Analyst predicts PS5 in 2018

Damn, he really wants those clicks, lol. It didn't look like Pachter was even saying that was a prediction, though it's such an absurd thing to say. Even in two years, that will not happen at console prices. I'd even be skeptical if we saw current gen games on (super high end)PC @240 fps FFS by 2019.

Hell, will getting current gen graphics @60fps be enough for a next generation machine? I don't think so. It will take a lot to get a generational leap over the Pro.

I think so too, that's why I think we'll have another "refresh" console before a proper leap is made to a "next gen" type of machine. Hell the best stuff on PC right now as far as GPU goes on paper far more powerful than even the X1X GPU but the games on the highest settings at true 4K don't really blow away what consoles have now, they look better yes but a generational leap? I wouldn't say that. Sony could probably release an 8TF machine in the next two years at a consumer friendly price but that's still just going to be a small step when compared to what a true "new gen" difference would be. Of course games look so good now it's going to take a lot to really make the equivalent of a generational leap anyway without a really big increase in power.

Honestly, I think these two "refresh" consoles will lengthen the "generation". Gettting graphics up over 1080p will afford all games a great Image quality. It's a great baseline moving forward. It's just going to take a LOT more power to get to those appreciable Jumps in graphics. An to be blunt- that means visually. Not from a framerate standpoint. Frame-rates will only appeal to the harder core. As long as it's not a stuttery mess, the visuals are going to the factor that sells. The next console generation will have to double or triple the power. Think about that- 5x was 6TF (X1 to X1X). Now 2x is 12TF, let alone 3x at 18TF. Yeesh.

Of course, I really hope we get more focus on stinkin' physics and physics-based animation and AI. We won't get more growth in the industry until they upend the oxcart a bit, imo.

Whatever happened to physics processing units? weren't those a thing at one point? Yeah the things you are looking for need to come with more capable CPU's and that doesn't seem to be realistic in the console space right now. That guy Matt over at neogaf said both MS and Sony were unhappy with the way the jaguar's turned out when it comes to performance for the X1 and PS4 but it was basically the only option they had at the time. In the next 2 years they could probably get a Ryzen that would work in a console and not drive up the cost but as long as the games have to work on the base consoles there is no point in upgrading the CPU since devs really can't take advantage of it.

Well the PS4 has shipped 63 million. Feels like yesterday they announced 60 million sold. I can see Sony laughing all the way to the bank and holding off on PS5 until 2020, only to crush the competition again. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

2019 or 2020 confirmed

That was not what he said. He was saying that the models are being made to be future proof, and that they would stand up to an 8k resolution. Makes sense, as PD take a long time. This way they won't need to be remade. I can't believe these people have jobs...

Guy got that wrong. He's just saying they are future proofing their assets. You know, making them highly detailed- likely more detailed than what they can use during gameplay- because they will be building off of these for years. He makes no statement about the actual PS5...

What a ridiculous video. All the article says is the assets are over specced for future proofing, Which makes perfect sense not just for GT sport but also other GT games in the future.

The 8k comment is merely context, it ilustrates how over specced they are. Which again makes perfect sense for a game that always seems to take an eternity fo release.

This news will hopefully mean a new GT will come quicker than we expect.

I think I read somewhere that they are fully focused on Sport and it's upcoming DLC...

A lot of gamers don't even have 4k sets yet.

That isn't even the problem. Not even PC is capable of high tier 4K gaming across all games yet, let alone 8k gaming from a single GPU. Not to mention the big jump in bandwidth they would need...which I don't think current memory solutions are even capable of yet.

Didn't say it was the problem, just stated it.

If PS5 is out before 2019 I'll eat one Plainview's socks.

Yeah, not happening. It's fun to speculate, but i don't think anyone actually thinks there's a chance of seeing PS5 anytime soon. Sony will ride their current success into the ground. Just like Microsoft did with the 360. If Microsoft had pushed for next gen sooner then you would have seen Sony counter with PS4 before 2013 but they had no reason to. Same applies here. Don't think Sony would care if Xbox One X takes over the market and wins some NPDs here and there in the coming years. PS4 will continue to sell well regardless.

Does anyone besides this bonehead analyst think PS5 is coming in 2018? I've never heard anyone in their right mind say that. It makes no sense at all.
