EA Access on Xbox One.

Exactly. All these games companies have games that might not interest enough for a day one purchase, but still look like something you might enjoy. Dead Space for example was one of those for me, but once I picked it up at a huge discount I loved it, and bought the following two games on day one.

You get it (as usual ;) ), This post sums up where EA is tapping into a HUGE opportunity. "Hey gamers, for a very low entry fee you can have a go at some titles you may have never tried before or haven't bought in years...we think you will like them enough to buy the next version coming out."

this is great service for a guy like me who buys fifa (almost) every year.
but it's only for US and Europe for now....damn it EA! bring it to Japan!

I wonder if they'll include EA-published games like Titanfall?

Did anyone manage to read anything about this?

i will do this if i can sign up to the US version (i am in UK). like how i buy games from US store since its cheaper and can get them earlier

well they might when the console actually gets released in Japan.

Amen to that.

I'm guessing that nice you sign up via your console (which is region unlocked) and not your xbox ID (region restricted), you should be able to do that.

So you can still do that? MS has not locked marketplace content to specific regions ? I kind of figured they would have done this fairly quick.

It almost look like MS is slowly grabbing the original policy slowly one by one to show the people who are brain dead that there is other ways to get great content in a service like Netflix.

Nope. You can still do it. They have made absolutely zero mention (even as a rumor from a 'spokesperson') of removing it.

As I see it EA Access' purpose is to...
* fight used-games / renting games market (both for-profit and private markets)
* push digital sales (eliminate middle-man - allowing higher profit margins)
* push games that have long reached it's sales peak (and are a hard sell anyway)
* make people familiar with their product line that would otherwise not bite or people that don't buy a lot of games but a sports game from time to time
* ... so they are inclined to buy their new games with the tempting -10% off
* ensure maximum independence in the shaping of EA's own subscription-program

What EA needed...
* a partner that shares same interests (see above - especially digital future was perfect match with MS from X1's start)
* a partner that isn't cultivating it's own subscription-progam (see Sony's PS+/PS Now) thus not seeing EA's move as direct competition
* a partner willing to make a compromise (with Sony being in a position of dominance right now with PS4 and MS eager to up their game)
* a partner that has the (technical) system and ability to make it work

If you think about it - this being X1 exclusive just makes sense.

Regarding the service...
* It offers very good value as it is no doubt
* If're not into sports games it might not be your thing until the library grows however
* It's not the time for gloom or doom yet - the real test will be over time
* Most important thing to remember is that it's optional and thus can't be a bad thing
* Personal opinion: This is the inevitable future, a clever offer and hopefully works for both MS, EA and us (see: Steam)

This.

As soon as I get the invite, its on!

This is a great thing, I only buy maybe one EA game a year so having all the rest of them for $30 isn't bad. Of course you get them with a delay, but if you weren't planning on spending $60 on it in the first place it's a great deal.

I think details are still stretchy. Hope there is more info.

Seems overall good, I think. Wonder why they do not do the same on PC. Perhaps X1 is the pilot platform, & other platforms will follow, if successful. whether or not it will eventuially be availabe for other platform, X1 must have been a good platform for EA, & MS must have been supportive, for EA to pick X1.

This is certainly positive news. More partnership like this, & X1 will becoming more & more appealing as games/console of choice for gamers.

Seeing as Ubisoft started showing more of their games like AC:Unity and The Division with timed exclusive DLC, what are the chances of them doing the same deal? Boy, I sure wish that would happen.

Do we really want that though ? several paid subscriptions on top of a live subscription ? MS really should have done a collective one. Had all publishers/devs on board and one singular live sub. I know that is not an easy task and obviously it means a tiered live sub, but that would be better.

I joined with the annual plan. Have FIFA and Madden now installed which I will enjoy playing, but never wanted to buy outright as digital pricing was still high and I do not do discs anymore. I already achieved value, and there are a number of games by EA coming this year that I plan to buy, so $6 off each one and the possibility to play a week earlier makes this EA Access service a no brainer.

And for those questioning value, if someone wants to rent a last gen or older game for 4 hours at $3-5 bucks a pop and goes on to question this service, I'd say they're an idiot. This service already pays out from the beginning if you join for the month a game comes out that you want; you pay $5 for the month's access and then save $6 dollars per game bought. That is instantly at least a dollar in your pocket. Assuming a full price game of course.

That might come in time, but right now we are talking one publisher service.

In truth, a model like this needs to happen. Ubi could do the same thing with a game like AC Unity by giving gamers early access before its initial release, not to mention giving gamers the ability to enjoy post released games at a hugely discounted rate (renting) and allowing uninhibited access to those games for, again, priced at a bargain for the price of admission. Plus you get a 10% discount on the actual release of said pre-release. I think this new model is going to take off and change the gaming landscape tremendously. It's smart. Really smart. Microsoft is beginning to show its teeth, Cujo style.

And judging by Sony's response, it doesnt seem like they even know they've been shot yet. They have been.... This will be interesting.

And can we just say right now that Sony's response to this certainly tells other developers/publishers where they stand as far as allowing an access service on their platform? IMHO, EA isnt a company you want to piss off, and you definitely want to leave a trail of bread crumbs in case this happens to be come the future (which it will be) With Sony's response, they seemed to have somewhat, burned a few bridges. Developers all over will want to cut out middle men like Gamestop, Redbox etc, to add increased revenue to games which a lot of gamers wouldnt think about purchasing unless it was for a discounted price. Not to mention having an added revenue stream from their older games from rentals. You'd have to be crazy not to see where this is going...

To be fair to Sony, it does conflict some what with what they want to do with PS NOW. I think their reasoning is lol worthy though.

Yeah, but for $5? and you get unlimited access to games you wouldnt otherwise purchase, and some you would? Thats alot of content, especially as things progress. It's worth the price of admission, at least to me.

It directly conflicts with what they want to do with PS Now. Its exactly why they took the stand that they did. I cant blame them though. They are leading the industry in consoles sold right now. But this could change, and quickly. This gen is just getting started. If more devs and publishers hop on board (which they will) Sony will either have to adapt or sit and bleed out.

But I swear to christ, this kind of reminds me of the time when EA dropped support for the Dreamcast which ultimately became its demise. It's like Microsoft finally launched an arrow in this war and it finally hit a major organ. Or when Rocky threw that solid left punch to the Russian in Rocky 4, and made him bleed. Or that time when Spongebob.....

Can anyone answer this for me please?

If I bought the $5 pass, downloaded Fifa and Madden, then chose to cancel my subscription, do I get to keep the games Ive downloaded on my HDD?

yes, when you decide to re-sub or buy the game individually you will be able to continue where you left off

MS did not fire anything. They threw no punches. Sony refused it.
