Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Appreciation thread

Holy crap, I can't do it. I can't beat the final Boss. I tried for 2 hrs, watched youtube videos, etc., and I just can't do it. So frustrating? Especially because I adored the first 2/3 of the game. It just got too hard for my tastes.

Damn.

Final boss spoiler: (only read if stuck)

Use Dixie`s special move L or R (Kong-POW) when enemies around (need bananas to fill up) this will turn enemies into hearts. I found this a great help against the final boss as I could get hearts I lost back when he sends enemies towards you

I've never been able to do her special move. When I have Dixie, I hit L and R together when the yellow meter is full. If I hit R by itself, DK tries to grab. Nothing happens when I hit L by itself.

I'm confused.

Hmmm, maybe look at configurations for controller (could be that have changed). And does L alone do anything ?

Nope. But I'm probably doing something wrong. I'll try again tonight. Thanks for your help.

Edit: I just realized that I've been hitting the triggers, not the bumpers, when trying to do Dixie's move. Bear with me, I just got my Wii U, hahaha. When DK is by himself, can you still do this move to refill health? Thanks again.

You are Welcome. I did just delete some of my before posts because did not see edit at first and did feel looks a bit cleaner starting from scratch.

As write before alone Donkey Kong can not do the special move "Kong POW". Dixie has to be there for refilling hearts.

Here is the great thing about this, you can fill hearts beyond the normally max hearts, can get double of that, sow normally you have 4 or 5 (with extra heart) if you collects more they will stack on top of those hearts and now you can get 8 (and 10)

Just beat the first world, but there's a couple levels I need to unlock. Game is amazing for me, just feels so old school, yet looks so gorgeous. I can tell you now I'm simply not good enough, or patient enough for every collectable, but I'll try!

Just how DLC opened all that stuff is beyond me ? Must be some kind of 2D gaming genius with 6 fingers on each hand lol

After probably 4 hrs, I finally beat the final Boss. Grueling. I barely, barely had the skills necessary. I can't imagine ever wanting to play the last 1/4 of this game again, particularly that Boss.

On to Mario 3D World.....

And of course, Dark Souls 2 and Titanfall.

Honestly I find the X1 and Ps4 boring at the moment. The Wii U has more games than either console IMO. I could easily game on the PC and buy a Wii U except most my friends and family game on a console. The X1 and PS4 are selling based on hype and graphics IMO. Titanfall and Infamouis are cool but it's certainly not worth spending over a thousand just to play them.

On the Wii U and very much all (except some of the snes games and specially DKC 2) this is my favorite 2d game. Music, bosses, the graphics, difficulty it is just sow perfect for a game like this, wish there was more 2d games as DKC Tropical Freeze.

How difficult is achieving 100% compared to the previous? I loved the difficulty in the first one.

Are at 96 % myself, it is harder than DKC 1-3 to get everything. Some of the K-Levels sure are way harder than any level I can rember from the previous games. Missing much puzzle pieces not sure how much that would make in % as I have two secret levels left to complete.

Ah nice, that's good to hear. The real early games aren't too fresh in my mind, did you play the last DK on the Wii? I loved the difficulty in that one towards the end.

Did buy the DKC for Wii yes, since is backwards with the Wii U, but have not played too much, bought it just some weeks before DKC: Tropical Freeze arrived, may have to return to play that game.

I really love this game, I started a new game with my nephew, he's 12 and plays the hell out of DKC Returns. We just beat the World 3 boss... And we currently have 0 balloons..

Some things are easier with 2 players, some more difficult. I definitely die way more with my nephew, that's for sure.

Just got to World 5. World 4's boss gave me trouble, I admit.

reading the difficulty comments has turned me off from this game. I'm buying a Wii u for Mario kart but was considering getting one sooner to play this and Mario 3d. Now I dont know, not in the mood to be frustrated with this game

It's not frustrating for me. I have like 90 lives on my single player file. I really wouldn't let difficulty put you off. It is definitely challenging, the bosses take a couple tries to get the patterns down, but not really frustrating.

My fiancee bought me this for Easter, only had time for a couple levels, seems like a fun game but I can see this getting pretty challenging, I already died a few times in the 3rd level. I think for now I am just going to play through each level and collect what I can then go back for all the hidden stuff I miss. I think just beating the levels at this point will be challenging enough
