Andy's Thread of Obscure Games No One Cares About

No, I wasn't being serious. Goofing. It got a metacritic of 49.

Although I do think it's the kind of game I might play, if it's cheap enough and I'm bored enough. I occasionally like experimenting with games like that. Sometimes, the badness is goodness.

I didn't notice anything particularly effeminate about Adam's Venture, but I think you're more sensitized to effiminacy than I am, which I assume is repressed homosexuality on your part. I did notice the Christian themes (reviews commented on that).
With animations like that, should be renamed Adam's Venture: Arthritis Edition

Not much of a looker there. I get the feeling if there is video available it may offer some unintended comedic action sequences. I think I am going to stick to visiting Tamriel for my medieval fix.
I've long believed that with a bit more streamlining and some great visuals, Mount and Blade could really take off. Can you Imagine if the game looked and moved Like that For Honor game coming up?

It's hard to buy into the authenticity of the game-play when it looks so janky. Any immersion achieved in control is lost when they look and move so artificially.

"Hello friends, my name is David OReilly. I’m an artist based in Los Angeles and am from a town called Kilkenny in Ireland. Some of you might be familiar with my films, most of which are short or very short, and more might be familiar with the video game sequences I created in the movie Her. Mostly I am concerned with the medium of 3D and it’s effect on our brains.

"I have been working on a new project for a long time with some very talented people, and I’m excited about sharing it with you today.

"In Everything, every single thing is a playable character; if you can see it, you can be it. The game lets you see the entire universe from the point of view of the thousands of things in it. In other words, there is no distinction between you and the world, or between a level and a character. All these things experience and interact with the world differently."

"Everything lets you be anything you want. If you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a horse, or a paperclip, or the sun, this is for you. Your main power in the game is Being (there are more but I won’t ruin the surprise)."

"Everything is a game in which everything you see is a playable character. The game allows you to be anything you want and experience the same world through thousands of points of view."

"The developer explains that almost every other game out there using standard game engines simply place things around the environment that are static and non-interactive, his game however does the opposite with everything around the game's universe.

It's announced as exclusive to PS4 at the moment, although I believe it's coming to PC as well.

Announcement trailer:

So.... There's a game in there? Its a ring based puzzle game with hundreds of skins?

Is there a game?

Its pretty though.

I paid $80 for Fantavision on the PS2 to watch fake fireworks.

Here, this will help clarify:

"Everything is a game about the things we see, their relationships, and their points of view. In this context, things are how we separate reality so we can understand it and talk about it with each other."

I hope that helps.

Mr. O'Reilly refers to the game as a "consciousness simulator." Duuude.

In addition, he reports that the game is launching "in the future."

This game sounds very vague and very, very, very boring. I would probably get more enjoyment out of a flash game about the day in the life of a high school janitor.

I've had my eye on this game for what seems like forever. Out now on Steam for less than $12. Out on everything else, soon I guess?

Might want to avoid it. Or see if there's a demo to try out first.

Game is getting killed in reviews. General consensus is cool visuals and art, but awful gameplay and level design. Not a Castlevania substitute after all.

Wait for it as part of a Humble Bundle.

I can't get the link to work (that exclamation mark won't link), but you can search it yourself at MC.

Damn. That's too bad.
I think they even had a Vita version planned.

I may still get it at some point. @ $12 I'd still get some enjoyment out it.

Yeah, I was wary of it too. The trailer for the game starts out nice, but after about 20 seconds, you start to get this gut feeling that the game is trying too hard to look like a game you'd like to play. And then you look at the reviews and realize it really was a trap. Like one of those cheaply advertised Adult Swim games that makes it onto Steam every now and again.

I would probably get more enjoyment out of a flash game about the day in the life of a high school janitor.

I'll see if I can find one for you....

Here's one where you play as a space janitor, boldly going where no man has gone before, and cleaning up alien guts.

I took these screenshots the other day, from the game Hyper Light Drifter. Excellent game so far, amazing soundtrack and recommended for anyone looking for a nice challenging action game.

On PC now, coming to PS4/XBO soon:

Hyper Light Drifter sounds quite good. I've had my eye on it for a while, although I lost track of it and didn't realize it had been released on PC. It might be a little too hardcore or old school for me, but it does sound like a quality game.

A friend of mine has been talking that game up quite a bit.

It's not super hard from what I've played, but it is definitely out of the button masher category.

I just found out Adam's Dentures doesn't even have any shooting or fighting.

"It’s important to note that there is no combat whatsoever. Adam doesn’t throw a single punch, let alone hold a gun, throughout the entire game."

Come on, man. If you're going to have a sh*tty looking game with sh*tty animation, the least you could do is have some sh*tty gunplay and sh*tty brawling to go with it.

Are we sure the game isn't called Bellybama's ventures?

No telling where that venture will take you. I'm pretty sure I don't want to know.

Adam's Dentures turns out to be a puzzle/exploration game, similar in ways to the original Tomb Raider, but without the charm and boobs, and 20 years too late.

I hope Belly took that as the joke it was intended to be. I thought about it afterwards like maybe it didn't come off as planned.

I'd hang out with Bellybama. No wine though.

It's hard for me to imagine Bellybama taking offense at anything. Except maybe right-wing conservatives, bad haircuts, or unimaginative porn.

Andy Surprisingly, Viscera Cleanup Detail is actually a really great and popular game despite just looking like a silly parody video game. They even got permission from Devolver Digital Games to use their game Shadow Warrior for their next cleaup lol. I'm gonna have to try this game just to see what the fuss is about.

"I'm too old for this s***." lol

I almost died laughing as soon as i clicked on the space janitor game vid. Look at the physics on that mop.

Dizzy playable in GGXrd Revelator.

The game now has 23 characters? 3 new characters were added plus Johny, Dizzy and Jam are coming back. All the characters I play with are now in the game besides Baiken.

Current gen consoles are really picking up in the games department. So many games and so little time.

Oxenfree

Oxenfree is coming to PS4 on May 31. It's already been released on PC and Xbox One. The PS4 version has some improved features, including a New Game+ mode that "continues the story beyond the traditional 'ending' into different locations, conclusions, and a completely tweaked understanding of the events on the island."

Oxenfree is the debut game from Night School. The developers describe the game as "centering on a girl named Alex who brings her new step-brother Jonas to an overnight party on a decommissioned military island that goes horribly wrong. It’s a supernatural mindscrew of an adventure with tons of different outcomes and story paths that let you shape Alex’s life, the fabric of time and space, and the fate of a bunch of really pissed off ghostly creatures. Think Freaks and Geeks but with possession, time loops, and terror."

I'm looking forward to it. I've heard good things.

I almost bought Oxenfree for X1 when it came out but I was deeply involved in a couple games at the time and then promptly forgot about it. Glad to see it's coming to PS4 with some extras, everything about it fits into my wheelhouse. If I recall the game was $19.99 on X1 and runs about 4 hours.

Dangerous Golf

Dangerous Golf is coming to PC, Xbox, and PS4 in June 2016. It's the first game from Three Fields, a studio formed by former Criterion heads Alex Ward and Fionna Sperry.

Don't get confused -- it's not actually a golf game. They specifically say they intended not to design a golf game. It's sort of like crash mode applied to interior environments, using a golf ball. There are no golf courses. There are environments like a china shop, a kitchen, a bathroom, a gas station, and a palace. Points are awarded for trick shots and destruction. The point isn't to make par, but to score points and cause destruction.

Here is some gameplay footage, cued up:

Looks kinda fun. It's a downloadable title. I'm not sure of the price.

There are 100 "holes." I wonder how long the mechanic would stay fun for -- would it wear thin after 20 holes or so? Hard to say. Although I loved Burnout, I never bothered with the crash mode for more than a few runs. The main draw of this game would be the destruction itself. It might be fun to replay the "courses" and see if you could do trick shots or get higher scores. Again, not sure how long that would amuse me.

They said if the game succeeds, their next project will be a racing game -- meaning, I think, the spiritual successor to Burnout. Hopefully, they'll do that whether this game succeeds or not.
