EA Access on Xbox One.

Also, it's not 'free early access to games', it's paid access to what essentially amounts to elongated demos.
Well, unlike demos it's the full game with no parts missing.

Dragon Age is only 2 hours of gameplay, but it sounds like the sports titles may be unlimited play for 5 days.

I wonder who's next to follow this model? I'm sure there are others. Oh hell yes! Make gaming a service like Netflix, charge me minimal to have access to a crazy list of games, plus discounts on those games I want to buy and I'm all yours. This be the hotness!
If Microsoft offered a more expensive Xbox Live sub that had better games on offer I'd definitely sign up for it.

For sports game fans, this could be a good thing then. For me, meh. I'm not going to pay $30 a year or even $5 a month off and on so I can play 2 hour game demos for a couple of games that I was going to buy anyways. Titanfall and Battlefield get their own public betas anyways.

For me, the value of this service depends on the Vault. If they are all 10 month old sports games with a sprinkling of Battlefield thrown in there, I'll pass.

No doubt this will provide value to some people or many. However, for the type of gamer that I am (non sports), I'm going to have to take a wait and see approach before I anoint it and call it 'amazing' @Flynn

As long as EA doesn't start making content and Betas exclusive to this service, then I think this is win overall for the Xbox. There is nothing wrong with choice and optional services that possibly provide additional value.

Edit: @Flynn, please explain how my previous post is funny or how my points are invalid. You seem unable to address any of my concerns or points.

The vault is the bread and butter of this service. If they can't deliver new and relevant games for it, then there's not a big incentive for someone like me to sign up.

Anyone remember how at the beginning of this gen, developers were actually pushing for the no used game policy with Microsoft, until Sony came and threw it under the bus? This is that plan back in the works it seems. If so, this could end up being a big deal with other devs down the road too. Thats my opinion, anyway.

Isn't Sony doing something similar? Just for the past PS library obviously.

£3.99 a month is a damn good deal as long as they don't remove the games after just a couple weeks which would be annoying.

Actually, I've been reading how a business model like this could actually hurt PS+ or whatever the hell its called. As I understand it, a deal like this would actually make PS+ look bad as this EA Access Pub deal, you get to download the games and play them (older games) as much as you want for $5 a month. Whereas with PS+ its basically streaming? Not sure. Perhaps one of the 4 owners could elaborate on how it works. But its all over the net right now. People are talking about it and how Sony may not be in the position to do something like this....Pretty interesting.

EDIT: Comments like this from people who actually own a 4:

"I can get EA access for 30 dollars a year thats 2.50 a month or I can pay 5 dollars for 4 hours per game on the 4. One's a rip off the other is not."

I think you may have confused PS+ with something else. Playstation + gives your full digital download and infinite playtime as long as you keep your sub going. The Streaming service is not console specific and will branch out to TV's and other sony products.

Not sure. It really depends on when they come out with it. It's too early to call EA access a rip-off as well. We have to wait and see what they bring to the table out of the gate and in the future. Either way, both come across as a good deal at face value. I could see myself playing Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare via EA Access if it becomes available.

Could be I meant PSnow...or some s***. I dunno what its called? But you get to play one game for four hours at $5 a month (really old games too) or with EA Access, you get to play a game for as long as you want (not too old) for $5 a month. Its actually a pretty good deal. Wishing like hell I wouldve gotten an invite. I'd be all over this.

Yeah, it is called Playstation Now. I agree the pricing is a bit stupid right now, but it has only just entered BETA phase. PS+ will remain the main features for PS4, but the PS now service is supposed to expand the consumer base for Sony.

According to some or the articles I've been reading, PSnow and/or Plus can't really hold a candle to this EA deal. Plus if the pricing structure is true about either service, Sony just got kicked in the teeth. And, I didnt know Sony talked s*** about EA at E3? Did anyone else?

Anyhow....

According to a lot of the 4 gamers, this makes Sony's offerings look bad (unless they just arent interested in EA offerings), especially if other developers follow suit like Activision, Ubi, etc. The smart money is going towards something like this happening with other developers behind the scene as we speak. If so, there will be a lot of very happy Xbox One gamers, not to mention developers who will finally cut out the middle man and make money from some of their other games in which some gamers wouldn't buy. I have no doubts this is where gaming on consoles is going though. This deal with EA exclusively for the X1 is a big deal. Reminds me of the Dreamcast vs PS2 days.....sorta.

care to post some links to these articles ?

Here's a video about the new deal. To read some of the comments made by some, just search the internet.

Also visit N4g, GAF, IGN etc. its a pretty big topic right now.

I know what the deal is. I wanted to read some of this stuff you are basing your comments on. The PS4 fan reactions. The articles...etc.

Go read them dude! I gave you a list of the sites to visit. Its all over...

The articles are easy, but the PS4 fan reaction is not so easy. All I am seeing is scepticism ( which is fair enough) and the favourite past-time of hating on EA.

To be honest, I think it is a bit early to be dooming and glooming PSnow, and too early to be claiming this the second coming. Both are in BETA stage, both are subject to change.

You know you are wasting your time, right ?
Perhaps.

Is their evil plan working ?

GameStop Shares Tumble After EA Access Announcement

GameStop shares fell today by more than 5 percent following Electronic Arts' announcement of a special streaming service for Xbox One that could have negative implications for the retailer's business. As you can see in the chart below, GameStop shares began to fall immediately after the announcement of EA Access.

EA Access hurts GameStop, at least in theory, because it incentivizes digital spending. However, GameStop will sell EA Access subscription cards in its stores, and the retailer has already proven that the proliferation of digital gaming is not really the thorn in its side that some make it out to be.

The stock market is inherently volatile and dramatic fluctuation in share value is no strange thing for GameStop. After Sony announced its own streaming service, PlayStation Now, back in January, GameStop shares tumbled, but later rebounded.

Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Robert W. Baird, says in a note to investors today that EA Access isn't likely to disrupt GameStop's business in any meaningful way. "While new subscription programs have the potential to disrupt/disintermediate the retail channel, there is little evidence to date to support that similar programs have taken the retailer's market share," he said.

Meanwhile, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says it's too early to tell if EA Access will be troublesome to GameStop. "In the current form, we don't think it's that disruptive to GameStop," Bhatia said.

We have reached out to a GameStop representative for comment and will update this post with anything we hear back.

EA Access has been immediately compared to Netflix, in that you will pay a fee ($5/month or $30/year) for access to a library of games, which you then have unlimited access to. Also included with your membership are discounts on digital content and the ability to play upcoming games five days before anyone else. A beta for EA Access is available now for select Xbox One owners, while a wider rollout is expected to happen soon. The first four games included with EA Access are Battlefield 4, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, andPeggle 2.

I am part of the preview program and have full access.

It's not a surprise to see the SDF look for reasons to say this is crap and throw in some FUD. But it does offer a great deal for casual gamers to get some series they haven't tried in awhile and provide exposure and also hardcore gamers of specific titles to get early access to check out new features and practice techniques.

With this currently an Xbox One exclusive it is a major leg-up for dual owners struggling with which version to buy in the coming months.

I'll report my experience with it as I give it a go, I'd been wanting to play Peggle2, DA, and NHL and happy that I can ditch the disk for my FIFA'14 daily play.

Well you can cancel when ever you want so really I can get BF4 for £4 if I want.

He'd have to say that regardless if it turns out to be good value or not.

Yea right. Value is subjective to the consumer and what the program offers is consumers options. I guess Sony is anti-options while on the other hand have PSNow in the wings to add another monthly charge for gamers which they state in the article they are against. Talk about doublespeak.

Odd they didn't use a name for the "Sony spokesperson" and even odder Sony would make a statement like that burning a bridge with one of their major partners like EA. EA could give Sony a little heck for trying to sabotage their Access program with future exlcusive offerings going to X1.

I think it is good value. The fact that you have such a low monthly cost, means you can pick and choose which months offer best bang for buck. For people who do not mind waiting ( I am not one of these. I want my games now) then $30 a year is a steal.

For some it will be great value but I'm not sure how it will work for me. I'm like you, I can't wait 3 or 6 months for a game to show up in the Vault. If it's something I'm interested in, I'm getting it on launch. That said, if you managed to get two full games out of this a year, you'd get you value out of it.

LOL. Check out Sony. EA Access isn't good value, but PSNow is???? obviously they're just deflecting from the fact that this deal makes PSNow's setup look like even bigger garbage than it is in it's current state. Sony better adopt a similar structure, or prepare to be DOA with PSNow.

EA may be the evil empire, but $5 a month is an awesome price point, and im already likely to buy into it, whereas I will NEVER pay to stream a game on PSNow.

Exactly. All these games companies have games that might not interest enough for a day one purchase, but still look like something you might enjoy. Dead Space for example was one of those for me, but once I picked it up at a huge discount I loved it, and bought the following two games on day one.
