"Azure Servers are the Real Deal". ~ Respawn Engineer

Again, sorry to hear that. But Im not a tech head. Not in the slightest. But I DO understand how its helping developers. Not sure what to say to you from that point... I suggest reaching out to Respawn developers on Twitter or something. I simply cant elaborate more on the subject mate. Fo real.

I've spoken to Jon Shiring on Twitter. He spent a week sleeping at MS in Seattle during the Alpha and Beta and another week for the launch. He didn't see his family or sleep in his own bed for really 9 straight days on two occasions within 1 month. So now are you telling me that the cloud is magically reducing his workload? lol

For reference, he is the head engineer running the cloud implementation of titanfall.

You don't know what you're talking about, son.

Fo real.

Drivatar in FM5 on Azure is another great example of the use of the Azure cloud, for console.

Yeah, it has a pretty big impact. Never will you see the same behavior in a race.

I think the cloud will make its big mark when a game is realized like Skyrim, but the AI can be computed in the cloud. Imagine a game where each town is a living, cloudbased entity... it can evolve, devolve, live on its own when you aren't there. Other player actions could cause changes, etc... I think, like Kinect, that the cloud service just needs to find its niche

I was saying that the servers are part of what it brings to the table. Cloud service generating procedural content could in theory do what you've referred to there. But there was a lot of hyperbole from MS on the cloud over the last year so who knows when or if we'll ever see this kind of stuff coming.
one good thing about Microsoft servers is they also maintain them and manage the servers for you. so for a small firm like Respawn, they don't have to tie up their staff running and maintaining those servers. they can focus 100 on the game and improving the game going forward.

Here is a question you may be able to answer....Would the cloud be able to do large scale procedural content. Say for example, could it be able to build the Just cause world entirely in the cloud ?

In theory you could run procedural content from cloud servers for game sold on disk/DD. I'd have no idea on the scale of it though. I'm presuming this is what some of those MS types were referring too when they were hyping the cloud service.

K.

Jesus Christ! Read the interview with Respawn! They've mentioned it many times, not to mention Microsoft! f*** all!!

I dont need to manufacture information when its so readily available just by doing a bit of research. Dont "son" me. Fo real! And because a real industry professional had to spend the night in Seattle away from his family for 9 straight days on two separate occasions doesnt tell me s***! He knew what he was getting into when he signed up, just like any professional in any industry worth its salt. So that tells me f*** all! DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW HIS WORKLOAD?! DID HE EAT MCDONALDS ON EITHER VISIT?! WHATS HIS PANTS SIZE?!

Point is, we dont know what his workload consists of, or the particulars of his work assignments... Maybe the Cloud provides no benefit to his actual job description other than saving money. Honestly. Who knows?.........Really?! Dont talk down to me because I understand what I read. Bottom line....

Do the research. Thats all I can say on the matter....

Yep. 100%.

I havent got to play Forza 5 yet.

I haven't either :( but you can tell just from videos what this aspect brings to the franchise. I was watching some dude streaming it and saw about him do 6 races in a row and not once could I predict what would happen in the corners. Something I could do with high accuracy in previous titles.

It certainly seems to mimic a more real life race. People ducking in on the inside and people trying to take on the outside. none of that stick to race-line in all circumstances from previous titles. Unpredictable behaviour resulting in some epic crashes/pile ups and near misses as people race past a crash on the Spa straight at 140mph.

Just looks Epic.

What you describe is a small revolution in and of itself because it transforms the whole experience.

I guess this technology is still in it's infancy - can't wait to see what's next.
But I agree, we need more demos and detailed explanations not more PR.

Do understand why a lot of people don't understand what all the fuss is about.

It is certainly something, not sure what to label it as though. A.I for me is one of the things that ruins games. It is either totally dumb or very predictable or just flat out cheats ( COD on highest difficulty). It is the one thing I WANTED to see majorly improved this gen.
