"We are not the zombie game you think we are." Good.

Looking forward to hearing more about the game's systems, weapons, story, and world.

Stolen from Resetera. New info, from GI. I've bolded the stuff that was of interest to me (ymmv).

- Been in development for five years
-First idea after making Uncharted Golden Abyss
-More than 100 developers, team size has doubled since 2016
-Picks up several years after a pandemic has ravaged the US.
-People infected by virus are simply called "infected" by NERO(National Response Organization)
-NERO operated 12 checkpoints for quarantining and processing people, but now abandoned
-Deacon has a mercenary friend named Boozer
-Plot is about surviving, not finding a cure

-Stealing Boozer's stuff will make him upset, which will effect your relationship
-Five encampments in the world which Deacon goes between, has to forge relationships
-Have to clear out locations to unlock fast travel
-Weapons look worn down because of the rain
-Larger towns to explore
-Weapons lockers and safehouses which refill ammo
-Deacon can scout camps with binoculars
-Deacon is the enforcer of a biker club called the Mongrels
-Bike is completely upgradeable with cosmetic upgrades such as paint jobs. Can increase fuel efficiency and durability, swap out tires based on weather
-Can ambush camps
-Shotguns, sniper rifles, molotov cocktails, pistols, LMGs, grenades, napalm

-Freaker-ear bounties, hunting animals, camps to clear
-Flashback missions where you learn about Deacon's past with Sarah
-Ambush camps are bad, encampments are good

- Ambush camps will attack you roadside(marauders)
-Freakers are drawn to dark places such as tunnels and will make nests
-Only way to clear freaker nests is via molotovs, gas cans, oil drums
-Deacon has "survival vision" which highlights items of interest, can be upgraded to highlight enemies
-Deacons stamina, health, time slowdown are upgradable
-Radio towers that you can climb
-No fetch quests or time trials, everything has context
-Hordes are scattered throughout the world.
-300 zombie hoard is a "baby hoard" , E3 2016 demo had 500
-Hordes need to eat, sleep, and drink. Travel in groups.
NERO mass grave was where they were in demo

Nothing really grabs my interest as it all sounds rather generic at this point. We'll see how it's all implemented though.

When is this games release date? I feel like they announced this in 2014.

It was announced in 2016. Lol your memory is appalling.

Another GI cover for a PS4 exclusive,on a bit of roll GI are atm. This one unlike Spidey and God Of War has the most to prove and the fact they said they have plenty of video content to show will be important to getting a better glimpse into this game.

About a third of the reactions on the Resetera thread I pulled that list from were along the lines of "eh, another Ubisoft template game." I get what they're saying, but you can't tell what the game is like from a bunch of bullet points. At a superficial level, a lot of open-world games can sound very similar on paper -- you conquer outposts/territories, you upgrade stuff, you deal with friends and enemies, you have assorted guns/bows and explosive devices.

But everything depends on how the individual elements are handled and how it all meshes together. You can't tell how a game will actually feel, just by looking at a bunch of bullet points.

I'm hoping for something good, but we'll just have to wait and see. Sony Bend created one of my old favorites, Syphon Filter, so I'm rooting for them. They seem to be facing an uphill struggle with the pushback about "eh, more zombies" and "eh, another Ubisoft game."

I'm really looking forward to this game, it looks awesome and I like that it's got a serious tone vs being arcade like. BTW the wolves look pretty damned good for a video game, they aren't cartoonish in appearance the way they are in so many other games lol.

I'm glad this was delayed to next year though, with RDR2 and Spider-Man coming out this fall there was no place for it to release where it wouldn't be overshadowed by other open world games. I'm guessing it'll be a March/April game as Sony tends to release a big game around that time.

I don't think that's going to win over any skeptics. But it did make me feel a little more positive about a zombie game.

That was a weeeiird interview. Garvin seemed a bit overwhelmed there? Maybe lacking confidence? I don't know, it was probably too short a clip but the thought bubble I kept seeing from his head said "I am soooo out of a job if this game isn't a success. Please stop asking me these questions."

5 years on a project, the pressure must be insane for him.

Sony Bend Doubles Down on Days Gone Release Window

Last time they doubled down on the release window, the game was delayed from late 2017 to early 2018.

I guess they like doubling down on things.

I don't remember ever seeing them give a release window, Shu did but I never saw anyone from the actual studio say anything about it, hell at E3 last year (I think it was E3) they were pretty big on not committing to a release window.

Yeah, he seemed a little sweaty. And some of the questions seemed to fluster him or catch him off guard. The content of his answers was fine, but the style (the way he said it and came across) was not that great. I don't think the clip is going to win over any skeptics.

He's just not someone who can project a lot of confidence when he's being interviewed on camera. That's okay, neither am I. But it's going to hurt the sales and reception of his game, unfortunately. A not-insignificant part of God of War's success is Cory Barlog himself and his ability to speak comfortably to the press and come across confident but not cocky, likeable, funny, etc. I don't think this fellow can do that.

I think it was Sony who "doubled down" the first time. Actually, though, unless I'm mistaken, it's been the same website and author that posted both articles -- so it's more a matter of headline phrasing than anyone actually "doubling down" on anything. I guess the writer likes the phrase "doubles down." Last year it was "Sony Doubles Down on Days Gone Release Date." Now it's "Sony Bend Doubles Down on Days Gone Release Date."

I thought the interview was good. Nice and honest. Maybe I watched a different interview.

Yeah, I thought he made some good points. I'm kind of tired of zombies in my TV/Movies part of entertainment but I would still like a great zombie/survival game. Its the reason I'm getting pumped for State of Decay 2.

I'm playing God of War right now and its open world'ish. And before that I went from Wticher 3 to Horizon. All those games look and play so differently so no I'm not experiencing open world fatigue. At least not yet. If Days Gone has a good story but even more importantly fun gameplay it will be another hit for Sony. But we have to wait until next year to find out.

Just different perspectives. You may have noticed, we often have different perspectives on the same thing. :)

I'm really liking how it looks, the skin on the character models faces is really impressive.

"30 fps?"

Yes

"PS Pro Enhanced?"

Yes

"How so?

30 fps

LOL

"Does it run in 4K?

Yes

"Checkerboard?"

Yes

"What is that?"

I have no idea what that means, I am just told to say that.
