand the lack of resistance in the water stuff, but it probably has some of the best underwater controls of any game I've played in a long time. If you ever enjoyed any of the early games from the late 90's you'd really like the game. I'm probably only 25% through, and so far the constant shootouts that plagued the last 2 games has been drastically decreased in favor of explorations and puzzles like the originals had.

If you look at how she moves in the water it's just straight movements at normal speed, it's hard to animate under water correctly but it can be done and they haven't done it here at all. Same when she's moving with hear head popping out of the water, it just looks like someone on rails moving around vs someone naturally going through water. Her running reminds me of how one of my nieces ran when she first learned how, looked like little hops instead of taking real strides lol. I'm glad you are enjoying the game, if it has more puzzles I probably won't like it as much as I did the 2013 game.

I wasn't a fan of the Sam character, either. I didn't like the way they dropped him into the series out of nowhere and made him a lead character. The first couple hours of the game, where they established the backstory with the two boys, was just tedious to me. I don't care about their childhood. I didn't like the end, either. Too domestic. I understand they wanted to wrap the story up, but it was a very dull way to do it. The action was fine, although I thought the shooting controls felt off somehow. I kept fiddling with them and never got them to feel right.

Anyhow, don't mean to get off topic. I'll wait for a price drop on TR, too. I don't attend so much to the animations as you do, but I agree about characterization and story. I'm sure I'll enjoy it eventually at a discount, but I finished RotR not too long ago, and I can wait a while to play this one.

Yeah if you just played Rise I can see where your coming from, that game was such a letdown. Boring story, terrible collectathon gameplay, and just the worst setting. My ranking so far would be TR 2013 followed closely by Shadow, then wayyyy down there would be Rise.

I don't see or notice anything wrong with the animation above and below water and I'm someone who complains about everything. If anything, you'll be glad she's able to get around in the water well because of the piranhas.

Yeah the animations are top notch. Probably best graphics on console as well.

The lack of people playing this game and talking about it is OFFENSIVE. The reviews were way too harsh on this game and many people won't even bother to check it out because of it.

I'll pick it up later. I'm trying to 100% Spider-man. I don't want to jump into another semi-open world prior to Red Dead coming out in another month. I'll either play some unfinished games or start an RPG title on the PC.

I bought it Day 1 for the PC. I'm enjoying it but I'm also trying to juggle it with Persona 5 and a bunch of other rpgs.
