"Azure Servers are the Real Deal". ~ Respawn Engineer

Ketto and VaLL are missing one smaaaallll little detail with their comparisons: with every game he mentioned, he could still play each one of those games off line and the AI would still react the same. Has he even tried doing the same thing with Titanfall? Lets try playing Titanfall unplugged from the internet and see how that works out. ;) The grunts and many other details are Cloud powered. Plain and simple. So yes. Azure was/is needed.

Using it is one thing but NEEDING it is another.

Sry but this doesn't make any sense.

Why would they use it if they don't need to - especially with a more easy solution (local processing) at hand?

Clearly they had a goal in mind - and in order to achieve it they had to use the cloud

Now we dont need Cloud, like we dont need Kinect, like we dont need TV integration, like we dont need controllers, like we dont......you know what? Nevermind! Microsoft? Time to clock out, you be fired! Wrap up the XBO and go back to Walmart as security personnel.

Serious here, but do we need Kinect and TV integration ? they seem more like nice additions rather than necessary features. The controller on the other hand is obviously a necessity, and the Cloud at least in its most simple form ( dedicated servers) is needed too-what MP gamer would say otherwise?

I havent played either versions, BETA or the final. But even I, someone who has no idea how hardware in consoles or PC's work, understand what Respawn and others, are able to accomplish with the Cloud. It just takes some "thinking out of the box". ;)

And thinking out of the box is what you can only do since you've never played any of the games to actually give a valid personal opinion.

Again. READING AND COMPREHENSION VS. GAMING = TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLDS!

You yourself havent even played the final. And yet, here you are. But thats alright. You dont really need to play the game to READ AND COMPREHEND how the Cloud is actually a benefit. You got lucky......this time.

So EA couldn't afford the dedicated servers or is it the rumored $50 million EA got paid to keep TF exclusive?
Eh.. what?

EA is the publisher but they don't own the game. Respawn do. I'm sure at some point they looked at the EA setup for dedicated. They also looked at Sony. They settled on a scale-able service they could afford and have gone on record saying that. You flat out said the game would be possible without the cloud. Respawn have categorically stated they could not have afforded dedicated servers without the cloud. You called them liars and are referencing some obtuse comment about a rumored payoff as in fact being right?

LOL

That scale-ability is one of the big bullet points for cloud usage in general. That ability to instantly scale up and down when needed is a feature many companies will adore as they go through peak and low times of the year. I'm actually surprsied EA don;t use it as they love to remove server usage as soon as they can.

Redesigning a long term bunch of existing infrastructure to become scale-able on demand is no easy task. I'm currently on project doing just that!! :(

The PC has varying hardware set ups. you state more powerful CPU's but the requirements to play go as low as a dual core CPU so the computational offsets help here too.

So we agree there's a lot to gain from the cloud even when it comes to PC gaming.

Pfffftt.. Amateurs. You just connect the red and blue wire..done.

Seriously though, I imagine it isn't, but what a feature to have at your business fingertips. What is it you do, like a Cisco network engineer or something ?

If you ever hopped into a Quake 3 or UT online MP match with bots back in the day then congrats you too have experienced server based AI *mindblown.gif*

This isn't PC though. This is console. We haven't had this "cloud" feature on console with 300,000 Azure servers. I mean, that's great that it's been on PC...but we are not talking PC. We are talking Xbox console.

Middleware engineer/architect. I work with unix/linux OS and java enterprise apps mostly.

yeah.. lol...

It's like the dark art of IT. It's all the crap that sits in the middle to makes everything work that nobody really knows about. Hence, middleware... ;-)

LOL..yeah. I assume you basically make, create, build systems in order for things to work right. What does that take, like a bachelors degree in programming or computer science or something ?

Yeah that's basically it. I've very little college. nearly all of my experience is from on the job. I started in desktop support about 20 years ago. Moved into this role about 5 years ago and I love it.

Awesome. Can't beat on the job learning and experience.

Wow people are still in doubt. That is OK and all. They will be more games that will show more.

I still think Forza's usage f the cloud is great. Imagine using that same feature in a fighter, or an RTS or another MP game with a BOT mode. So like playing Horde in gears of war but instead of A.I you play with your friends created A.I persona. Awesome :bang:
